|---|
MIAMI (AP) A federal judge has denied a petition by Missouri basketball coach Frank Haith, who wanted to subpoena Bank of America employees to determine if his checking account was illegally accessed by an unauthorized person during the NCAA's investigation of Miami athletics. Haith was Miami's basketball coach from 2004-2011. |

Depth Chart
| No depth chart available |
Miami announced that receiver Tommy Streeter will forgo his senior season and enter the NFL draft. You have to wonder about Streeter's decision. After all, since he hardly saw the field during his first two seasons (6 catches), the receiver only has one year as a regular on his resume. Granted it was a nice season for the 6-6 `Canes, leading the team in receptions (46), yards (811) and touchdown catches (8). At 6-6, 215, Streeter has the size scouts love.
Miami receiver LaRon Byrd is working his way back up the depth chart. Byrd was the Hurricanes' leading receiver a year ago, but he found himself playing mostly on special teams this season - when he did play. The senior, who has caught only 8 passes, turned the tables a bit last week with a nice effort against Florida State and is listed No. 2 behind Tommy Streeter for Saturday's game at USF. Byrd entered this season with 95-career receptions, including 41 in 2010.
Miami receiver Tommy Streeter feels that a 1,000-yard season is in reach. Only three receivers in Miami history have enjoyed 1,000-yard seasons: Eddie Brown (1984), Andre Johnson (2002) and Leonard Hankerson (2010). Streeter is 32-666-8 and is averaging 20.8 yards per catch. The `Canes, who need one win to become bowl eligible, have three regular season games remaining. At his average of 74 yards per game, Streeter would fall shy of 1,000 even with a bowl game.
Miami receiver Tommy Streeter (foot) will start against Duke on Saturday. Streeter limped off the field during Wednesday's practice with a bad foot. Coach Al Golden said at the time that it was nothing serious and Streeter was nowhere to be found on Thursday's injury report. It's a good thing. Streeter may only have 28 receptions in eight games, but it's what takes place when the football lands in his hands. The junior has 604 yards for a 21.6 average and he has scored 7 touchdowns, or one for every four receptions.
Miami quarterback Jacory Harris threw for a season-high 311 yards with 3 touchdowns in a 28-21 loss to Virginia. Harris rebounded nicely from a poor outing last week against Georgia Tech when he was 8-of-23 for 140 yards and one INT. The difference, however, was Miami beat the Yellow Jackets. Not so with Virginia on Thursday night. Still, Harris continues to build on what has become a nice season after a rough fall camp in which he was declared to have received improper benefits as part of a wide-ranging mess involving a former booster. Harris was suspended for one game, but the junior has thrown at least 2 TD passes in six of the seven games he has played.
Healthy Harris focusing on Virginia team that knocked him out last season. Harris is not looking for revenge after he was knocked out of last year's game with a concussion that shortened his season. Rather, on Thursday night he wants to continue to build on what has been a productive 2011 that has resulted in his being the nation's 14th-rated passer. Both teams are 4-3 and have two ACC losses.
Miami quarterback Jacory Harris threw 3 TD passes in a 30-24 win over North Carolina. It was the second straight week Harris threw 3 touchdown passes and he has at least two in all five of his appearances this season. Harris was 20-of-30 for 267 yards and no INTs - his third straight outing without tossing a pick.
Having served his one-game suspension, Jacory Harris will again be the starting quarterback when the Hurricanes next take the field against Ohio State on Sept. 17. Sophomore Stephen Morris was doing a nice job before struggling late in the loss to Maryland. Those struggles evidently were enough for Al Golden to tab Harris as his starter against the Buckeyes. Harris lost his starting job to Morris late last season when he was injured and ineffective. According to published reports, Golden was shielded from the media during Wednesday's ACC conference call.
While eight Miami players must sit out, quarterback Jacory Harris is among five players that will only miss the opener against Maryland on Monday night. Before scandalous news broke in Miami, Harris and sophomore Stephen Morris were locked in a battle for the No. 1 quarterback spot. With Harris having to sit out one game, Morris will be under center against the Terps. The question, of course, is will Harris get his job back? As far as coach Al Golden is concerned, that's a heck of a lot better question than those being asked the previous week or so. Morris had mixed results at the end of last season after taking over for a concussed Harris and now will have a chance to take ownership of the position - and the team.
