ST. FRANCIS, Wis. (AP) A trip to the playoffs wasn't enough to save Jim Boylan's job with the Milwaukee Bucks. The Bucks announced Wednesday that Boylan won't be offered a new contract. Though Milwaukee made the playoffs for the first time in three years under Boylan, the decision was expected after the Bucks lost 12 of their last 16 games, finishing with their third straight losing season and eighth in nine years. |

Jennings is slate to be a restricted free agent and has been very clear he doesn't want to play next season on a one-year tender. In fact, Jennings said in March he'll leave as soon as he can if the Bucks decline to offer him a lucrative, long-term deal. The sometimes-controversial point guard has since softened his stance to a more diplomatic "I don't know" on Tuesday when asked if he wants to stay with the Bucks. In the end, we think Jennings probably plays elsewhere next season, but it'll certainly be interesting to see how that happens. |

The Bucks met with Nate McMillan on Tuesday to discuss their head coaching vacancy, according to beat writer Gery Woelfel. The Bucks will reportedly meet with Rockets assistant coach Kelvin Sampson, whom Woelfel has tagged as the Bucks' top choice, on Thursday. It's unclear if they plan to offer Sampson the job at tomorrow's meeting, but it bears noting that Sampson is being connected with almost every opening in the league at this point. The one thing that's clear is the Bucks are targeting experience in their search, a far departure from previous bench boss Jim Boylan.
The Bucks have reportedly asked the Rockets for permission to interview assistant coach Kelvin Sampson, and he's expected to interview on Thursday. Beat writer Gery Woelfel reports that Sampson "has been and still is the Bucks' top choice" to fill the vacant head coaching job, though the Bobcats are also interested in his services. Nate McMillan is rumored to be a candidate for Milwaukee and it's noteworthy that both guys have far more head coaching experience than former coach Jim Boylan.
Stan Van Gundy is unlikely to land with the Bucks as the team's next head coach. This is according to beat writer Gery Woelfel, who cites a "good friend" of Van Gundy's as his source. It would be very surprising to see Van Gundy jump at Milwaukee's opportunity when there are better options available.
Monta Ellis must decide whether to exercise his $11-million player option by June 20. Ellis has been non-committal when asked whether he'll exercise the option. If he chooses to become a free agent, chances are Ellis could land himself a pretty nice long-term deal, but he might have some trouble reaching the $11 million annual value. Stay tuned.

