In the final game of his college career, Brandon Weeden threw for 399 yards, 3 touchdowns and he added one score rushing in leading Oklahoma State to 41-38 overtime victory against Stanford in the Fiesta Bowl. Six times this season Weeden topped 390 yards passing and he finished with 4,727 yards, a total that will be second nationally to Case Keenum upon the completion of the bowl season. Weeden threw 37 touchdown passes, including at least three in nine of the Cowboys' 13 contests. Weeden also did something in his final game that he had not done before in his college career: run for a touchdown.
Justin Blackmon had 186 yards receiving and 3 TDs in a 41-38 overtime win against Stanford in the Fiesta Bowl. Blackmon's 3 TDs tied a career high he established against Tulsa in 2010. His 8 receptions gave him 121 for the season to go with 1,522 yards and 18 TDs. The last two seasons, his totals are 232-3,304-38.
Oklahoma State receiver Justin Blackmon won his second straight Biletnikoff Award, the honor given to the best wideout in the country. Blackmon is only the second two-time winner, following in the footsteps of fellow Big 12 receiver Michael Crabtree. Blackmon caught 113 balls for 1,336 yards and 15 touchdowns this season in the high-powered Cowboy offense. Blackmon had a streak of ten-straight games in which he scored, and went up over the 10+ catch mark six times during the season. Blackmon will allow someone else to win the award next season, as the junior has announced he plans to enter the NFL Draft next season.
Oklahoma State receiver Justin Blackmon says he's "pretty sure" that the Cowboys' Fiesta Bowl game against Stanford will be his last before heading to the NFL. Blackmon has not applied for the draft, but it's clear he is leaning in that direction. A finalist for the Biletnikoff Award given to the nation's most outstanding receiver, Blackmon is second nationally with 113 receptions and tied for third with 15 TD catches. He has 1,336 yards, good for seventh.
Brandon Weeden threw for a season-low 217 yards and, for the first time as Oklahoma State's starting quarterback, he failed to throw a touchdown pass. All the above mattered none as the Pokes romped to a 44-10 win over Oklahoma in Stillwater. Weeden, it should be noted, did not throw an interception after throwing three in a loss to Iowa State. Weeden had thrown at least one TD passes in all 25 games as the OSU starting QB. His 217 yards were also a low as a starter. He twice threw for 218 yards: his first-career start last year against Washington State and earlier this season against Texas.
Wide receiver Justin Blackmon will be honored with the seniors before Saturday's game with Oklahoma. This basically confirms the expected in that this will be Blackmon's final game in a Cowboy uniform. The junior will enter next year's NFL draft, a move head coach Mike Gundy encourages. "When we have a player that's in his situation, we felt like it was the right thing to do," said Gundy. "...I would hate for him to leave here without being able to walk across that field with his family one last time." Blackmon looks to obtain his second consecutive Biletnikoff award this season, the honor given to the country's best wideout. Considered the top receiver prospect in the draft, Blackmon has caught 103 passes for 1,241 yards and 15 touchdowns for the Cowboys this season.
Brandon Weeden threw for 476 yards and 3 TDs, but he threw 3 INTs in a 37-31 2OT loss at Iowa State. Andrew Luck (Stanford), Trent Richardson (Alabama), Kellen Moore (Boise State) and now Brandon Weeden are top Heisman candidates that have gone down in defeat the past couple weeks. It was not the most picturesque of performances for a top Heisman candidate to begin with, but a third INT in overtime hurts. The other numbers look great: 42-of-58 for 476 yards and 3 TDs. But the 3 picks and a loss against an ISU team that just became bowl eligible doesn't look good. Luck and the Cardinal lost to Oregon, Richardson and the Tide to LSU and Moore and the Broncos to TCU. All three can be excused for losing to those opponents. The Pokes, No. 2 in the BCS coming in, are still in the national title picture like the other one-loss teams now are. That is what will make these last couple weeks very entertaining....Weeden went over 4,000 yards passing on the season and he now has 34 TDs. He has thrown for nearly 1,400 the past three weeks.