According to a source, Miami senior quarterback Jacory Harris is among eight Miami players declared ineligible. If Harris is indeed declared ineligible as a result of the Miami scandal, coach Al Golden will turn to sophomore Stephen Morris as his starting quarterback. Harris and Morris were battling for the No. 1 job. Morris started the final four games of 2010, taking over for concussed Harris. Finding a backup to Morris can be a major concern with no other QBs on scholarship.
A dozen current Miami players implicated by former booster Nevin Shapiro, including QB Jacory Harris, practiced Wednesday. There's no telling how this situation in Coral Gables will unravel, but 12 active players receiving improper benefits is no small sample. Not only that, this is not just any Dirty Dozen when it comes to playing experience. Harris has been battling to re-gain his starting spot and Travis Benjamin is the Hurricanes' leading returning receiver. Three defensive ends involved include Oliver Vernon, who registered six sacks a year ago. Linebacker Sean Spence had 59 solo tackles in 2010. Safe to say Al Golden's first roster in Miami could take a major hit before the season commences Labor Day evening at Maryland. But how could these kids play in the opener with this mess hanging over the program?
Miami senior signal caller Jacory Harris is going head-to-head with sophomore Stephen Morris. Harris has gone from being touted as a Heisman contender to a struggling QB nagged by injuries to battling for the starting job. Indeed, it has been quite a ride at The U for the local product. During fall drills, both Harris and the sophomore Morris have looked good while competing for the top spot. Coach Al Golden is pleased with the performance of both players.
Miami wide receiver LaRon Byrd left Saturday's scrimmage with a left knee injury. Coach Al Golden told The Miami Herald that he thinks "he's going to be all right." We'll have to wait and see on this one.
Miami wide receiver Tommy Streeter showed his potential in the Hurricanes' second scrimmage of the spring, finishing with 98 yards and two scores on six catches. Miami opened things up a bit after leaning heavily on the run and screen passes in their first scrimmage. LaRon Byrd (3-31) still hasn't stepped up, and Travis Benjamin (2-61-1) probably isn't capable of being a true #1 receiver. Streeter is a huge (6 foot 6) deep threat that may be ready to emerge as a viable option. Keep an eye on him.
The Miami Herald notes the Hurricane defensive domination in Saturday's scrimmage, however quarterback Jacory Harris played well, completing 18-of-26 for 237 yards with two scores and one interception. It seems strange that a guy who has been in college for ten years like Harris still needs to win the job, but this is the case. He's the favorite to emerge as Al Golden's starter, and good performances like this will certainly help his cause.
Earlier this spring, Miami wide receiver Tommy Streeter vowed to make his presence felt and he has certainly done so with head coach Al Golden. Golden said recently that "Tommy is one of our most improved players right now... So I’m excited about the direction he’s going." Streeter is a physically gifted athlete with good speed in a 6'6 package but to date, has not been able to put it all together on the field. Streeter will face plenty of competition in the new regime namely from LaRon Byrd and Travis Benjamin.
Miami head coachÿAl Golden released a new depth chart as the team returns from spring break, and Jacory Harris is now listed as the starting quarterback. Stephen Morris is now listed as the backup, with previous "#1" Spencer Whipple listed third. ÿIt's hard to put a lot of stock in anything Golden is doing right now, as he seems to be shuffling cards all over the place.ÿ RB StormÿJohnson, rumored to be suspended for the opener in September, is now the #1 back.ÿ Check back inÿAugust - that's when we'll know what Golden really thinks.
During last night's basketball game, Miami wide receiver LaRon Byrd was seen with a walking boot on his left foot. As the PalmÿBeachÿPost points out, this is something to watch with spring practice less than three weeks away. ÿByrd has all the tools, and the 'Canes need someone to step in for the departed Leonard Hankerson. ÿMissing spring practice certainly won't help.
Despite the lopsided loss to Notre Dame in the Sun Bowl, Miami wide receiver Leonard Hankerson looked like the next great Hurricane wide receiver as he hauled in his 13th touchdown of the season. Hankerson finished the game with six catches for 71 yards and a score. Hankerson was a beast this year but will be taking his talents to the next level which will leave the door wide open for LaRon Byrd to breakout.
The Miami Herald reports that Miami Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt and Jon Gruden did meet Wednesday morning but the meeting was just exploratory. "Gruden was cordial, he listened to everything UM had to say but no offer was made," an unnamed UM Board of Trustee member said. "He said he didn't want to go further because he is keeping all his options open, including the NFL." Sounds like Gruden gave Miami the ol' stiff arm and the search continues. Hey Miami, there is an out of work coach sitting down in Coral Gables right now (Mike Leach), you might want to pick up the phone.