John Henson will play in summer league for the Bucks. Henson expects to return to Milwaukee in late May or early June and "improve from year to year and that's what I'm going to do," he said. Henson showed some strong promise during his rookie season, but it's too early to forecast his fantasy outlook for next year. It is largely dependent on what happens with the rest of the Bucks roster.
Restricted free agent Brandon Jennings said he "can't answer that" when asked if he wants to return to the Bucks. "Do I want to be here? I don't know. I can't really answer that right now. You'll know July 1," he said. Does that sound like a guy who wants to be in Milwaukee? He's clashed with coach Jim Boylan and essentially said he wants out. It remains to be seen how the Bucks will play their hand here. They could wait to see what kind of offer sheet Jennings gets, or they could try to pull off a trade. It's an offseason story to monitor closely.
Mike Dunleavy, an unrestricted free agent, admitted he likes the Bucks but stopped short of guaranteeing his return. Dunleavy was a solid pickup for the Bucks and will have no shortage of interest on the open market as someone capable of doing multiple things off the bench. "I like being here; I grew up here," he said. "I'm willing to come back. Honestly I haven't given a lot of thought to it." The Bucks have a huge offseason ahead, and it wouldn't surprise us to see Dunleavy try and land with a more competitive team.
Gustavo Ayon expects to have his contract option picked up for next season and return to the Bucks. There was some speculation that Ayon could return to playing on the international stage, but apparently that's not set in stone. "Gustavo likes Milwaukee, he just really wants to help the team and as far as we've been indicated he will be with the Bucks next season," Ayon's agent said. Ayon's option is worth just $1.5 million.
Ersan Ilyasova will take a few months off to heal his wrist before playing for Turkey in the world championships. Ilyasova injured his wrist late in the season and admitted before Game 4 that he still wasn't at full strength. As long as it's healed before Ilyasova heads overseas, we can't imagine the Bucks being upset about him playing for his country.
J.J. Redick "fully intends" to test the free agent market. Redick's tenure in Milwaukee did not go as fantasy owners or Bucks fans had hoped, and he averaged 12.3 points and 1.7 triples on 40.3 percent shooting during his time with the team. Although the Bucks will likely make a play to retain him, it wouldn't surprise us to see the two sides part ways after less than half of a season together.
Monta Ellis was non-committal regarding his player option for next season. Ellis has an option for $11 million and could return to the Bucks, but he said he's got a decision to make following this season and doesn't appear to be a in rush to do so. Ellis is going to opt out of his contract and his roller-coaster ways could act as a deterrent for teams looking to bring him on board. Larry Sanders played well in the series and on Sunday he scored seven points with 11 boards, two assists and three blocks in 31 minutes.
Brandon Jennings shot 1-of-7 from the field for three points with one assist, one steal, one 3-pointer and two turnovers in 23 minutes against the Heat on Sunday. That's not exactly the way a player would want to end his contract and this horrible game could cost Jennings. He's shown some flashes here and there, but as a career 39.4 percent shooter, he's not exactly an ideal option as a team's primary scoring option. Jennings could certainly use some help around him next season.
Ersan Ilyasova (wrist) is feeling better, but he admitted he's not at full strength yet. "The first game, my wrist hurt; I had pain," said Ilyasova. "It's much better now, but I have to be careful. When I take a charge and land on it (the right wrist), it gets sore again." If the Heat beat the Bucks on Sunday, Ilyasova will have the entire offseason to rest.
Joel Przybilla believes he can be effective next season. Przybilla played a grand total of 68 minutes this season and it's no guarantee there will even be a market for him in the offseason.
Brandon Jennings softened his stance on the Bucks with restricted free agency around the corner. Jennings, who is notorious for saying the wrong things at the wrong times, picks an awfully interesting time to clarify his previous remarks. "I said some things, you know, that I probably shouldn't have to make [the fans] think that [these might be my last days]," he said. "But in general I wouldn't want to leave without actually accomplishing something here and that's getting out of the first round or something like that." With an early postseason exit looming and free agency about to smack Jennings in the face, it seems like Jennings is simply trying to save face here.
Ekpe Udoh played just four minutes Thursday night due to a lingering Achilles injury. Udoh 14 minutes in Game 2 and 21 minutes in Game 1 before being essentially sidelined for Game 3. The injury forced veteran big man Samuel Dalembert into action, but Dalembert struggled with foul trouble, which limited his minutes. Udoh should be active for Game 4, but it's unclear how much time he'll get. Regardless of who plays, neither should have much of an impact.
J.J. Redick revealed that he has not spoken with coach Jim Boylan during the playoffs. Redick, responding to a question regarding Boylan telling him to remain confident, offered the following quote, "Jim never talked to me," Redick said. "He didn't say anything to me. I haven't spoken to him during the playoffs. I did not get that message." He then added "the rotation is the rotation" when asked about his playing time. This does not sound like a guy eager to re-sign with the Bucks.

Larry Sanders suffered an ankle sprain in the fourth quarter and didn't leave the game on Tuesday, finishing with 14 points, six boards two assists and one block in 28 minutes. He collided with Shane Battier and was limping a little, but Sanders said after the game that he is fine and just a little sore. Sanders had five fouls in both games against Miami, which has been an improved area for him with only 2.7 fouls per game after the All-Star break. He should be ready to go for Thursday.
Ersan Ilyasova scored a team-high 21 points in Tuesday's Game 2 98-86 loss to the Heat, while adding six boards, two assists, one block and two 3-pointers in 29 minutes. He was terrible in Game 1 and scored just two points, but tonight he shot 9-of-14 from the field and 2-of-3 from downtown. The solid 3-point shooting is nothing new for Ersan and he shot 44.4 percent from deep during the regular season.
Mike Dunleavy shot 6-of-9 from the field for 16 points in Tuesday's loss to the Heat with six boards, five assists, two steals and two 3-pointers in 25 minutes. He scored 16 of Milwaukee's 30 bench points with Marquis Daniels chipping in with eight. J.J. Redick played just eight minutes, scored two points and the trade to give up Tobias Harris isn't looking great so far. Miami's first unit is head and shoulders above Milwaukee's and their second unit looks to have an advantage, as well.
Samuel Dalembert is interested in signing with the Miami Heat as an unrestricted free agent in the offseason. His current team, the Milwaukee Bucks, are playing the Heat in the first round of the playoffs, so it's good to see that Dalembert has his mind focused on the present. Regardless, Dalembert has flirted with Miami previously, and he could be an alternative to Chris Andersen depending on what happens with the Birdman.