Brandon Weeden threw for 423 yards and 5 touchdowns in Oklahoma State's 66-6 win at Texas Tech. Weeden completed 31-of-37 in what was his third 400-yard game and second 5-TD game of the season. Weeden has thrown at least 3 TD passes seven times and has 31 on the season.
Oklahoma State receiver Justin Blackmon caught 13 passes for 205 yards and a pair of TDs in a 52-45 win over Kansas State. It's the fourth time this season Blackmon caught at least 10 passes and he has 87 receptions on the season. He caught at least one touchdown pass in eight straight games and has 12 this year.
Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden threw for a career-high 501 yards in a 52-45 win over Kansas State. Weeden's previous high was 438 yards at Texas A&M on Sept. 24. The senior, who also threw 4 TD passes, has 3,212 yards on the season.
Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy feels that receiver Justin Blackmon will be able to play Saturday against Baylor. Blackmon, who is 61-662-8 and sixth nationally in receptions per game, was removed from Saturday's game against Missouri with concussion-like symptoms. He did not practice Sunday night, but coach Mike Gundy feels the star receiver will be ready for Baylor this week.
Oklahoma State receiver Justin Blackmon left the Missouri game with reported concussion-like symptoms. Blackmon left the game after going 8-54, including a first-quarter TD. Receiver Hubert Anyiam also left the game with an injury.
Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden throws for 338 yards and 3 TDs in a 45-24 win over Missouri. Weeden, who was 33-of-49 and one INT, threw all three touchdown passes in the first half and gave the Pokes a 21-3 lead. He has 19 TD passes on the season.
Oklahoma State's Brandon Weeden threw for a season-low 218 yards, but the Cowboys topped Texas, 38-24. There were season lows just about everywhere in Weeden's stat line. They included his passing yards (218), completions (23), completion percentage (56.1) and touchdown passes (1). Weeden also averaged less than 10 yards per completion. Did we say he did not throw an interception in a 14-point victory in Austin? Weeden has 2,098 yards passing 16 TDs on the season.
Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden threw 5 first-half touchdown passes in a 70-28 blowout of Kansas. Weeden's day lasted only one half. With a 56-7 lead after 30 minutes, there was no need for coach Mike Gundy to play his QB any longer. Weeden, who has completed 75.7 percent of his passes this season, was 24-of-28 for 288 yards. In two games against the Jayhawks, he is 55-of-71 for 677 yards and 8/0.
Oklahoma State QB Brandon Weeden completed 47-of-60 (78.3%) attempts for 437 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday's win over Texas A&M. It was a masterful game for Weeden, who spread the ball to 12 different receivers including double-digit completions to Blackmon, Josh Cooper, and Hubert Anyiam. Down 20-3 at half, Weeden lead Oklahoma State to 27 consecutive points in the third and fourth quarters in route to a 30-29 come-from-behind victory. The Aggies turned the ball over three times during the third quarter where the Cowboys outscored them 21-0.
Oklahoma State receiver Justin Blackmon's streak of 14 straight 100-yard games ended in a win over Tulsa. It's not like Blackmon did not handle the ball against Tulsa. In a game that did not start until after midnight CT due to weather, Blackmon was 7-57-1. His streak comprised of all 12 games he played last year and the first two contests of this season. Blackmon's 27 receptions on the season are fifth nationally.
New Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Todd Monken is excited about getting to work...and learning all about the offense of former offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen. Very rare that a new OC arrives to learn a new offense rather than install his own scheme, however we can clearly file this under "if it ain't broke"ÿcategory. There are no certainties, however owners of Brandon Weeden and Justin Blackmon must be pleased that Moken isn't going all Tommy Tuberville on the OSU offense.
According to ESPN 's Joe Schad, Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden and wide receiver Justin Blackmon are returning to school. This is huge boost for the Cowboys as they lose their offensive coordinator.ÿ Expect this battery to continue to terrorize Big 12 defenses.
Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden said the departure of offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen will not have an impact on whether or not he returns for his senior season. Weeden is 27 years old and his whiz OC just left. If he returns for his senior season then I will have clearly underestimated the nightlife of Stillwater.