Miami quarterback Jacory Harris (concussion) has been medically cleared to play this week against South Floirda. Coach Randy Shannon noted that Harris has been off for three weeks and whether or not he starts or plays will be based on how performs in practice. Whether or not Harris or Stephen Morris gets the start won't be known until closer to game time.
Miami wide receiver Leonard Hankerson had six catches for 79 yards and a touchdown against Virginia Tech. It was Hank's sixth straight game with a score, and he now has 12 on the year, eclipsing Michael Irving's school record for most receiving touchdowns in a single season. The only more sure thing in the ACC than Hank scoring is Montel Harris getting 100 yards.
Miami coach Randy Shannon says they are not rushing quarterback Jacory Harris back, calling his head injury "severe and serious". Shannon did not flat out state that Stephen Morris would start against Virginia Tech, but it seems highly likely. Harris took a vicious (but clean) hit against Virginia, and you can understand why Miami is being very cautious with his recovery.
Miami wide receiver Leonard Hankerson hauled in three catches for 132 yards and a touchdown against Georgia Tech. He hooked up with quarterback Stephen Morris on a 79 yard scoring strike, and now has 11 scores on the year. Keep him in your lineup regardless of who is throwing him the ball, and who the 'Canes are playing.
Miami quarterback Jacory Harris (concussion) threw some passes in practice on Wednesday, but was not in pads. "Just a little bit, that's all he did,'' coach Randy Shannon said of Harris' workload. "He moved around a little and threw some balls to receivers and that was all.'' Harris will not play this week against Georgia Tech as he's still recovering from the hard hit he took against Virginia.
A day after missing practice due to a stomach bug, Miami running back Damien Berry returned to practice Wednesday, and looks poised to start Saturday at Georgia Tech. Lamar Miller also returned to practice, but this has committee written all over it this week. You have to assume Berry's illness has left him a little weak. Meanwhile, quarterback Jacory Harris (concussion) threw on the side, his first football related activites since leaving in the 2nd quarter against Virginia.
Miami quarterback Jacory Harris (concussion) missed practice on Tuesday and is not expected to play this week against Georgia Tech. We fully expect Stephen Morris to get his second straight start.
Miami running back Damien Berry, who is dealing with a leg injury and the flu, did not practice on Tuesday and is doubtful against Georgia Tech on Saturday. Lamar Miller had a nice day last week against Maryland in Berry's absence. Miller had 22 carries for 125 yards and a score. Miller missed practice Tuesday with an undisclosed injury, but is expected to play Saturday.
The Associated Press is reporting that Miami quarterback Jacory Harris (concussion) will not only miss this week's game against Maryland, but next week's against Georgia Tech as well. Harris took one of the most vicious hits I've seen a quarterback take in a while, and it is no surprise that he could miss several weeks.
Miami running back Damien Berry will not play this week against Maryland due to multiple nagging injuries. Lamar Miller and Mike James will likely share the rushing duties against the Terps.
Miami head coach Randy Shannon has (finally) confirmed that quarterback Jacory Harris sustained a concussion during the second quarter of the Hurricanes' loss at Virginia. Shannon's official statement was "If Jacory doesn't play this week -- that's up to the docs -- Stephen [Morris] will be the guy.'' If is probably the wrong word here, and I would highly expect Morris to get the start against Maryland Saturday.
Miami wide receiver Leonard Hankerson led the 'Canes with six grabs for 90 yards and a touchdown at Virginia. He's only failed to score twice this season, and is up to nine touchdowns on the year. It doesn't seem to matter who is playing quarterback here, and Hank is a great bet to score yet again next week versus Maryland.
Miami running back Damien Berry ran for just 42 yards on 11 carries at Virginia Saturday. His lowest output of the season, coming on the heels of four straight 100 yard games. He'll bounce back, and if Jacory Harris sits next week, expect a heavy dosage of Berry.
Miami quarterback Jacory Harris was knocked out in the second quarter against Virginia after being driven into the ground by linebacker John-Kevin Dolce. Harris may have suffered a head and/or chest injury and will not return. Mark Whipple is in at quarterback.
