The Cleveland Cavaliers are on top of the NBA draft yet again, only this time there is no LeBron James waiting to save them. There may not even be a Kyrie Irving. The first big NBA draft question was answered Tuesday night when the Cavaliers won the lottery for the second time in three years. |

The Cavs will "investigate trade options" with the No. 1 pick, according to ESPN's Brian Windhorst. As Windhorst notes, the Cavs have two first round picks, "interest in improving fast" and a fair deal of cap space, so Cleveland is in a good position after winning the draft lottery. It wouldn't surprise us at all to see the Cavs flirt with dealing the pick, but it's going to take a substantial offer to get GM Chris Grant to bite. |

Mike Brown has invited Hungarian C Greg Somogyi to the Cavaliers' mini-camp. The Lakers signed Somogyi for Summer League and training camp last year, and the 23-year-old impressed Brown enough to earn a look from the Cavs. Size is always coveted and Somogyi is 7'3" and 242 pounds, but his skill-level and athleticism could prevent him from ever getting a foothold in the NBA. He's averaging just 12.8 minutes per game with his current team in Spain. |

Waiters has been named to the NBA All-Rookie first team and forward/center Tyler Zeller to the second team. Waiters, the No. 4 overall selection in last year's draft, averaged 14.7 points, 2.4 rebounds, 3.0 assists this season. Among all rookies, he ranked second in points, fourth in assists and fourth in steals per game. Waiters was joined on the first team by Portland's Damian Lillard, the league's Rookie of the Year, Washington's Bradley Beal, New Orleans' Anthony Davis and Golden State's Harrison Barnes. |

The Cavaliers view small forward Alonzo Gee "as a backup," according to Terry Pluto of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer. Gee signed a three-year contract last summer and he started all 82 games at SF, but he averaged just 10.3 points on 41 percent shooting (31.5 percent from downtown), with 3.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.3 steals, 0.4 blocks and 1.6 turnovers. His Player Effeciency Rating of 10.6 was 48th among qualifying small forwards, and the Cavs' view of him as a backup may shape their strategy on draft day. |

The Cavs may decline C.J. Miles' contract option for next season. Miles is under contract for an affordable $2 million, so the Cavs declining the option would be a clear indication the team does not have any plans for him. It would be a mild if the Cavs let him walk considering how affordable his deal is, but stranger things have happened. |

