Boston College senior TE Chris Pantale broke a bone in his foot during Friday's practice, according to head coach Frank Spaziani. Spaziani added that Pantale will miss a "significant" portion of time. The senior started every game the last two seasons for the Eagles and registered 236 receiving yards on 21 catches in 2011. Junior Mike Naples is ticketed to take Pantale's spot in the starting lineup.
After being dismissed from Boston College for multiple violations of team rules, senior RB Montel Harris will transfer to Temple and play for the Owls in 2012. Harris is Boston College's career rushing leader despite playing in only two games last year due to a recurring knee injury. He applied for and received a medical redshirt, which he will use after enrolling at Temple on Sunday. Harris certainly has a large sample size, but his pro prospects look bleak since his body is already showing signs of wearing down after accumulating 786 college carries.
Boston College running back Montel Harris was kicked off the team due to multiple violations of team rules. The most unfortunate part of this development is that Harris has battled through multiple knee injuries the past couple of years. Although he was shut down for the spring after re-injuring his left knee, he was hopeful of returning in the fall for his final season. Harris is the Eagles' all-time leading rusher with 3,735 yards, including a career-high 1,457 in 2009.
The NCAA has denied Boston College receiver Ifeanyi Momah a sixth year of eligibility. A torn left ACL suffered in last season's opener against Northwestern cost Momah the remainder of the season. The school and Momah made their intentions known that a petition for a sixth year of eligibility would be filed. It was another knee injury that cost Momah all of 2009. Ironically, against Northwestern in what proved to be his final game, Momah easily established career bests with 8 passes and 171 yards. He was 39-629-6 in his career at BC.
One week after being cleared to participate in spring drills, Montel Harris re-injured his left knee and the running back is being shut down. Harris originally injured his left knee late in the 2010 season. He returned for the fourth week of 2011, but Harris re-injured the knee in his second game back and was through for the year. The Eagles' all-time leading rusher (3,735 yards) was cleared to participate in spring drills, which began Feb. 18. During the first day of drills, however, Harris aggravated the knee and coach Frank Spaziani declared his RB is through for the spring.
At least one outlet has reported that running back Montrel Harris will participate in spring drills. BC ranked 82nd in rushing yards last season (131 per game) with a lowly 3.6 yards per attempt. Harris, the Eagles' all-time leading rusher with 3,735 yards, missed all but two early-season games with a knee injury. He was granted a fifth-year of eligibility and will be welcomed back with open arms when spring practice starts Saturday.
Boston College receiver Ifeanyi Momah is out for the season after an MRI Monday revealed a torn left ACL. Momah is a fifth-year senior who may have played his last college game. Hopefully, however, he can return to the program next season as Boston College intends to petition the NCAA for a sixth year of eligibility. Eagles coach Frank Spaziani indicated sophomore Johnathan Coleman will help fill the void. Coleman, who caught 14 passes last season, did not have a reception against Northwestern on Saturday.
Running back Josh Haden, formerly of Boston College, and his brother, former Florida safety recruit Jordan Haden have decided to go to school and play a little football at the University of Toledo. These talents should see the field immediately for the Rockets.
Former Boston College running back Josh Haden has decided to join the rest of his family in playing at Florida. Josh's brother, Joe Haden, played cornerback for the Gators. Haden was stuck behind Montel Harris at BC but should make should be a nice addition to the Gators' backfield in the next couple years.
Boston College "wide receiver" Ifeanyi Momah, who goes 6 foot 6, 228 pounds, will see time rushing the passer on 3rd downs this season. “He’s a wide receiver,’’ said head coach Frank Spaziani, “and we will use him in certain defensive situations because he has the ability to pass rush. We will just see how it goes.’’ Seriously? I can just see the concerned look on commissioners' faces nationwide. What do you do when he hits the QB, causes a fumble and scores? Good luck with that decision. Momah makes an intriguing red zone target for the receiver needy Eagles. And while it's early, Momah and Billy Flutie are ahead of Colin Larmond on the depth chart.
New East Carolina coach Ruffin McNeill told JDNews.com that Josh Jordan, Brad Wornick, Rio Johnson and Covair Frost will battle for the starting quarterback job. Former BC Eagle Dominique Davis should join the fray this summer. McNeill's experience watching the Texas Tech offense while a defensive coordinator in Lubbock makes this an interesting battle to monitor. A clear winner could become a clear fantasy factor.
Former Boston College quarterback Dominique Davis will play for East Carolina in 2010. The JUCO transfer signed a letter of intent on Friday. Three-year starter Patrick Pinkney graduates, giving Davis an opportunity to compete for the starting job. Davis will arrive on campus in January, which means he will participate in spring ball.
Former Boston College running back Josh Haden, who decided to transfer last week, said BC just "wasn't right" for him, and he still thinks highly of the school. He doesn't know where he'll matriculate next. Haden struggled with injuries and then saw fellow sophomore running back Montel Harris blow up. He'll likely transfer to an FBS school and make an impact in 2011.
In the near upset of Notre Dame it was Boston College receiver Rich Gunnell getting all the looks from quarterback Dave Shinskie. Gunnell caught 10 passes for 179 yards and a touchdwon. Considering this yardage total nearly matched his current season total (260 yards) you should take a wait-and-see approach with Gunnell.
Boston College has named wide receiver Rich Gunnell one of the team captains for 2009. A wide receiver has not been a captain for the Eagles since Ray Hilvertin in 1990. Given Boston College's unsettled quarterback position, it is hard to project Gunnell putting up more than the 49 catches he did in 2008.
Quarterback Dominique Davis, the expected starter at Boston College, will transfer following an academic suspension from the university. Davis' destination is unknown at this point. The BC quarterback spot is now wide-open, with young Justin Tuggle as the likely starter.
Boston College quarterback Dominique Davis, the projected starter for 2009, threw for 145 yards and one interception in Saturday's spring game. He only managed a 50 percent completion rate, going 20-of-40 in the scrimmage. Davis has had a rough go of it in April, but his competition isn't stepping up to the plate either. Codi Boek was 2-of-10 for 14 yards and Justin Tuggle was 2-of-7 for eight yards in the spring game, illuminating the need to stay away from Boston College quarterbacks for a while.
Quarterback Dominique Davis struggled in Boston College's first scrimmage of the spring on Saturday. Davis completed 9-of-22 passes for 64 yards with three interceptions. Davis is the projected starter for the Eagles, but he could be challenged by Justin Tuggle and Codi Boek.
Boston College kicks off spring practice and all eyes are on the quarterback battle, where new "old-school" offensive coordinator Gary Tranquil is looking for a pro-style quarterback as opposed to the spread-type signal caller used in the old Jagodzinski/Logan offense. Dominique Davis is the most likely starter as he brings starting experience. Redshirt freshman Justin Tuggle played well in practice last year, and Codi Boek can't seem to find a home at any position. No matter who emerges this offense will not be the same version as the last couple of years, making the starter in Chestnut Hill one to avoid.