Miami quarterback Jacory Harris had a workman like 217 yards and three touchdowns on his way to 21 of 32 passing. He was intercepted once. The pick was early, so seeing Harris bounce back has to give owners optimism. He's far from a sure bet, but the schedule looks nice with UVA and Maryland on the immediate horizon. Consider him if your regular options are taking a week off.
Miami running back Damien Berry carried 19 times for 109 yards and a touchdown against North Carolina. Berrry has now topped 100 yards in four straight, and has scored in three straight. He is a no brain start against Virginia next week.
Miami wide receiver Leonard Hankerson had six catches for 80 yards and a touchdown against Duke. He also dropped a few catchable passes in what was a typical performance for Hank. He was seen running and stretching his hamstring on the sideline often in the second half, but continued to play and should be fine against UNC next week.
Miami quarterback Jacory Harris went 17 of 34 for 224 yards and a touchdown against Duke. He also ran three times for 19 yards and another score. Not the monster numbers you'd expect against Duke, but Harris was mistake free (at least on the stat sheet) and looked healthy on his 13 yard scoring scamper. It's still tough to recommend him against North Carolina next week, but there are worse options out there.
Miami running back Damien Berry ran 25 times for 111 yards and a touchdown against Duke. He lost another fumble, but that's three straight 100 yard performances, and he's Miami's best offensive option right now. It'll be tough sledding next week against UNC, but Berry got 94 yards against Ohio State, so I'd feel safe starting him until he cools off.
Miami quarterback Jacory Harris played last week's game against Florida State with a pulled groin. "He ran the ball last night with his groin pulled, threw the ball with the groin pulled," coach Randy Shannon said."That's football." Harris should play this week against Duke, but he isn't playing at a level to make him fantasy-worthy at this point.
Miami running back Damien Berry ran 20 times for 101 yards and a touchdown against Florida State. That's back-to-back 100 yard games for Berry. Miami threw the ball a ridiculous 49 times. It's painfully obvious this team needs more balance to anyone not named Mark Whipple, but until he wakes up and comes to this realization, Berry's upside is limited.
Miami quarterback Jacory Harris was just 19 of 47 for 225 yards against Florida State. He was intercepted once, and ran for a touchdown. Harris appeared to injure his groin early, but again toughed things out and stayed in most of the game. He was hurt by some drops, but throwing 47 times is not the recipe for success in Coral Gables. Harris figures to have better numbers next week at Duke.
Miami running back Damien Berry ran 24 times for 101 yards against Clemson. Disappointing that he failed to score, as the 'Canes had lots of success running the ball early, but are still a pass happy offense. That said, Berry has gotten more carries every week, and you have to think the touchdowns will come. He's a top ACC running back each and every week.
Miami wide receiver Leonard Hankerson had seven catches for 147 yards and three touchdowns at Clemson. Hankerson was a beast and quarterback Jacory Harris' favorite target all day. The normally deep 'Canes saw only two other receivers catch one pass each. Expect more balance next week against Florida State, but Hank now has six scores on the year, and should find the endzone again versus the 'Noles.
Miami quarterback Jacory Harris was just 13 of 33 for 205 yards against Clemson. Four of his 13 completions went for scores, while he was intercepted twice. If you read that J12 had four touchdowns, you'd probably assume he had a good game. If you watched things, however, Harris left plenty to be desired. He seems to be regressing a bit, but a solid outing against Florida State should be expected.
Miami quarterback Jacory Harris threw for 248 yards and two scores at Pittsburgh. He was intercepted twice, and now has thrown six in his previous two contests. Harris also took a pretty hard hit midway through the fourth quarter and appeared to injure his left arm/shoulder. He missed one play, and didn't move it a lot after returning. But given that he returned, and Miami has a few extra days to rest before their October 2nd tilt at Clemson, Harris should be fine.
Miami running back Damien Berry wasn't flashy, but worked his way to 87 yards on 21 carries and a touchdown at Pittsburgh. After carrying just six times in the 'Canes' opener, Berry has 37 carries over the next two games, and there shouldn't be any doubt as to who will carry the load for Miami. Lamar Miller, not Mike James, was the second back to see carries last night, and this may become a trend.
Miami running back Graig Cooper is listed as doubtful for Thursday night's game against Pitt with what is described as a "lower extremity" injury. Cooper should not be started this week.
