NCAAF Player News

  • Matt Simms - QB - Lou: Vol QB Matt Simms ready... Mar 9, 3:45PM

Tennessee Volunteer quarterback Matt Simms, a JUCO coming off hand surgery, is healthy and ready to compete for the starting gig. Nick Stephens is expected to win the job, but with a new coaching staff nothing is certain.

  • Greg McElroy - QB - Ala: Greg McElroy's ribs... Mar 9, 12:45PM

Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy says his ribs are fully recovered and should be ready for the start of spring camp on Friday. With teams sure to focus more and more on Mark Ingram and the run game, McElroy will likely be expected to become more of a force in the Tide's offense in 2010.

  • Ryan Mallett - QB - Ark: Mallett getting around... Mar 9, 12:30PM

Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett (foot/toe surgery) is getting around campus on a scooter, but coach Bobby Petrino is not worried about his starting quarterback gaining weight while he's off his feet.  "We haven't had any trouble with [weight] at all," Petrino said. "He's done a really nice job. I think our nutritionist, Kurt Schmidt, has done an excellent job with him because he now knows how to eat properly, what to eat." Mallett had a screw inserted in his foot on Feb. 18 and is expected to be confined to the scooter for a few more weeks. He is not expected to be fully recovered until July.

  • DeMarco Murray - RB - Okla: DeMarco Murray to avoid... Mar 9, 11:00AM

Oklahoma running back DeMarco Murray will not participate in full contact drills this spring.   Coach Bob Stoops is wise to rest his biggest offensive weapon, as Murray has had several nagging injury issues that have limited his effectiveness over the years. With the departure of Chris Brown, a healthy Murray should get more goal line looks in 2010.

  • Zach Frazer - QB - UConn: Zach Frazer #1 heading... Mar 8, 8:30PM

UConn coach Randy Edsall said that quarterback Zach Frazer will be "the number one guy" as the team starts spring ball. Though he's #1, Frazer will have to hold off Cody Endres. Either way the UConn quarterback spot hasn't been a fantasy hotbed of late.

  • Landry Jones - QB - Okla: Stoops expects big... Mar 8, 8:30PM

Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops expects the Sooners to be better at quarterback in 2010, and this is due to the anticipated maturation of expected starter Landry Jones. Jones and the Sooners experienced some definite growing pains in 2009, but a maturing wide receiving group and the hope that the offensive line must be better are two other reasons why fantasy drafters can feel confident nabbing the Sooner signal caller.

  • Nick Foles - QB - Ariz: Nick Foles hopes to... Mar 8, 7:00PM

One of Arizona quarterback  Nick Foles' goals this spring is to improve his footwork.  "That's something I'm focusing on more, getting my feet under me, following through and moving my feet to the target," Foles said. Foles is a big, strong kid with the potential to make NFL scouts take notice if he has a strong year in 2010.