Dana Holgorsen will remain as Oklahoma State's offensive coordinator for the Alamo Bowl. This is obviously good news for the Pokes' offense after having been dealt a blow with Holgorsen moving on to West Virginia next season.
According to the Charleston Gazette, Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen will supplant Bill Stewart as the head coach at West Virginia in 2012. This is a dynamite hire for the Mountaineers and Holgorsen should have them high-flying in their first year.
Oklahoma State whiz offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen denied rumors he was in Pittsburgh talking about the vacant Panther coaching job. He told The Oklahoman that he "was in Houston" all day. Holgorsen's name will come up often until he decides he's found the right school to make his jump to the head coaching ranks.
Oklahoma State's record-setting wide receiver, Justin Blackmon, and starting quarterback Brandon Weeden are unsure about their futures, and each plans to consider the NFL Draft once the season concludes. It would seem that Weeden (even at 27 years old) could use another year of seasoning. Our guess is that Blackmon will strike while the iron is hot. Either way we'll have to wait and see.
Oklahoma State running back Kendall Hunter was relatively quiet in Saturday's loss to Oklahoma. Hunter finished with just 55 yards rushing on 13 attempts. The Pokes were playing from behind most of the game which limited how much they could run the ball, but you would still expect Hunter to see more carries in such a pivotal game.
Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden threw for 257 yards and two scores in the loss to Oklahoma Saturday night. Unfortunately Weeden threw more picks (three) than touchdowns. Weeden has had a solid season under offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen and should be one of the top quarterbacks in 2011.
Oklahoma State wide receiver Josh Cooper caught seven balls for 94 yards and a score against Kansas. Cooper now has four scores on the season as he's been one of the Cowboy targets who has helped to take some heat off of Justin Blackmon.
Oklahoma State tailback Kendall Hunter ran it 22 times for 105 yards, however he was held scoreless for only the third time this season. Hunter remains a top national back, however the lost carries (and scores) to young backs Jeremy Smith and Joseph Randle have become a bit annoying
Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden completed 31-of-43 passes for 389 yards and three scores in the Cowboy win over Kansas. Weeden has more than met even the most optimistic expectations that were placed back in August.
Oklahoma State running back Kendall Hunter carried the ball 23 times for 116 yards and two scores as the Cowboys went into Austin and smoked the Longhorns. Hunter simply gets it done every week.
Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden only threw one touchdown, however he also threw for 409 yards in the win over Texas. This marks Weeden's second-straight 400+ game, and his third on the season.
Oklahoma State wide receiver Bo Bowling caught nine balls for 101 yards in the win over Baylor. This performance comes on the heels of eight catches for 92 yards last week against Kansas State. The #2 wide receiver in Stillwater is worth fantasy consideration, however the dropoff between Justin Blackmon and the #2 guy is considerable.
Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden completed 34-of-42 passes for 435 yards and three scores as the Pokes improved to 8-1 with a big win over Baylor. We had high expectations for Weeden coming in, and he's more than just exceeded them. He now has 26 touchdown passes on the season and he improves with each passing week.
Oklahoma State running back Kendall Hunter could only muster 66 rush yards against Baylor, however he was able to make fantasy owners happy once again as he scored two more touchdowns. Give Hunter 14 touchdowns on the campaign. He's a weekly no-brainer must-start.
Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden took a while to get going, however when all was said and done he finished with 298 yards passing and two scores against Kansas State. The Pokes were sluggish and took dumb penalties for much of the game, but Weeden remained in control and again showed why he's one of the top signal callers in the BCS.
Oklahoma State running back Kendall Hunter carried it 28 times for 143 tough yards in the win over Kansas State. However, Hunter was held scoreless for only the second time this season. Hunter remains one of the nation's top fantasy backs, and he's a great start against Baylor next week.
Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden threw for 283 yards and two scores in the loss to Nebraska. The Huskers held him to 18-of-35 through the air. Weeden only has three touchdowns over the last two weeks, though the Red Raider and Cornhusker defenses have played large roles in his diminished production during that span.