Miami quarterback Jacory Harris laid an egg in the 'Shoe today, finishing with 232 yards on 22-of-39 passing. He had one touchdown, but a game-crippling four interceptions. At least two of the INTs weren't Harris' fault, as wide receiver Travis Benjamin was lost once, and had stone hands a second time. Harris was pretty solid between the 20s for most of the game, but the end line is ugly, and will further add to the perception that J12 can't win the big game. The 'Canes are off next Saturday before heading to Pittsburgh the following Thursday.
Miami running back Damien Berry finished today's loss at Ohio State with 94 yards on 16 carries. He added 13 yards on two catches. What we thought in April appears to be true - Berry is the 'Cane RB to own. Mike James and Lamar Miller carried three times each, and while Miller broke a kick return for a score, this is Berry's backfield until otherwise instructed.
Miami wide receiver Leonard Hankerson finished today's loss to Ohio State with seven catches for 90 yards. Hank didn't score, but continues to make plays all over the field. He did exit the game briefly when he appeared to have the wind knocked out of him, but Hankerson has been solid in both of this year's outings, and has solidified himself as a top option nationally.
Miami running back Graig Cooper hasn't practiced this week and "probably won't play" against Ohio State due to an injured ankle, according to the Palm Beach Post. Funny, because the Miami Herald thinks Coop was hit around his knee. Anyone who watched him play last Thursday could see he wasn't 100%, so the time off can only help. The five headed Cane RB monster is now down to three, but none are good options this week in Columbus.
Miami quarterback Jacory Harris looked awfully healthy, finishing 13-of-16 for 215 yards and three scores in a win over Florida A&M. Harris was locked in on Leonard Hankerson, who hauled in six passes for 114 yards and two touchdowns. Depth be damned, Harris and Hankerson are on the same page, and could form quite the duo this season.
According to head coach Randy Shannon, Miami running back Graig Cooper will be on the field as the 'Canes open up against Florida A&M Thursday evening. "He's going to be in some type of situations - don't know when or what scenario, but he'll play," said Shannon. It's easy to forget Cooper has led the team in rushing in each of his three seasons, but this seems a little quick. Cooper hasn't been through a full contact scrimmage yet, and is only eight months removed from major knee surgery. He isn't dressing to waist a season - which means a deep Miami backfield is officially that much deeper. Stay away.
Miami wide receiver LaRon Byrd, who was believed out for the season opener against Florida A&M, returned to practice today, mixing in work with the top unit. Good news for the 'Canes, bad news for the Rattlers and fantasy owners as injuries are healing, and depth will show it's ugly head again in Coral Gables.
The Sun Sentinel reports that Miami wide receiver LaRon Byrd's MRI on his left knee came back negative, according to an undisclosed source. Byrd is expected to miss the opener against Florida A&M. When he is expected to return is unknown.
Miami's Lee Chambers is making the switch from running back to defensive back, the Miami Herald is reporting. Interesting timing here, and head coach Randy Shannon hadn't been bashful when praising Chambers earlier this summer. As the Herald's Manny Navarro speculates, it's safe to assume this move means Graig Cooper is a lot healthier than anyone could have hoped for this early, and true frosh Storm Johnson is ready to play as well.
Miami wide receiver LaRon Byrd missed Monday morning's practice with an undisclosed leg injury. He is expected to undergo an MRI this afternoon. Let the rumors begin. Head coach Randy Shannon says Byrd is just "nicked" while taking some jabs at reports. Insidetheu.com is reporting Byrd was seen on crutches around campus. We'll let you know the results of the MRI as soon as possible, but for the time being, don't draft any receivers I own in my dynasty league. First it was Jarmon Fortson, now this...and I own Randall Cobb too. Kiss of death!
Miami running back Graig Cooper (ACL) appears just days away from practicing on the field, instead of on the sidelines, reports the Miami Herald. "You expect him to do a little bit of contact drills next week, maybe some inside run stuff, some 7-on-7, not the team stuff because that can take a toll on you," said head coach Randy Shannon. Cooper is looking awfully prophetic since deeming he'd be ready for week 1 during the 'Canes media day. He also said he'd play in all 14 games for UM this season, which would include an ACC Championship. Unfortunately for fantasy owners, Cooper's optimism doesn't extend to the Canes' depth chart, which is about to be even more crowded.
Miami running back Graig Cooper (knee) has given himself a clean bill of health following the team's first practice, saying, "I'm ready for Game 1. Once I get that first hit I'll be all right." Coach Randy Shannon is taking a little more cautious approach, and we likely won't know if Cooper is fully recovered until after his knee takes a little more pounding. Of course anyone who has watched Cooper play and saw his horrific knee injury during last December's bowl game is certainly pulling hard for him.