The Cavs will "investigate trade options" with the No. 1 pick, according to ESPN's Brian Windhorst. As Windhorst notes, the Cavs have two first round picks, "interest in improving fast" and a fair deal of cap space, so Cleveland is in a good position after winning the draft lottery. It wouldn't surprise us at all to see the Cavs flirt with dealing the pick, but it's going to take a substantial offer to get GM Chris Grant to bite.
Mike Brown has invited Hungarian C Greg Somogyi to the Cavaliers' mini-camp. The Lakers signed Somogyi for Summer League and training camp last year, and the 23-year-old impressed Brown enough to earn a look from the Cavs. Size is always coveted and Somogyi is 7'3" and 242 pounds, but his skill-level and athleticism could prevent him from ever getting a foothold in the NBA. He's averaging just 12.8 minutes per game with his current team in Spain.
Waiters has been named to the NBA All-Rookie first team and forward/center Tyler Zeller to the second team. Waiters, the No. 4 overall selection in last year's draft, averaged 14.7 points, 2.4 rebounds, 3.0 assists this season. Among all rookies, he ranked second in points, fourth in assists and fourth in steals per game. Waiters was joined on the first team by Portland's Damian Lillard, the league's Rookie of the Year, Washington's Bradley Beal, New Orleans' Anthony Davis and Golden State's Harrison Barnes.
The Cavaliers view small forward Alonzo Gee "as a backup," according to Terry Pluto of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer. Gee signed a three-year contract last summer and he started all 82 games at SF, but he averaged just 10.3 points on 41 percent shooting (31.5 percent from downtown), with 3.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.3 steals, 0.4 blocks and 1.6 turnovers. His Player Effeciency Rating of 10.6 was 48th among qualifying small forwards, and the Cavs' view of him as a backup may shape their strategy on draft day.
The Cavs may decline C.J. Miles' contract option for next season. Miles is under contract for an affordable $2 million, so the Cavs declining the option would be a clear indication the team does not have any plans for him. It would be a mild if the Cavs let him walk considering how affordable his deal is, but stranger things have happened.
The Cavs are hoping Marreese Speights opts out of his contract, according to the News-Herald. Per the report, the team fears Speights "might not fit their culture." Wherever Speights has gone, he has shown great flashes of productivity, but there have been relentless questions and concerns about his fit and personality with the culture of the team. If Speights does opt out, he should have no issue finding interested suitors despite the checkered past.
The Cavs would like to re-sign Wayne Ellington, according to the News-Herald. Ellington was acquired during the season and proved to be a valuable asset at times, but retaining him would mean extending a qualifying offer of approximately $3 million. It's too early to tell if the team will choose to do so, but if they did, it would make Ellington a restricted free agent.
The Cavs officially re-hired Mike Brown as head coach on Wednesday only three years after firing him. Brown was fired ahead of the LeBron James' free agency amid rumblings that he wasn't LeBron's preferred choice for coach. Cavs owner Dan Gilbert said Wednesday it was a mistake to let Brown go at the time and said he's happy to "rectify" the decision. The two sides seemed destined to reunite as soon as Byron Scott was fired the day after the regular season ended. The best part? Now we can speculate about whether LeBron will want to play for Brown again in 2014. Awesome.
The Cavs reportedly have a "fixation" with making Mike Brown the next head coach, sources told the News-Herald. The team contacted Phil Jackson and may have even reached out to Mike Krzyzewski, but neither is going to Cleveland. A source told the News-Herald that Brown has legitimate interest in the job, and it could just be a matter of time before the two sides are reunited.
Mike Brown and Cavs owner Dan Gilbert had dinner Sunday night and discussed Cleveland's vacant head coach position, sources close to the situation told ESPN.com. ESPN reported the meeting went well, although the Cavs did not offer Brown the job and both sides agreed to revisit the situation later this week. ESPN has also reported the Cavs have reached out to Phil Jackson regarding the vacancy, although we're not convinced Jackson would be interested in coaching a young, rebuilding Cavs team. Brown, along with Pacers assistant Brian Shaw, continues to make the most sense for Cleveland's opening.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have "reached out" to Phil Jackson regarding their head coach opening, sources told ESPN.com. This is the second report linking Jackson to the Cavs, but it still doesn't appear anything is close or even a realistic possibility. It's incredibly difficult to envision Jackson coaching a Cavs team years away from contention despite the presence of Kyrie Irving, and the overwhelming belief is that Jackson is eyeing a Pat Riley type of role rather than another round on the sidelines. For as long as Jackson is unemployed, the speculation will never go away. Jackson is reportedly "considering other coaching options" as the situations in Brooklyn and Sacramento unfold, but we're still not inclined to put very much stock into this, especially with Phil Jackson disputing the initial ESPN report on Twitter previously.