Oklahoma State running back Kendall Hunter gashed the vaunted Cornhusker defense for 201 yards and two scores on Saturday afternoon. Hunter now has 12 scores on the season; couple this with over 1,000 rushing yards to date and it's clear that Hunter is among the nation's most productive, if overlooked, backs of 2010.
The Oklahoman reports that Oklahoma State wide receiver Josh Cooper (head) should be good to go this week against Nebraska. Cooper is emerging as the #2 target behind Justin Blackmon, and his return would be a very good thing for the Cowboys.
Oklahoma State running back Kendall Hunter carried the ball 25 times for 130 yards and a score in Saturday's win over Texas Tech. Like in-state rival DeMarco Murray, Hunter is proving he's durable enough to handle a workmanlike number of carries.
Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden threw for 356 yards in the win over Texas Tech, however this was only good enough for one score. Weeden remains one of the nation's top fantasy quarterbacks.
Oklahoma State receiver Josh Cooper suffered what appeared to be a concussion last week against Louisiana-Lafayette. His status for this week's game is unknown. With the emergence of Justin Blackmon, Cooper has not been much of a factor this season.
Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen tells Tulsa World that star tailback Kendall Hunter can handle the increased workload, calling him a "powerful little dude." Holgorsen also states that increased attention paid towards wide receiver Justin Blackmon will lead to more big runs for his back. Hunter appears capable of getting it done even when he doesn't bust a couple of huge runs in a ballgame. He remains a top BCS back.
Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden threw for 351 yards and five scores as the Cowboys rolled over Louisiana-Lafayette thanks to a huge second half. Sure Weeden also threw two picks, however we'll focus on the good: he now has 18 scores on the season and may be the nation's top fantasy quarterback.
Oklahoma State running back Kendall Hunter posted 26 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries in the win over Louisiana-Lafayette. The big Cowboy plays were reserved for the passing attack, so this workmanlike Hunter effort will have to suffice for demanding fantasy owners.
Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden is ready to take his starting quarterback act on the road for the first time, and he tells The Oklahoman that he and his mates are ready with the silent communication. Someone should tell Mr. Weeden that he's at Louisiana-Lafayette this week, not Norman. Look for huge numbers on Friday night.
Oklahoma State slot receiver Bo Bowling caught four passes for 46 yards against Texas A&M. Bowling has overcome some off-field issues and is seeing his role increase. He's yet to find the end zone, but this seems a matter of time.
Oklahoma State running back Kendall Hunter continues to stir the Cowboy drink, gaining 101 yards on the ground and scoring twice against Texas A&M on Thursday. As expected, Hunter has dominated the early portion of the season, and he now sits at 574 yards and eight scores. The defenses will improve as the season rolls on, however Hunter appears destined for the monster season we had predicted.
They weren't the mind-blowing numbers we've seen early this season, however Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden was steady against Texas A&M. He threw for 284 yards and two scores, but he was also harassed into tossing two to the Aggies. Weeden remains a top BCS quarterback.
Oklahoma State running back Kendall Hunter had 10 carries for 59 yards and four receptions for 30 yards in a win over Tulsa. Hunter took a back seat to Brandon Weeden tonight, as Weeden shredded the Tulsa defense for 400-plus yards. Hunter will surely play a larger role when the Pokes take on Texas A&M on September 30. Backup Joseph Randle had 69 rushing yards and 54 receiving yards in relief of Hunter.
Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden went 25-of-34 for 414 yards and six TDs in a win over Tulsa. Keep in mind that Weeden barely played into the second half in this one, so it could have been even more. He's feasted on weaker competition so far and will now have a week and a half off before taking on Texas A&M.
Oklahoma State wide receiver Josh Cooper had four receptions for 83 yards and a score against Tulsa. Cooper has emerged over the past couple weeks as another reliable receiver for Brandon Weeden. Hubert Anyiam is getting back in the mix as well, which could limit Cooper's targets in Big 12 play.
"It's just a little sore, that's all, just a little sore," Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden said said about his thumb. "It's just a sprain, just jammed it." Weeden jammed the thumb against Washington State in Week One. He completed 29-of-39 passes for 348 against Troy last week. so it didn't seem to affect his passing. Fantasy owners that are in leagues that assess negative points for fumbles will note that he did cough up the pill twice against the Trojans, however.