Miami head coach Randy Shannon recently addressed the question of who will start at running back, Damien Berry or Mike James? "“Does Damien have the lead?” Shannon said. “He should. But then you have Mike James, who is also a physical tough runner [and] maybe a little bit better athlete than Damien.” With Cooper coming off a knee injury and a bevy of talented young backs waiting in the wings, it's best to take a wait and see approach to the Canes' backfield this fall.
Miami head coach Randy Shannon says that running back Graig Cooper (knee) will be worked back slowly. “He’s healthy – doing all the running and jumping – but now we have to put all the weight on him with pads, helmets,” Shannon said. “That’s 40 pounds. Some days he’s going to practice, some days he’s not. We’re going to ease him into it. Like I told him, we’re going to get you ready. Just depends if he can get ready or not. He’s a very tough kid. He’s going to prove a lot of people wrong, that’s his mindset.” Cooper's quick recovery from December knee surgery is nothing short of amazing. But you'll still want to use caution with Cooper on draft day.
The Miami Hurricanes will travel to Toledo to take on the Rockets in 2015. This will be the first game of a home and home. Wonder if Randy Shannon will take his squad to Tony Packo's?
"He's running, he's squatting, he's lifting, he's jumping," Miami coach Randy Sannon said of running back Graig Cooper (knee). "He's full go at everything. Now, will that day come when he gets on the football field and plays? I don't know. That's a process that we're going to take it slow and give him certain drills to build his confidence up and get him where he needs to be at. If he's healthy, he'll play." The Canes have said all along Cooper might play this fall, but I've been skeptical. But it sounds like it could happen. He's still too much of a risk on draft day unless you have a pick to burn in an ACC-only league.
Miami quarterback Jacory Harris says his surgically repaired thumb is causing him no pain, and he'll be ready to go against Florida A&M on Sept. 2. Florida A&M will be a tune up for the big matchup against Ohio State in Week Two. Don't dismiss the Canes ability to pull the upset, especially with a healthy Harris under center.
BREAKING NEWS!!! ESPN's Bruce Feldman tweets "Texted w a UM assistant last night about how the arrival of LeBron and the appeal of having him in town helps Canes recruiting." Someone asked earlier how Lebron's decision would affect recruiting...well there you go. Excuse me while I vomit.
Former Trojan (kinda), and arguably the top ranked overall prospect, OT Seantrel Henderson appears set to enroll at the U this fall. At 6-foot-8, 300-plus pounds, Henderson is the definition of a bookend tackle. Rumors are he has gained a few pounds and while he can't transfer that weight to the new quarterback he is protecting, Jacory Harris, the rest of the Miami offense has to be grinning ear to ear right now. Yeah, he may not start immediately, but this is an OT that can and will impact the fantasy prospects of everyone in Coral Gables. He'll keep JH12 clean when he earns the chance.
According to head coach Randy Shannon, Miami quarterback Jacory Harris (thumb) has been 100 percent for three to four weeks, and described him as a "gym rat." By now, we know the drill with Harris. He needs to cut down on the mistakes, and needs to get stronger. It sounds like he is putting in the time to make those changes, and should be in for a big year. If you buy in to Shannon's newly discovered excitement and optimism, it might be time to move Harris up a little in your rankings.
Miami coach Randy Shannon addressed the question as to whether running back Graig Cooper (knee) will return for 2010. “It depends on how the body reacts,” Shannon said. “Has he been in here working out in the weight room? Yes. Has he been going to rehab? Yes. He’s not walking around with a brace and doing those type of things.” Some have interpreted Shannon's comments to mean that he could return for the 2010 season. However, Cooper will be just eight months removed from partially tearing his ACL in the Champs Bowl. With Damien Berry and Mike James capable of shouldering the load, there is no need to rush him back. Although Cooper, who has NFL aspirations, may view things a tad differently.
Miami coach Randy Shannon said that quarterback Jacory Harris (thumb surgery) will probably start throwing "sometime next month". It is expected that Harris will have a full recovery, but his fantasy value is probably still limited to BCS-only leagues.
Miami running back Graig Cooper has not been cleared to begin running as he continues to work his way back from a torn ACL. The slow progress here coupled with Miami's seemingly unlimited list of capable backs (Mike James, Damien Berry, Storm Johnson) makes it highly unlikely we see Cooper in 2010. The real question is whether or not Cooper will redshirt and suit up in 2011.