A source told Sam Amico of Fox Sports Ohio that Phil Jackson would "absolutely listen" to an inquiry by the Cavs to coach the team if one is made. We just don't buy it at all. The report is loaded with speculation, and frankly, we couldn't imagine Jackson wanting to coach a team that is multiple years away from realistically contending. Sure, Kyrie Irving is a special player and Dion Waiters has shown some promise, but the rest of the roster is a glorified mess and Jackson has publicly denied he's interested in a return to coaching. A front office role for Jackson down the line is far more likely. Someone like Mike Brown or even Brian Shaw is a far more realistic choice when the Cavs do start ramping up their pursuit of a new head coach.
Mike Brown has quickly emerged as the frontrunner for the Cavs' coaching job, two NBA insiders told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. According to the Plain Dealer, the Cavs are concerned the Pistons and Sixers might pursue Brown and could move quickly to cut off their interest. However, Brown told the paper that he's in no rush to return to coaching, which makes sense considering the Lakers still owe Brown $8 million. We'll have to wait and see how this plays out.
There is "mutual interest" between Mike Brown and the Cavs "for a possible reunion," sources told ESPN. Brown, who is still owed over $8 million from the Lakers, may not be ready to re-enter the coaching ranks. Sources told ESPN there was no ill feelings between Brown or the Cavs following Brown's dismissal in 2010, but GM Chris Grant has denied the team's reported interest so far, but the Cleveland Plain Dealer is reporting the team could move "quickly" to lock him up before other teams express interest.
Dion Waiters doesn't think he'll need surgery on the ailing left knee that caused him to miss 10 games at the end of the season. It was reported a few days ago that Waiters still has a loose fragment of cartilage in the knee, so surgery might still be an option. Waiters looked pretty explosive in the Cavs' final couple games, so perhaps he'll be able to avoid surgery. Even if Waiters does require a procedure, it's likely to be arthroscopic, which is usually minor as far as surgeries go. Waiters should be good to go for training camp next season.
Kyrie Irving plans to spend the offseason working on his defense. "That's kind of the stigma on me right now, he said. "I'll take on the challenge and finish out this season and I know what I have to do this summer." Irving also knows he has to prove his durability after dealing with a myriad of injuries in his first two seasons, and Irving admitted that the third year will be a big season for him. It's also worth noting that "several people inside and outside the organization have noticed a sour change in Irving the past few weeks," but Irving admitted he still needs to mature and is learning how to be a star in the NBA.
Kyrie Irving had 24 points, 10 assists and two 3-pointers on 9-of-20 shooting as the Cavs fell to the Bobcats in the final game of the season. He hit just 2-of-9 3-pointers tonight, but did an admirable job of returning from his shoulder injury and finishing out the season. With the Cavs falling to the lowly Bobcats tonight, Byron Scott's job appears to be in serious danger.
Irving has apologized for missing a postgame ceremony for fans. Irving was stripped of the ball in the closing seconds of Monday's 96-95 loss to Miami. He sprinted to the locker room instead of participating in a jersey giveaway on ``Fan Appreciation Night.'' All the Cavs players gave away their jerseys and sneakers after Cleveland's final home game. On his Twitter account, Irving extended an apology to ``all the Cavs fans for my actions,'' which he called ``truly unfair to you guys.'' He added: ``I'm very appreciative for all of you guys. Your love and passion for the organization and city is what pushes me to be great.'' In the locker room, a team official attributed Irving's absence to a bruised heel. Irving disputed an injury.
C.J. Miles (concussion) could be out for the season. Miles hasn't been cleared to take contact yet and the Cavs have just one game remaining on the schedule on Wednesday, so it's possible his year has concluded.
Tristan Thompson scored 16 points on 7-of-14 shooting with 13 rebounds and two blocks in the Cavs' 96-95 loss to the Heat on Monday. Thompson didn't get much help from his teammates tonight against a depleted Heat squad. Kyrie Irving hit just 6-of-19 shots for 16 points, eight assists, two steals and a block in the loss, and the rest of the box score left a lot to be desired.
Dion Waiters played 27 minutes in Monday's loss, scoring 16 points on 7-of-14 shooting (including a three) with three rebounds, four assists, one steal and two blocks. Waiters looked explosive and is well worth an add unless there are reports he somehow aggravated his knee.
Shaun Livingston (back) played on Monday, scoring four points on 2-of-3 shooting with three rebounds and seven assists in 31 minutes. Livingston is worth a look as a low-end point guard option in deeper formats, and he'll get a small bump in value for the finale if Kyrie Irving or Dion Waiters get a breather.

