Depth Chart
| No depth chart available |
In his final game at Arizona State, receiver Gerrell Robinson set career highs with 13 receptions and 241 yards in a 56-24 Las Vegas Bowl loss to Boise State. Robinson's previous highs came against Arizona on Nov. 19 when he had 11 catches for 199 yards. He had six 100-yard games this season, all in the last eight weeks. Robinson, who caught a fourth-quarter TD pass, finished the year with 77-1,397-7.
Senior Aaron Pflugrad's move from the slot to outside receiver has been a good move for the Arizona State passing game. After catching only 13 passes with Oregon in two seasons, Pflugrad transferred to ASU. He was a nice complement last season, catching 29 passes. But the first two weeks of this season, he and Brock Osweiler have had something going. Pflugrad, who was in the slot last year, was 8-180-2 in last week's win over Missouri and enters Saturday's game at Illinois with 239 yards and 4 TDs.
Arizona State quarterback Steven Threet is not expected to return for 2011 due to numerous concussions, according to ESPN. Threet has been a competitor at both ASU and Michigan, but there is only so much the human body can take. Football will end eventually and having your body, especially your brain, intact, is a good thing.
As of now, Arizona State quarterback Steven Threet has not been cleared to participate in spring practices beginning March 22nd due to concussions suffered last season. Head coach Dennis Erickson stated "I don't know if he'll play spring football." If Threet is unable to go, the starting nod almost automatically falls to rising junior Brock Osweiler.
Arizona State kicker Thomas Weber connected on all five of his field goal attempts (52, 36, 38, 40, and 40) in the overtime win at Arizona. Weber has been inconsistent since winning the Lou Groza Award as a freshman in 2007 but came through tonight for the Sun Devils. He has looked great the last two weeks and could be a decent option if the Sun Devils win their appeal with the NCAA to become bowl eligible.
Arizona State wide receiver Kerry Taylor had a career-high 112 receiving yards in the win overtime win at Arizona. He tied his season-high with six catches. Taylor has been consistent all year but rarely had a big game. His previous high in receiving yards was 72 so tonight was a great time for the senior to break out. He finished the regular season with 54 catches for 699 yards and three touchdowns.
Arizona State was without starting quarterback Steven Threet and freshman running back Deantre Lewis due to concussions in the overtime win at Arizona. Threet and Lewis will now await word from the NCAA to see if the Sun Devils will be granted a waiver to become bowl eligible. Lewis is one of the better dynasty options in the Pac 10 and could be a nice sleeper option in the bowl season.
Arizona State quarterback Steven Threet completed 16-of-26 passes for 158 yards with one touchdowns and one interception in the loss to Stanford. He added a four-yard touchdown run. Threet also had a costly fumble at the goal line. His 158 yards passing was his lowest output in a game this season that he finished (he had 125 yards against Cal before sitting out the second half with a concussion). Hopefully the Sun Devils can get the passing game going during the bye week.
Arizona State wide receiver T.J. Simpson posted career-highs in catches (eight) and receiving yards (95) in the loss at USC. It was the third straight week he has led the Sun Devils in both categories. Simpson has quietly emerged as the best option in the Sun Devil passing attack. He has yet to score a touchdown on the season, but during the past three weeks he has 18 catches for 272 yards. If you need a receiver down the stretch, give him a shot.
Arizona State quarterback Steven Threet completed 24-of-40 passes for 228 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions in the loss at USC. Threet continues to throw interceptions (15 on the year) but still keeps posting solid fantasy lines. He couldn't take advantage of a struggling Trojans secondary as the offense line had a hard time in pass protection. If the line doesn't play better next weekend against Stanford, don't expect numbers better than what he did against the Trojans.
Arizona State quarterback Steven Threet completed 26-of-32 passes for 300 yards and three touchdowns in the win over Washington State. It was his third 300 yard passing game of the season. Threet played the best game of his Sun Devil career and didn't show any ill effects from the concussion he sustained last weekend. He could have had an even bigger game had he not been taken out with a 35-0 lead after the first series of the second half. He leads the Pac 10 and is 16th in the nation with 268 passing yards per game. He has a great matchup against a struggling USC pass defense next weekend.
Arizona State wide receiver T.J. Simpson established a new career-high with 90 receiving yards in the win over Washington State. He had broke his previous high of 87 yards set the week before. Simpson has now led the Sun Devils in catches and yards in two consecutive weeks and could be pushing to be the number one target in the wide open passing game. If you need help out wide, he is worth taking a gamble on as you might catch lightning in a bottle.