Miami quarterbacks Stephen Morris, A.J. Highsmith and Spencer Whipple combined for 452 yards passing and six scores in Miami's spring game. Travis Benjamin led all receivers with 171 yards on eight catches, including a 75-yard touchdown. Starting quarterback Jacory Harris (thumb) did not play. The Canes return a veteran offensive group and should put some serious points in 2010 under offensive coordinator Mark Whipple.
Miami tight end Richard Gordon, amongst others, failed to record a catch in today's closed scrimmage. Miami has had some viable tight end options over the years, but unless incoming JUCO TE Chase Ford can step up over the summer, don't look for much here. There are too many running backs and wide receivers capable of producing to see much hope for any Miami tight ends.
Miami running back Damien Berry led the Canes ground attack in their first scrimmage of the spring, finishing with 48 yards on eight carries. Pretty even share of the load today, as Mike James had six carries for 46 yards, Lamar Miller had nine rushes for 32 yards and two touchdowns and freshman Storm Johnson carried six times for 34 yards. It won't be this balanced in September, but it will probably be balanced enough to limit any one RB's fantasy potential.
Former Hurricane wideout Reggie Wayne thinks current receiver LaRon Byrd "has more skills than ex-Giants star Plaxico Burress." We are assuming Wayne is referring to Byrd's on-field talent. The linked article takes another look at Miami's deep receiving corp. Photos from spring practice show Byrd continues to develop physically, but stop us if you've heard this before; will there be enough balls to go around on South Beach?
Miami wide receiver Aldarius Johnson is making an early impression at spring camp. “He’s working hard and making plays in practice," fellow wide out Leonard Hankerson said of Aldarius. "He’s the old Aldarius right now because he’s hungry for it. He wants to make plays and get back on the field.” Johnson is a big, physical receiver but had a disappointing year in 2009 with only 16 catches. The problem with pinning your fantasy hopes on a Canes receiver is there are many from which to choose. Hankerson, Johnson, LaRon Byrd and Travis Benjamin all have talent and can produce on any given Saturday.
Miami redshirt sophomore receiver Tommy Streeter is hoping 2010 can be a breakout season. At 6-foot-5 and 209-pounds, Streeter certainly passes the eyeball test, and he has remarkable downfield capabilities for that frame. But as the Sun Sentinel points out, the U's wide receiving corps is deep and talented, so there can only be so many balls for each. Streeter has excellent keeper potential, but it could be 2011 before his impact is truly felt.
Miami coach Randy Shannon told The Miami Herald that it's time for tight end Richard Gordon: "He's a big, fast guy, and now he has to do it. He'll get a lot of reps." Anytime we hear of a tight end and "a lot of reps" in the same sentence, we'll take notice.
Miami coach Randy Shannon spoke to The Miami Herald about running back Damien Berry, and he had some interesting things to say, among them: "He's improved every year; now he's got to take that next step of being 'the guy.'" There are a few on staff here that are expecting big things out of Berry, thus we'll be keeping a close eye on him this spring.
Miami coach Randy Shannon said that sophomore A.J. Highsmith has a slight edge over young Stephen Morris as each vies for the #2 quarterback job behind Jacory Harris. Harris (hand) will be relegated to light throwing during spring ball, so the other two quarterbacks will see a nice opportunity to make a good impression.
Miami running back Graig Cooper (torn ACL) could return for the season opener against Florida A&M on Sept. 4. You can bet Cooper, who was said to have been heavily considering leaving early for the NFL Draft, will try to return this season instead of sitting out a year and redshirting.
Miami quarterback Jacory Harris is expected to have thumb surgery on his right (throwing) hand. Harris will likely miss most of spring practice, but should be ready for fall camp.
The Associated Press is reporting that Miami running back Graig Cooper's knee injury sustained in last night's Champs Sports Bowl is "very bad" and he could miss the 2010 season. This is horrific news for Cooper who was highly considering entering the 2010 NFL Draft. Obviously those plans are out the window.
After last night's bowl loss to Wisconsin, Miami wide receiver Leonard Hankerson announced he would return to the Hurricanes for his senior season. Somewhat surprising given Hankerson's recent quotes, and the fact that he has two children. He'll lead a deep and talented group of Hurricane receivers. Unfortunately, that depth means limited fantasy stardom.