Oklahoma State running back Kendall Hunter had 24 carries for 157 rushing yards and two more touchdowns as the Pokes held on to beat Troy. He also caught five passes for 15 yards. Even with Troy geared toward stopping him, Hunter ripped off plenty of big runs. He's a must-start in all formats.
Oklahoma State wide receiver Josh Cooper caught eight passes for 114 yards and returned a punt for a TD in a win over Troy. Cooper (and anyone not named Justin Blackmon) started slowly in week one, but he proved to be a solid inside receiving threat for Brandon Weeden in this one. He may not score a lot of TDs, but he could rack up catches if he can build on this performance.
Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden went 29-of-39 for 348 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions in a win over Troy. The game turned into a shootout, and Weeden continues to play well. Aside from the picks, there isn't much to complain about, as he's completing a high percentage of his throws and has five TDs on the year. Keep him in your lineup against Tulsa next week.
The Oklahoman reports that Troy defensive coordinator Jeremy Rowell has no specific plans to focus on Oklahoma State running back Kendall Hunter, saying "we're not going to do anything to where we're putting an extra guy on him or whatever. We're going to do what we do." Troy was 104th in total defense a season ago. Doing "what they do" will likely lead to another huge game from Hunter. Start that man!
Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden hit his throwing hand on a helmet on Saturday night, however coach Mike Gundy tells Tulsa World that his starting quarterback is ok and will go against Troy. Coming off a very nice outing in the blowout of Washington State, Weeden appears to be a prime starting option this week.
Though he is quick to point out that there will never be another Barry Sanders, Berry Tramel of The Oklahoman says Kendall Hunter's performance on Saturday night (21-257) leaves no doubt that he's the best in Stillwater since the Heisman Trophy winner was running wild over 20 years ago. Granted Washington State is very, very bad. However Hunter was a sight to behold on Saturday night. And he's poised for a huge season.
Oklahoma State running back Kendall Hunter blew up for 257 rushing yards and four touchdowns on just 21 carries as the Pokes blew out Washington State. Hunter had over 200 yards by halftime and was stopped at the one on another long run. Part of this performance can be attributed to the opponent, but it's clear the Cowboys intend to get Hunter involved early and often this year. His play was reminiscent of a couple years ago when he was a fantasy stud.
Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden completed 22 of 30 passes for 218 yards and three TDs in a win over Washington State. Weeden had a front row seat for the Kendall Hunter show, but he looked sharp as well. All three TDs went to Justin Blackmon, but he also got other receivers involved and didn't make mistakes. Weeden is a strong start again versus Troy next week.
Oklahoma State running back Kendall Hunter is listed as a starting kick returner on the team's depth chart. As Tulsa World's Bill Haisten reports, this speaks to the coaching staff's faith in backup running backs Jeremy Smith and Joseph Randle. We hope it also speaks to their faith in Hunter's ability to stay healthy.
Oklahoma State running back Kendall Hunter missed Saturday's scrimmage to deal with a family issue, and offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen said his absence was a definite factor in the defense's dominance during the scrimmage. In wide-open attacks it's often assumed that everything revolves around the quarterback, however if last year is any indication, Mr. Hunter is the straw that stirs the Cowboy drink.
While official stats weren't released, all accounts of Oklahoma State's Saturday scrimmage mentioned sloppy play on offense. QB Brandon Weeden mentioned the defense's familiarity with the system as a possible reason for the struggles, and they also played without RB Kendall Hunter, who was out of town dealing with a "family matter." Still, the talk of dropped passes by the wideouts isn't encouraging. Most other practice updates have been positive, so there's no reason to panic yet, particularly with a relatively easy early schedule.
Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden continues to increase his comfort level with the Pokes' new offense. After Saturday's scrimmage, coaches praised his decision-making and accuracy. Weeden doesn't have any real competition for the starting job, but that hasn't stopped the 26-year old former baseball player from putting in time during the offseason to improve his game and overall familiarity with the offense. All signs point to a potential breakout season for Weeden in the new pass-happy offense.