Arizona State quarterback Steven Threet (concussion) is expected to be ready to go against Washington State this weekend. Threet has had his ups and downs this year. Playing against Wazzu, he could be in store for another one of his ups.
Arizona State quarterback Steven Threet was unable to play in the second half of today's loss at Cal after suffering a concussion late in the first half. He finished with 121 yards passing and two interceptions. Threet will have to pass several tests before he is cleared to play next weekend against Washington State. He now has thrown 11 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in seven games.
Arizona State only passed for 187 yards in the loss at Cal even though they were down big for most of the game. T.J. Simpson set career-highs with five catches and 87 yards but the rest of the receivers didn't fare so well. Kerry Taylor (three catches for 20 yards), Michael Willie (two catches for 18 yards), and Gerell Robinson (one catch for six yards) didn't make any of their fantasy owners happy. Make sure Steven Threet is healthy before committing to any of the Sun Devil receivers next weekend.
Arizona State quarterback Steven Threet ignored the heavy rains and completed 21-of-34 passes for 288 yards with one touchdown and one interception in the win at Washington. He added a one-yard scoring run as well. Threet had thrown seven interceptions in his last two games and quickly quieted all the talk about benching him with his performance. He now has 11 touchdowns to go with his 11 interceptions. He is second in the conference with 286.5 passing yards and is a solid fantasy play as long as he remains the starter in Tempe.
Arizona State wide receiver Kerry Taylor had four catches for 66 yards in the loss to Oregon State. Production from wide receivers in spread offenses can be tough to predict on a weekly basis, but Taylor has now produced between 66 and 72 yards in his last four games. He ranks sixth in the Pac 10 with 62.4 yards per game.
Arizona State quarterback Steven Threet completed 14-of-29 passes for 203 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions in the loss at Oregon State. The turnovers and the running game excelling led to the low passing numbers. While Threet has the potential to put up huge numbers every week, owners have to be wary of the 10 interceptions he has thrown already. The Sun Devils have only produced four touchdowns in 13 red zone trips over the last three games, which is going to have to improve if Threet is going to become a stud fantasy player.
Arizona State wide receiver Aaron Pflugrad suffered a turf-toe injury in the loss at Oregon State. He had one catch for nine yards in the game. That would explain his pedestrian numbers. Pflugrad has 19 catches for 216 yards through five games and can probably be dropped now if you own him.
Arizona State quarterback Steven Threet completed 30-of-53 passes for 387 yards with three touchdowns and four interceptions in the loss to Oregon. Fantasy owners will enjoy that line much more than Sun Devils fans. Threet leads the Pac-10 with 307 yards per game but has seven interceptions to go with his eight touchdown passes. He is averaging 39 pass attempts per game and is a borderline BCS league starter if turnovers aren't deducted too heavily.
Arizona State quarterback Steven Threet completed 21 of 31 passes for 211 yards in the one-point loss at Wisconsin. He didn't throw a touchdown or interception. Threet now leads the Pac 10 with 103 pass attempts and is second with 280 passing yards per game. He is quickly shedding the sleeper label and should be a decent option going forward.
Arizona State wide receiver Kerry Taylor had six catches for 71 yards in the loss at Wisconsin. Taylor has surprised so far this season racking up 13 catches for 180 yards and a touchdown. The senior is proving to be the player that quarterback Steven Threet trusts when he needs a first down. He should be owned in all Pac 10 leagues.
Arizona State wide receiver Aaron Pflugrad caught eight passes for 77 yards in the win over Northern Arizona. The sure-handed slot receiver is going to rack up a ton of catches in this offense. but he isn't going to find the end zone often. Fellow wide receivers Kerry Taylor (six catches for 72 yards and a touchdown) and T.J. Simpson (three catches for 79 yards) had nice games as well.
Arizona State quarterback Steven Threet completed 33 of 49 passes for 391 yards and three touchdowns in the win over Northern Arizona. It wasn't all good as he did throw two interceptions. The ground game really struggled today so the Sun Devils took to the air. They should be a good bet to lead the conference in passing attempts and that means fantasy points galore for Threet. He has some real value in the right matchups going forward.
Arizona State QB Steven Threet played well in the win over Portland State. He completed 14-of-21 passes for 239 yards and two touchdowns and one interception. He added 24 yards rushing. Threet didn't do anything to allow Brock Osweiler to eat into his playing time. He looks pretty safe as the starter going forward. Of course all of that could change in a couple weeks after the Sun Devils head to Camp Randall to take on Wisconsin.