Miami wide receiver Leonard Hankerson said he is "80 percent" sure on whether or not he will return for his senior season or enter the NFL Draft, though he's going to keep us all in suspense until the days following this week's bowl game. I'm 80 percent sure that the wide receiver will be declaring for the draft. Hankerson received some brilliant advice from former Miami Dolphin Mark Duper, who told the his protege, "Whatever you do, just make sure you make the right choice." And advice like this is priceless.
"I don't want to talk about the NFL right now," Miami running back Graig Cooper said. "I'm not worried about that right now. I'm worried about this bowl game." This quote is a standard response for those highly considering entering the NFL draft and is usually followed by an announcement that they are leaving early shortly after their bowl game.
Miami quarterback Jacory Harris is still bothered by a thumb injury on his right (throwing) hand. Harris has been playing through the pain late in the season, so we don't expect anything different against Wisconsin in the Champs Bowl.
Susan Miller Degnan of the Miami Herald lists Miami Hurricane running back Graig Cooper, offensive lineman Orlando Franklin, wide receiver Leonard Hankerson and linebacker Colin McCarthy as potential early entrants to the 2010 NFL Draft. Cooper was one of our potential candidates as well. You can find all of the early entrants that have declared on our main page.
Miami quarterback Jacory Harris left Saturday's win over Duke with his arm in a sling, and today coach Randy Shannon this was simply for comedic effect, having said earlier in the week that his quarterback "was fine." Harris has had an injured thumb of late, and at last check an injured thumb requires no arm sling.
Miami quarterback Jacory Harris came into this week's game against Duke with an ailing and heavily-taped right thumb, and he added to his injury woes by being placed in a post-game sling. Hurting or not, Harris managed to throw for 348 yards and two touchdowns to end Duke's bowl game hopes. There is no word yet on what brought about the post-game sling for Harris, but it sounds like it could add to an already tough match up against South Florida next week if he is a go.
Miami quarterback Jacory Harris says he is playing Saturday against Duke despite a banged up left ring finger. We'll take Harris at his word. Odds are, however, if you've made it this far, you have less risky options to play this week.
The Miami Herald, citing a source close to the Miami Hurricane football program, reports that Jacory Harris (finger) is wearing a cast on his throwing hand. Harris is still expected to play against Duke on Saturday, though this finger injury should cause some concern for fantasy owners.
Despite a four interception performance against North Carolina on Saturday, Miami coach Randy Shannon says he and the team continue to "have confidence in" their sophomore quarterback Jacory Harris. It's easy to lose sight of the youth of many quarterbacks leading the nation's top teams; Harris will only get better with more experience.
Miami quarterback Jacory Harris threw a career-high four interceptions that contributed greatly to the Hurricanes upset loss to North Carolina. Harris finished the game with 319 yards passing, a touchdown, and four those four picks. Harris now has a 19:16 touchdown to interception ratio and has been sacked 25 times.
Miami coach Randy Shannon told The Miami Herald that running back Javarris James "should be ready to go fully this week" against Wake Forest. James only saw one carry last week, and Shannon's comments notwithstanding, he shouldn't receive start consideration this week.
Miami running back Graig Cooper had a career day in the Hurricanes 52-17 win over Virginia by running for 152 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. Lee Chambers and Damien Berry each saw a significant amount of carries, but its pretty clear that when healthy Cooper is the go-to-guy for the Canes.
Miami running back Javarris James (lower extremity) is listed as probable for Saturday's game with Virginia. After missing last week's game we'd have to deem James a risky start this weekend.
With 1:08 left on the clock, Miami quarterback Jacory Harris connected with receiver Travis Benjamin for his third touchdown of the game and the eventual winner to save the Hurricanes from their second consecutive loss. Harris finished the game with 330 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception. Harris was sacked five times this week which makes 17 in the past four games. Not only could this present possible injury issues for Jacory, but it's certainly not the kind of stats fantasy owners want to see.
Miami running back Javarris James (lower body injury) has been ruled for Saturday's game with Wake Forest. With James out look for Damien Berry to continue to play a role.
Miami's junior wide receiver Leonard Hankerson caught five of the 17 passes quarterback Jacory Harris completed against the Clemson defense. With his five receptions, Hankerson managed 87 yards and a touchdown. Hankerson has now tallied nine receptions in the past two games, and has scored a touchdown in the last three straight; both of which are more than any other Hurricane during that time span.