Oklahoma State held its first scrimmage on Saturday, and 10 different receivers caught passes as Brandon Weeden and the other QBs spread the ball around. The Tulsa World article also referenced big plays to wideouts Tracy Moore, Justin Blackmon, and Josh Cooper. Weeden received compliments from both the head coach and offensive coordinator after the scrimmage, and he remains a high-upside option in fantasy drafts.
The Oklahoman reports that Cowboy Kendall Hunter is thriving as a pass catcher. Offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen says it's clear that catching the football "came natural to him." More good news from a back whom we believe is among the most overlooked heading into the 2010 season. Guess what? Hunter is really good and he's healthy.
"Colton Chelf, he's great and the guy is real savvy and he knows the game and that he can sit down in an open spot and I'll find him," Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden said when asked what receiver is flying under the radar. "He catches the ball and Coach (Dana) Holgorsen loves that." Barring a significant change of events, Chelf will play a backup role this fall, but when a quarterback singles a receiver out, we feel obligated to at least mention his name.
Tulsa World reports that "OSU Insiders" say running back Kendall Hunter looks the explosive runner from 2008, before an injury-plagued 2009 campaign. He also has taken to the new offense like a duck to water. Hunter is one of those backs that will have a huge impact on your draft. Some will reach to grab him, while others will be scared away. We see him returning to his form from two seasons ago.
Bill Hasten of Tulsa World believes 1,000 rushing yards and 600 receiving yards are "reasonable goals" for Oklahoma State running back Kendall Hunter. We are right inline with Hasten. We have Hunter eclipsing 1000 yards rushing and nearing 400 yards receiving. Though, 600 yards receiving is well within his reach. Hunter holds considerably more value in PPR leagues.
Tulsa World asked new Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen to compare Brandon Weeden to two of his former students, Graham Harrell and Case Keenum. Holgorsen said the current Cowboy field general is "better from an arm-strength and accuracy standpoint." While this in no way guarantees that Weeden will post numbers in the Harrell/Keenum neighborhood, it is a surprising quote nonetheless. This offense belongs to Weeden, and this alone makes him worth a draft day reach.
Oklahoma State QB Brandon Weeden is taking advantage of voluntary 7-on-7 drills to develop chemistry with his wideouts while continuing to perfect the Cowboys' new offense. After playing sparingly last season, Weeden needs the reps. The article discusses the importance of the quarterback and wide receivers being in sync, which these 7-on-7 sessions are perfect for. Weeden will also have more freedom to change plays at the line than in Mike Gundy's old system. Weeden remains somewhat of a risky pick, but the potential reward of 30 TDs is enticing.
NewsOK's Brandon Chatman had a nice breakdown of the Oklahoma State wide receivers and labeled Josh Cooper as the Pokes' potential leading receiver. With a new pass-happy offense in place, fantasy owners are dying to know where the value is among Oklahoma State wideouts. Hubert Anyiam is the only known commodity and will be the first one off the board. After that, keep Cooper in mind, as he seems to have a good rapport with QB Brandon Weeden.
Oklahoma State running back Kendall Hunter (knee) says he's "feeling good, 100 percent. I feel like I did in 2008, no doubt." Hunter has the ability to be one of the top, if not the top fantasy running back in the country when healthy. Look for a big rebound year for Hunter.
Fresh off a 30-day jail sentence for marijuana and drug paraphernalia, wide receiver Bo Bowling has been allowed to rejoin the team as a walk-on. "We expect him to demonstrate the high level of maturity and character that we demand from everyone on the team," coach Mike Gundy. The starting receiving rotation for the Cowboys appears to be set, but Bowling will add depth to the group that figures to play a much more prominent role in the offense this fall.
Oklahoma State athletic director Mike Holder said the TMZÿ report that they are heading to the Pac-10 is "false." The upstart TMZÿsports desk is no doubt looking to get the jump on a big story. At this point no one can be trusted until an official statement by the school or conference is made.