Even if Larry Sanders (back) is ready for the postseason, Henson should remain a valuable part of the rotation.
Henson had a season-high 28 points and 16 rebounds in Wednesday's 95-89 win at Oklahoma City. Henson, who averaged 15.0 points and 15.0 boards over the last five games, has loads of potential and could be a fantasy monster next season if given enough minutes.
John Henson had another huge line in Wednesday's finale with a career high of 28 points, 15 rebounds and zero blocks on 11-of-18 shooting. Henson has been a rebounding beast while filling in for Larry Sanders (back), and while we doubt Henson's emergence is going to hurt the playing time and value of Sanders too much next year, it's probably not going to help. It would be nice if the Bucks could figure out a way to play the two at the same time, but as of now, it looks like Henson will be coming off the bench again next season, assuming Sanders is healthy.

Without Jennings available, the Bucks could choose to start Monta Ellis at point guard and J.J. Redick at shooting guard, but even if Redick comes off the bench he's guaranteed to see a ton of playing time.

It's a giant blow to owners who have been relying on Sanders, but hopefully those same owners picked up John Henson from the waiver wire as he's expected to get the start on Friday in place of Sanders. Henson went off for 17 points, 25 boards and seven blocks while filling in for Sanders on Wednesday and is a strong play for owners in need of a big man. It's not clear how bad Jennings' Achilles really is, but we'd expect Monta Ellis and J.J. Redick to soak up a ton of minutes without him on Friday.
Jim Boylan and John Henson recently had a heart-to-heart conversation where the coach told the rookie to keep himself ready. "If you're not ready when that moment comes, it's an opportunity lost. He's been working hard and trying to keep himself physically and mentally in the games," Boylan said. "He had an opportunity tonight (Wednesday) and obviously he took advantage of it." If Larry Sanders (back) sits on Friday, Henson is in prime position to have another big night.

Henson had 17 points and season highs 25 rebounds and seven blocks in Wednesday's 113-103 overtime loss at Orlando. With Larry Sanders banged up, Henson could be a force down the stretch. Fantasy owners in need of boards should scoop him up immediately.

The bad Monta Ellis showed up for Wednesday's game against the Magic, shooting 7-of-27 from the field for 21 points with seven rebounds, 11 assists, two steals, one block and one 3-pointer in 47 minutes. The line is nice, but making just seven of 27 shot attempts is classic Monta. He'll continue to be busy as long as Brandon Jennings (Achilles) is out, so he might be able to flirt with first-round value the rest of the way as long as he can knock down shots.
Ilyasova sat out with an illness Wednesday in a loss to Orlando. Ilyasova should be fine for the postseason.
Marquis Daniels shot 6-of-12 from the field for 14 points with seven boards, three steals and two 3-pointers in 37 minutes against the Magic on Wednesday. The Bucks were running out of bodies tonight and they had no choice but to play Daniels extended minutes. He'll need Brandon Jennings and Ersan Ilyasova to miss time more time in order to be on the radar in most formats.
J.J. Redick played 42 minutes against his former team on Wednesday, scoring 16 points with two boards, one assist and one 3-pointer against the Magic. His 42 minutes were a season high and Brandon Jennings missing the second half with a sore Achilles serves as the main reason. Redick was worth owning in most formats even before Jennings going down, so he's now back in the must-own player conversation.