When the game ended, Irving ran off the floor and skipped a postgame ceremony where Cavs players gave away jerseys and game-worn shoes to fans. A team official said Irving was injured, but that seemed to be news to the 21-year-old All-Star. "That's what I have?'' Irving said sarcastically. "Oh. When was someone going to tell me? I'm hurt again. How long am I going to be out?"

Waiters missed 10 games due to the injury but he's since returned to play in the Cavs' two past games, and it sounds as though he'll play the rest of the way. "It feels good," Waiters said about his knee. "I'm jumping and dunking. If I can do that, then I'm ready to go." Even if he does require minor surgery, he'll be fine for training camp.
Daniel Gibson scored two points with five assists in Sunday's 91-77 loss to Philly. Gibson has been in and out of the lineup all year with an elbow injury and has no fantasy value.
Kyrie Irving got into foul trouble in Sunday's loss to the Sixers, scoring four points with three boards, three assists, one steal and one 3-pointer on 1-of-6 shooting in 19 minutes. He has been a shell of himself and shot 35.4 percent from the field in his previous six games. Kyrie is one of the most talented point guards in the NBA and he would be a slam-dunk pick in the first round of fantasy drafts as long as he stays healthy.
Dion Waiters (personal) returned to the lineup on Sunday, scoring 11 points with four boards, two assists, six turnovers and one 3-pointer on 5-of-15 shooting. Understandably, his offensive game has regressed a bit since returning from his knee injury with a 5-of-12 shooting performance on Wednesday to go with this sub-par outing. Although, Waiters has made some nice strides since the All-Star break, shooting 46 percent compared to 40 percent before that point this season.
Tristan Thompson double-doubled with 12 points and 12 boards, adding two assist and three blocks in 26 minutes on Sunday. He's come along nicely in his sophomore season with 30 double-doubles and 49 percent shooting. Although, he does lead the NBA in blocks allowed, so Thompson has still got some work to do.
Shaun Livingston (back spasms) will not play against the Sixers on Sunday. He had some back issues back in December, but at least it's not to his knee that he blew out back in 2007. Livingston doesn't have much fantasy value while Kyrie Irving is healthy.
Dion Waiters (personal) has returned to the Cavs and will play against the Sixers on Sunday. He missed Friday's game for personal reasons and has been dealing with knee soreness. He's going to play around 25 minutes and he'll be worth starting with that allotment in most fantasy situations. Wayne Ellington takes a hit here.

Gibson still can't extend his elbow fully due to swelling, and it's doubtful how much he can contribute, but he said, "I don't want to finish the season on the IR." He's appeared in a mere 45 games this season while battling various injuries, but he still hopes to re-sign with the Cavs this summer.

Waiters is still recovering from his recent left knee injury, hence the minute-limit, and fantasy owners searching for a burst of value can probably do better. Daniel Gibson (elbow) also hopes to play Sunday, but Luke Walton (ankle) and C.J. Miles (concussion) both remain sidelined.
Kyrie Irving shot the ball a career-high 27 times in Friday's 101-91 loss to the Knicks, hitting 11 of those attempts for 31 points with five rebounds, six assists, three treys and a steal. Irving's shoulder hasn't been on the radar recently and that alone is a win for owners, who can be cautiously optimistic that he sees the rest of the season through. Wayne Ellington added 13 points, three rebounds, five assists, three steals and a triple in the loss tonight.
Tyler Zeller backed up an 18-point outing on Tuesday with zero points and four rebounds in 21 minutes on Friday. Zeller missed all three of his field goal attempts and he never got anything going this year in most formats.
Dion Waiters will not play on Friday due to a personal matter. Waiters made his return on Wednesday from a knee injury, but he won't be active against New York tonight. C.J. Miles is also out, so expect Wayne Ellington to be responsible for most of the perimeter scoring next to Kyrie Irving.

The Cleveland Plan Dealer feels it's "unlikely" the Cavs will extend a $3.3 million qualifying offer to Casspi in the offseason.

Waiters may or may not regain his starting spot for Friday's game against the Knicks, but either way, he's expected to remain on a minutes limit.