ASU quarterback Steven Threet has beat out Brock Osweiler for the starting job. He started eight games for Michigan in 2008 before sitting out last season after transferring. In the Sun Devils new up-tempo spread offense, Threet could be quite a fantasy find. They should pass the ball more than anyone in the Pac 10 and quite a few playmakers have emerged this fall on the offensive side of the ball. Osweiler is expected to play in the opener as well, so he could eat into some of Threet's value.
Doug Haller of The Arizona Republic seems pretty certain that Steven Threet will win the starting quarterback job at Arizona State. Threet ran the first-team offense in Friday's scrimmage. Threet and Brock Osweiler have been in a pretty heated battle, and the clear winner should be a decent desperation option in Pac-10 leagues.
Arizona State QB Steven Threet took the field with the first team offense during today's scrimmage. He completed 9 of 15 for 97 yards and added a short rushing touchdown. A starter might not be named until the opener but Threet appears to be pulling slightly ahead of Brock Osweiler due to his poise and command of the huddle. Osweiler finished the scrimmage 9 of 14 for 79 yards with one touchdown.
Arizona State has asked tight end Dan Knapp to move to offensive tackle, and as part of the switch he'll be asked to put on about 25 pounds. Knapp was not a huge pass-catcher, thus this move doesn't have much fantasy impact. Though we're jealous of this fella, who gets to go all Robert DeNiro in Raging Bull and gain a whole bunch of weight while stuffing his face. Godspeed Dan.
Arizona State quarterback Steven Threet completed 9-of-27 passes for 117 yards and three interceptions in Saturday's spring game. This won't help his effort to win the starting job. Brock Osweiler completed 17-of-33 passes for 151 yards and one touchdown and one interception. Threet was outplayed all spring and looks to be headed to the backup role.
Arizona State wide receiver Aaron Pflugrad had six catches for 50 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's scrimmage. Pflugrad is in line to start for the Sun Devils after sitting out last year as a transfer from Oregon. The offense appears set to go to the air often which should give him plenty of opportunities to become fantasy relevant.
Arizona State quarterback Steven Threet completed 12 of 20 passes for 161 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday's scrimmage. He would have had an even better day had Gerell Robinson not dropped an easy 65-yard touchdown pass. Threet should have gained ground on Brock Osweiler with his performance but this battle may come down to the last week before the season starts. Either way, this situation is a must watch as the winner could be a sneaky fantasy play this year.
Arizona State quarterback Steven Threet completed 14-of-24 passes for 145 yards and one touchdown in Saturday's scrimmage. While this is a decent line, Brock Osweiler seems to be making a real push to grab the starting gig. Threet was thought of as the leader heading into spring because of his experience and the need to win this season in Tempe. This battle should go down to the wire, but Threet is losing ground quickly.
Arizona State quarterback Steven Threet took the snaps with the first unit during Tuesday's practice. Don't read too much into this because it was determined by a coin flip. Threet and Brock Osweiler both struggled with their accuracy during the Sun Devils first spring practice. Osweiler is expected to take the snaps with the first unit next time out. This battle could come down to the wire, but I expect Threet to be named the starter. Whoever wins though, should be a nice sleeper with the Sun Devils looking to air it out this fall.
Arizona State wide receiver T.J. Simpson may miss spring ball while he recovers from an ankle injury suffered last season. When healthy in 2009, Simpson showed a knack for making the big play. In fact, in two seasons Simpson has only caught seven passes, but three have gone for touchdowns.
Arizona State wide receiver Brandon Smith has been granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA. Smith has spent much of his career on the injury list, so not much is known about him.
Arizona State coach Dennis Erickson has hired Noel Mazzone to run the Sun Devil offense.
Erickson told The Arizona Republic that the well-traveled Mazzone "brings a great deal of ideas" to the role, and considering the ASU offense was ranked 89th in 2009 some "ideas" are probably a good thing. Erickson reports that the team will quarterback will play more under center while maintaining some spread tendencies.
Jeff Metcalf of The Arizona Republic comments on the coming attractions for the 2010 Arizona State Sun Devils, and it's clear that the staff has high hopes for wide receiver Aaron Pflugrad, an Oregon Duck refugee. The Sun Devils lose quite a bit of wide receiver production, and one would expect an experienced talent like Pflugrad to step right in and contribute.