ESPN analyst Bruce Feldman writes to keep an eye on Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden. "(Weeden) may have the strongest throwing arm of any QB who has ever played in this kind of passing attack," Feldman says. We couldn't agree more. Weeden had a strong spring and looks poised to command offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen's offense. Make him a priority on draft day.
ESPN analyst Bruce Feldman writes that Oklahoma State quarterback Kendall Hunter "may be the most underrated back in the nation." Maybe in casual college football circles, but not here. Hunter will likely end up one of our Top Five fantasy backs when we release our post-spring player rankings.
Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden threw for 257 yards and four scores in the team's spring game, and this performance seemed to allow coach Mike Gundy and offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen to breathe a sigh of relief. There are a lot of factors pointing towards Weeden having a huge year: Gundy and Holgorsen know offense, there are a bunch of offensive options in Stillwater, and the 26-year old Weeden won't be too infatuated with those $3 cups at keg parties. He's a great QB2 option.
Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden is drawing high praise from offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen. "Brandon is better from an arm-strength and accuracy standpoint. I don't think there's any question about that," Holgorsen said, when comparing Weeden to the former quarterbacks he coached while at Texas Tech from 2000-07. Is Weeden a sure thing? No, but the ingredients are there for him to be a fantasy star. Choose your spot wisely, but he's definitely someone to target on draft day.
“I didn’t know how good he was," Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen said of running back Kendall Hunter. "Then you watch him in space, he can stop and start, he’s as good as I’ve seen.” We fully expect the Cowboys to lean heavily on Hunter this fall, both as a runner and as a back out of the backfield. He should be high on your draft board.
The Oklahoman's Brandon Chatmon describes Oklahoma State wide receiver Josh Cooper as "an ideal fit" for the new Dana Holgorsen offense. The speedster discussed his excitement when the new offensive coordinator was announced. Cooper will have plenty of chances to make big plays this season, but this offense will also be one that spreads the touches and touchdowns around, thus all Cowboys may hold more value in total-point leagues.
"He’ll get it as much as he can handle,” Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen said of running back Kendall Hunter. With Hunter missing most of last year with a foot injury, he could be a great value pick in 2010. He is going to see the ball both rushing and receiving next season.
Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy envisions running back Kendall Hunter touching the ball 250 times this season. "He may have 150 or 160 rushes, and maybe it's more catches," Gundy added. 250 touches in a season is about the benchmark for a good fantasy running back. But unless Gundy sees Hunter catching 90-100 passes, his numbers don't add up. Hunter is an excellent pass catcher and Holgorsen's offense will utilize backs out of the backfield, but that number still seems like a stretch.
Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy told Tulsa World that healthy running back Kendall Hunter (foot injury in 09) is "hungry again" and he's beating teammates in sprint drills by "five or six yards." The Oklahoma State offense will be one to keep tabs on this spring and summer. The arrival of passing guru Dana Holgorsen to run the offense presents some intrigue, though one can bet the new man in charge will not forget about Mr. Hunter.
New Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen has released his new depth chart, and it features Kendall Hunter as the starting tailback, and lists the four starting wide receivers as Hubert Anyiam, Justin Blackmon, Josh Cooper and Tracy Moore. One downside of this move to a wide-open offense is the apparent loss of the traditional tight end at a school that has produced its fair share of big guys rumbling down the seam.
New Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden is getting accustomed to serving as the team's starter, and he's also been watching a bunch of Case Keenum film in anticipation of working with new offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen. We're really intrigued at what wrinkles Holgorsen may bring to Stillwater; if he can make an already explosive offense even better then OSU will become an ever more attractive fantasy destination...and Weeden may emerge as a top fantasy quarterback.
The Oklahoman reports that Oklahoma State quarterback Alex Cate has left the program, and he'll look to continue his collegiate career at a school to be named later.
Cate apparently saw the writing on the wall, and the graffiti said, "Brandon Weeden will be the starting quarterback."
Brandon Chatmon of The Oklahoman looks back at Oklahoma State 2009 recruiting class, and he appears very high on running back Jeremy Smith, deeming his potential "superb." The direction of the Oklahoma State offense will be one of the off-seasons most intriguing stories, and it appears that young Mr. Smith has great keeper potential.