Alonzo Gee played 31 minutes on Wednesday but hit just 2-of-6 shots for four points and two rebounds. He had 19 points and three 3-pointers on Sunday, but has totaled just eight points and eight rebounds in his last two games. The minutes are there, but he's just not producing right now.
Tristan Thompson had 19 points, eight rebounds, two steals and a block on 8-of-13 shooting Wednesday. He was overshadowed by Detroit's Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe, but played very well tonight. He had 15 & 16 on Sunday, and should be a strong play over the Cavs' last three games.
Kyrie Irving played on the second night of a back-to-back on Wednesday and had 27 points, nine assists and a 3-pointer on 7-of-15 shooting, and also hit 12-of-13 free throws in a loss to the Pistons. Maybe Byron Scott wasn't kidding when he said he'd play Irving if he was healthy. The Cavs play again on Friday, Monday and Wednesday to finish out the season, so it's possible he could play in all three games.

Dion Waiters (knee) will return to the lineup and will come off the bench Wednesday against the Pistons. The Cavs had been pretty secretive about Waiters' injury until suddenly announcing he was probable earlier Wednesday afternoon. Wayne Ellington will start, but it will certainly be interesting to see how many minutes Waiters gets off the bench. If Waiters is going to get 30 minutes a night, he could be pretty useful for owners in the final week of the season.
Irving is playing on the second night of back-to-back games for the first time since returning from a shoulder injury. The All-Star was injured March 10 and missed eight games. He returned March 31, but sat out the following night as part of the team's recovery protocol. Irving, the team's leader with 22.6 points a game, has played every game since.

Irving had been considered questionable since the Cavs are playing a back-to-back but he seems to have gotten the go-ahead to play on both nights. Irving had 29 points, even assists and two triples Tuesday, but he also committed eight turnovers. Owners will want to check back after warmups to get confirmation on Irving's status.
Dion Waiters (knee) is probable to play Wednesday night against the Pistons. Waiters hasn't played since March 18 but was in uniform and on the bench Tuesday night against the Pacers. There haven't been many updates on his injury so the sudden "probable" diagnosis is a bit surprising. Beat writer Bob Finnan even said it's possible Waiters will jump back into the starting lineup Wednesday night. We should know the answers to both questions after pre-game warmups.
Irving had 29 points but also committed a career worst-tying eight turnovers in Tuesday's 99-94 loss at Indiana. Irving finally broke out of his slump. He had averaged 12.0 points on 23.5 percent shooting over his previous three games.
Alonzo Gee hit just 1-of-4 shots for four points, six rebounds and two steals in 31 minutes on Tuesday. He had 19 points and three treys on Sunday after going for 16 & 10 on Friday. The good news is that he got minutes, but just couldn't get it going against the tough Pacers' D tonight.
Tyler Zeller had 18 points, three rebounds and two blocks on 9-of-17 shooting in Tuesday's loss to the Pacers. Zeller shot the ball well from both inside and outside, and looked great tonight. He's hit or miss every time out, but had it going tonight.
Kyrie Irving had 29 points, seven assists and two 3-pointers on 10-of-20 shooting in Tuesday's tough loss to the Pacers. It wasn't all good, as he committed eight turnovers, and his status for Wednesday's game is completely up in the air, as it's quite possible he'll sit out the second of the back-to-back due to his lingering shoulder injury. But owners who started him tonight have to be pleased with the results. The Cavs blew a 20-point fourth-quarter lead and were outscored 35-10 in the final stanza.
Gibson returned Sunday for the lowly Cavs. Gibson was out with a sore right elbow. Gibson has been a virtual non-factor lately anyways.

The News-Herald confirms that Kyrie Irving (shoulder) could sit out on Wednesday. Irving will play in Tuesday's game against the Pacers. But as the Cavs previously said, they don't intend to let him play on both sides of back-to-backs. We should have more details on their plans shortly.