Danny Sullivan replaced starting quarterback Samson Szakascy as the Sun Devil offense was stalling against Arizona, finishing with 168 yards and two touchdowns. It's been a rough year in Tempe for quarterbacks. Brock Osweiler will look to change that next season.
Arizona State wide receiver Kyle Williams had nine catches for 130 yards and two touchdowns against rival Arizona. Williams caught a game-tying touchdown only to fumble a punt moments later that set up the Wildcats game winning kick. Despite the inconsistency at quarterback for the Sun Devils, Williams has been pretty productive, closing the season with eight TDs.
Arizona State coach Dennis Erickson will decide on his starting quarterback for the Arizona game on Tuesday. Senior Danny Sullivan or sophomore Samson Szakacsy will get the nod.
Freshman and future star Brock Osweiler will rest his shoulder. Neither Sullivan nor Szakacsy present much fantasy potential.
With three quarterbacks on the mend, it is unknown who will start for Arizona State this Saturday against UCLA. Danny Sullivan (biceps), Brock Osweiler (shoulder) and Samson Szakacsy (elbow) are the three candidates. UCLA's defense looks like a decent play this week.
Arizona State quarterback Danny Sullivan was limited in practice on Tuesday due to a biceps injury. Coach Dennis Erickson hasn't ruled Sullivan out for this week's game against Oregon, but has not named a starter as of yet. This is clearly a position to avoid.
Arizona State coach Dennis Erickson hopes to make a decision on who will start at quarterback, Brock Osweiler or Danny Sullivan, against Oregon by midweek. The Ducks are coming of a loss to Stanford and will be hungry for a win. This is not a spot where you want to play a shaky Sun Devils quarterback.
Arizona State freshman quarterback Brock Osweiler replaced starter Danny Sullivan in the third quarter of Saturday's loss to Southern Cal. Osweiler completed just 11-of-27 passes for 153 yards, a score and an interception. Sullivan was 12-of-23 for 113 yards and two INTs before departing. Osweiler is the future for ASU, so it will be interesting to see what direction they go as a disappointing season heads in to its final weeks. Neither looks like a great option next week against what should be an angry Oregon defense.
The Arizona Republic reports that Arizona State wide receiver Kerry Taylor (hamstring) is expected to return this week. Taylor has caught ten balls for 130 yards on the campaign.
The Arizona Republic reports that Arizona State wide receiver T.J. Simpson may miss the remainder of the season with an ankle injury. Simpson has caught five balls for 94 yards and two scores on the season.
"I'm supposed to get a big opportunity this weekend," Arizona State running back Ryan Bass said Tuesday. "We'll see if the coaches keep their word. We'll see what happens." While that is great news for Bass, this likely means Dimitri Nance will be limited or unavailable due to the shoulder injury suffered last weekend.
Quarterback Danny Sullivan (knee) is expected to start Saturday against Cal. Sullivan will also likely get one of his favorite targets, Kyle Williams (hamstring), back this week as well.
Williams has been in and out of the lineup the last few weeks due to the injury, so it is tough to gauge just how healthy he is.
Arizona State running back Dimitri Nance suffered a shoulder injury in the third quarter against Stanford and did not return. Quarterback Danny Sullivan also took a shot to the knee, but says he is fine. Nance's status for Saturday's game against Cal is unknown.
Arizona State wide receiver Kyle Williams' hamstring injury forced him to miss the latter part of practice on Wednesday. Williams' limited role against Washington certainly hurt the offensive attack for the Sun Devils, and it sounds like this hamstring refuses to cooperate, making the senior one to avoid for now.
Arizona State running back Dimitri Nance sprained his knee last week against Washington. Still coach Dennis Erickson expects Nance to play Saturday against Stanford.
Nance was limited to just 70 yards on 13 carries against the Huskies.
Arizona State kicker Thomas Weber (groin) returned for the Sun Devils on Saturday, but he was only 1-3 on field goal attempts while adding three extra points. Look for Weber to regain his spot at the team's starting kicker.
Arizona State wide receiver Kyle Williams caught 13 passes for 126 yards and a score in the win over Washington State on Saturday. Williams was limited to just two catches last week due to a hamstring injury. Looks like the injury is a thing of the past.
Arizona State wide receiver Kyle Williams (hamstring) should be near full strength this week against Washington State. Williams played, but was not 100 percent, last week against Oregon State. Williams and Chris McGaha should give the Wazzu secondary fits this on Saturday. McGaha had a career high 15 catches last week against the Beavers.