"Everybody in the country knows who Kendall Hunter is, and I'm thinking about giving him the ball on about every other snap," newly hired Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen said when asked what he knew of the Cowboys' personnel. "Other than that, I don't know a whole bunch about them." Holgerson, a Mike Leach disciple, is sure to bring about some change in Stillwater. But despite his pass-happy offense, we still see Kendall Hunter as being a big part of the offense.
Former Texas Tech quarterback Graham Harrell has joined the coaching staff at Oklahoma State. Harrell will assume the role of quality control. With the hiring of Dana Holgorsen and now Harrell, the Cowboys are assembling an offensive staff affluent in the Mike Leach system. The stock of quarterback Brandon Weeden increases by the day.
As The Oklahoman's Brandon Chatmon points out, despite the hiring of offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen, running back Kendall Hunter will still be heavily involved in the offense. We love this hire for the Pokes. Not only for quarterback Brandon Weeden and the Pokes' receivers, but also Hunter. Bryce Beall (2008) and Charles Sims (2009) thrived in Holgerson's pass happy offense. And one could argue that Hunter possess the most talent of any back to play in his system, especially with his ability to catch out of the backfield.
With the departure of Zac Robinson, Brandon Weeden is expected to take over the starting quarterback job for Oklahoma State next fall. Weeden is a good looking young quarterback. But it's hard to envision a Cowboy offense that doesn't feed Kendall Hunter a majority of the time.
Oklahoma State quarterback Zac Robinson's shoulder injury, suffered on November 14, was worse than originally thought. "There was a lot of bruising, but it ended up being a (sprained AC joint)," Robinson told reporters. There is no update on how his shoulder is feeling now, but you have to assume it is still bothering him some. He's also dealing with an ankle injury. Robinson is battered, bruised and one to avoid against Ole Miss.
The Oklahoman reports that Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy is looking for running back Kendall Hunter (ankle) to look like himself in the bowl game, thus providing a nice springboard to the 2010 campaign. Hunter's inability to catch a break and stay healthy led to disappointing fantasy numbers in 09, though he's an excellent candidate for a huge bounce-back season in 2010.
Tulsa World is reporting that Oklahoma State quarterback Zac Robinson sprained his ankle in the season finale against Oklahoma and the swelling has yet to subside. Robinson will likely play in the Cotton Bowl versus Ole Miss but it doesn't sound like he will be 100 percent. Robinson is not a good fantasy option this bowl season.
After being drubbed by Oklahoma 27-0 last Saturday, Oklahoma State has apparently lost out on the chance for an at-large BCS bowl bid. Instead, it looks like they could be headed to the Cotton Bowl. There are five BCS bowls and six automatic tie-ins. Ohio State is the only team in for sure. The ACC, Big East, Big 12, Pac-10 and SEC conference champions will be determined this Saturday. The contenders for the four remaining at-large spots are: the loser of Florida and Alabama, Texas (if they lose to Nebraska), Iowa, Penn State, TCU, Boise State and Oregon (if they lose to Oregon State).
Oklahoma State quarterback Zac Robinson threw for just 44 yards on 9-of-20 passing in Saturday's drubbing at the hands of in-state rival Oklahoma. Robinson was not 100 percent healthy in the game, after missing last week's contest against Colorado. This marks the worst offensive performance of the decade for the Cowboys, who managed just six first downs and 109 total yards.
Oklahoma State quarterback Zac Robinson (concussion) practiced with the first-team offense on Monday and is expected to start in the Bedlam game against Oklahoma.
ÿ Robinson is probably not a great fantasy start this week.ÿ But if your options are thin, at least it looks like he will play.
ÿ
Tulsa World reports that Oklahoma State quarterback Zac Robinson (bruised right shoulder) is expected to practice on Wednesday, though his odds of starting against Oklahoma on Saturday are 50-50. If Robinson can't go then Brandon Weeden will get the start. Weeden jumped to the #2 spot after outplaying Alex Cate against Colorado; Cate had been Robinson's backup.