Kyrie Irving has shot just 12-of-51 over Cleveland's last three games. The Cavs have somehow won two of the three despite their best player not firing on all cylinders. Byron Scott said he's not concerned with Irving's injury, and he dismissed any ideas that Irving is still injured. "He'll be fine," Scott said. Irving should right the ship, but it's very possible his shoulder is still at least a minor issue.
Kyrie Irving opted not to comment on Byron Scott's job status after Sunday's win. When your franchise player doesn't endorse a head coach amid rumors that he's on the hot seat, it's typically not a good sign. Irving was asked if he supported Scott and if he'd be disappointed if Scott were fired, and the sophomore star chose not to address the topic. Scott will enter the offseason with a very uncertain future in Cleveland.
Thompson had 15 points and 16 rebounds Sunday in a 91-85 win over Orlando. Thompson, who had career highs of 29 points and 17 rebounds two nights earlier against Boston, is starting to pick up the pace. He should continue to produce over Cleveland's last six games.

To even imagine that, I'm not going down that road."
Kyrie Irving dished out 10 assists in Sunday's home win vs. the Magic, but he scored just nine points on 3-of-15 shooting, while making his only two free throw attempts. Irving's status this week is clouded by his inability to play in back-to-back sets. Cleveland's next five games are Tuesday/Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday/Monday, so owners should expect a best-case scenario of three games played, with the possibility that he'll also rest Sunday (at Philly) and play Monday (vs. the Heat). Stay tuned for updates.
The Cavaliers won at home behind Alonzo Gee's team-high 19 points, three 3-pointers, seven rebounds and two assists. Gee shot 7-of-12 from the field, a far cry from his career-worst 40.5 percent average this season. We won't rule out a bounce-back year in 2013-14, but owners chastened by his play should view him as a final-round value with upside.
Tristan Thompson stayed hot in a win over the Magic on Sunday, scoring 15 points with 16 rebounds and three blocks. Eight of Thompson's boards came on the offensive glass, consistent with his season averages -- with 3.7 OREB per game, he ranks sixth in the NBA. He's also coming off a 29 & 17 eruption on Friday, and he's a must-start fantasy player until further notice.
C.J. Miles didn't return to Sunday's game after being elbowed in the forehead by Nikola Vucevic. Miles needed six stitches to close the gash, and it sounds like the wound was the cause of his inactivity, rather than a potential concussion. Consider him day-to-day until we have an update.
Irving isn't addressing questions regarding the future of Cleveland coach Byron Scott. The Cavaliers have dropped 12 of 14 games going into Sunday's game against Orlando. The recent slide has led to speculation that Scott, who is 63-160 in three seasons, may not be back for a fourth. Irving, who has spoken about his close relationship with Scott several times during his two seasons with the team, said Sunday he's thinking more about the final seven games of the Cavaliers' season rather than the coaching situation.

Former Cavaliers big man Samardo Samuels has signed a two-month contract with Hapoel Jerusalem in the Israeli Super League. Samuels led the D-League in double-doubles this season, earning him a quick payday abroad. The 24-year-old PF could latch onto an NBA roster next season, but he's not likely to surface with fantasy relevance.
Thompson had career highs with 29 points and 17 rebounds and the Cleveland Cavaliers ended a 10-game losing streak with a 97-91 victory over the Boston Celtics on Friday. Thompson, averaging 11.5 points and 9.3 rebounds, recorded his previous career scoring high against the Nets last March (27 points). His best rebounding effort was 16 against Houston in January.
Kyrie Irving shot 4-of-20 from the field for 11 points to go with five boards, eight assists, two steals, two blocks and two 3-pointers in Friday's 97-91 win in Boston. It's rare for Kyrie to have a horrible shooting night in a win and this year he's shooting 53 percent in wins compared to 43 percent in losses. He didn't appear to be hindered by his shoulder injury and he's a must-start guy in all leagues.
Alonzo Gee scored 16 points in Friday's win over the Celtics to go with 10 boards, one assist, one steal and one block in 33 minutes. He's been bad over his previous 10 games, shooting only 38.0 percent from the field for 9.6 points per game, so he'll have to do it again to be worth a pickup in most leagues. Luke Walton suffering a ankle injury could help Gee and he's at least on the radar.
Tristan Thompson had career highs with 29 points and 17 boards against the Celtics on Friday to go with one assist and one block in 41 minutes. He shot 10-of-17 from the field and made all nine free throws. Tristan was horrible over his last previous, shooting 39.5 percent from the field and 21.4 percent from the line. He's been solid all year and should be viewed as a must-start player.
Luke Walton (ankle) will not return to Friday's game against the Celtics after spraining his ankle in the first quarter. He's scoring just 3.5 points per game for the Cavs this season and has rarely been called upon while the Cavs are healthy, playing just 17.4 minutes per game. He has no fantasy value while Tristan Thompson is having a field day against Boston in Friday's game.
Luke Walton left Friday's game due to an ankle injury and his return is questionable. Walton has surprised every now and again with decent low-end numbers, but never put together anything consistent. Any injury issue here will have practically no impact on fantasy leagues.
Daniel Gibson will not play on Friday due to a sore elbow. Gibson has been a ghost this season and we'll move him to the injury report, but it wouldn't be surprising if he finished the year outside of the rotation.
There are still no updates on Dion Waiters' knee injury. It's hard to see a scenario where Waiters returns this season. "He's still going through his treatment," Byron Scott said. "There's no next step established." Wayne Ellington and C.J. Miles will split SG duties, and if Waiters' season is over, he'll finish with averages of 14.7 points, 2.4 boards, 3.0 assists, a steal and 1.1 triples on 41.1 percent shooting.
Kyrie Irving admitted that he's playing through his shoulder sprain. The Cavs are letting Irving playing through what he calls "basically a still-sprained AC joint," which is a curious decision considering where Cleveland is in the standings this season. Irving's admission that he's still hurt will bring a ton of scrutiny to the Cavs decision-making process, but as long as he doesn't aggravate it, he'll continue to play the remainder of the season.
Kyrie Irving (shoulder) returned on Wednesday with 16 points, six assists, one steal and one block in a demoralizing loss to the Nets. The good news is that Irving is expected to play 32+ minutes vs. the Celtics on Friday, and he should also be fine for Sunday's game vs. the Magic. The bad news is that he's not playing in both of back-to-back games, and Cleveland still has two sets left on April 9-10 and 14-15.
C.J. Miles said that his sore foot has been a bigger issue than his recently sprained ankle. Miles has rolled his ankle a few times, which caused him to sit out on Monday, but he returned for Wednesday's game with 11 points, three rebounds and one steal in 13 minutes off the bench.
The Cavaliers have not updated Dion Waiters' (knee) timetable, and it's unclear if he'll return this season. The clock is ticking with just eight games left on the schedule. After Kyrie Irving's return we're not ruling anything out, but owners shouldn't be stashing Waiters in anticipation of a return.
Marreese Speights had 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting, 10 rebounds and one steal vs. Brooklyn, tying Kyrie Irving for the team lead in scoring. He did his damage in just 22 minutes, and starting center Tyler Zeller added 14 points, but that's where the good news ended for Cleveland. Wayne Ellington shot 2-of-8 for five points, Alonzo Gee was 3-of-8 for nine points, and games like this are the reason Byron Scott's job may be in jeopardy this summer.
Kyrie Irving (shoulder) will play on Wednesday, as expected. Irving had Monday night off as part of a routine "recovery plan," but he'll be back in action on Wednesday against Brooklyn. He dropped 31 points in his first game back after his shoulder injury, so needless to say, Irving should be in all lineups.
C.J. Miles (ankle) is expected to play on Wednesday against the Nets. Miles was a surprise scratch on Monday after spraining his ankle on Sunday, but he should be good to go for Wednesday and will play his usual role off the bench.
Dion Waiters (knee) will not play in Wednesday's game against the Nets. Two weeks ago, the Cavs said Waiters would take a week off and be reevaluated. They haven't updated his status since then. It suggests that he's done for the season and he might need a procedure. With C.J. Miles (ankle) also sidelined, Wayne Ellington is getting all the burn he can handle.