Arizona State coach Dennis Erickson told The East Valley Tribune that quarterback Danny Sullivan will remain the team's starter this week against Washington State, though coach also mentioned that stud freshman Brock Osweiler could also see action. Sullivan is not much of a fantasy option, however owners will want to do a little scouting with Osweiler, who by all accounts has future star written all over him.
Arizona State running back Dimitri Nance has gained 278 yards from scrimmage and scored four touchdowns in 2009, and running backs coach Bryce Erickson tells The Arizona Republic that Nance is "a totally different back." Coach Dennis Erickson will always look to establish the run, thus Nance has emerged as a solid waiver wire option.
Arizona State running back Dimitri Nance served as the Sun Devils main offensive weapon Saturday, taking 25 carries for 92 yards and grabbing four receptions for 47 yards and a touchdown in a 20-17 road loss to Georgia. Nance continues to see the majority of carries for ASU, with the senior taking 50 for 205 yards and three touchdowns through the Sun Devils' first three games of 2009.
Arizona State kicker Thomas Weber will miss five to six weeks due to a groin injury. Weber suffered the injury in practice last Thursday and missed last Saturday's game against Louisiana-Monroe.
Bobby Wenzig is expected to take over field goal and extra point duties.
Arizona State kicker Thomas Weber was a late scratch for the week three match with Louisiana-Monroe due to a hip-flexor injury. Freshman Bobby Wenzig converted on a field goal and five extra points in Weber's absence. The Arizona State kicking situation is another to avoid for the time being.
Senior wideout Kyle Williams broke out for 129 yards on eight receptions Saturday night as the Arizona State Sun Devils trounced Louisiana-Monroe 38-14 at home. Williams posted five catches for 50 yards in the season-opener against Idaho State and is getting first-looks from developing senior quarterback Danny Sullivan. Watch for Williams numbers to continue to impress, and he'll have additional opportunities as a punt and kick returner.
Head coach of the Arizona State states that as of now senior Dimitri Nance will remain the team's starter at tailback against Louisiana Monroe Fantasy owners, you'll want to watch this situation. Keep in mind that in last week's 50-3 blowout of Idaho State, nearly every ASU RB saw time out on the field. Erickson stated that based on that process, freshman Cameron Marshall, sophomore Ryan Bass, and senior Shaun DeWitty have earned the right to play a significant role in the Sun Devils' rushing attack heading into Week Two's contest with Louisiana Monroe. Nance's overall production could thereby be limited, making him a cautious play.
Coach Dennis Erickson has suspended "five or six" players for the season opener against Idaho State. While he did not list all the names, he did let it slip that wide receiver Kerry Taylor would be one of them. This is a dicey week for fantasy owners as there are sure to be several unreported player suspensions after a long offseason. The safe bet would be to hold all Sun Devil players off your fantasy roster in week one.
Arizona State's talented freshman quarterback Brock Osweiler will open the season as the backup to senior Danny Sullivan. The Arizona Republic reports one reason behind the decision is the arm injury to fellow quarterback Samson Szakacsy. Osweiler is one of the nation's top true freshman quarterbacks, and should the Sun Devils' season go south one would expect the youngster to be tossed into the fray.
While we've been all over young Arizona State quarterback Brock Osweiler as a future star, there is little doubt that Danny Sullivan will lead the Sun Devils into 2009. Coach Dennis Erickson told the East Valley Tribune that "right now there's no question." Hopefully Sullivan will spend less time than Rudy Carpenter in the training room, as the ASU offensive line has been woeful of late. Should we see improvement then Sullivan may warrant spot-start consideration in Pac-10 leagues.
Arizona State wide receiver Brandon Smith suffered what appears to be a serious knee injury in practice on Saturday.
Smith was expected to backup Kerry Taylor and Gerell Robinson this fall. Smith's status appears to be in doubt.
Arizona State quarterback Danny Sullivan completed 8-of-16 passes for 42 yards in Saturday's spring game. More importantly, Sullivan was the only quarterback that did not throw an interception. While coach Dennis Erickson has yet to name a starter, conventional wisdom points to Sullivan exiting spring atop the depth chart.
Arizona State quarterback Danny Sullivan completed 10-of-14 passes, including a 32-yard touchdown to wide receiver Chris McGaha in Saturday's scrimmage. Danny Sullivan seems to have locked up the starting quarterback spot for the Sun Devils this spring.
Cory McCartney writes in a nice "top 10" style piece that Arizona State wide receiver Kyle Williams is poised to have a breakout year in 2009. Williams is known primarily as a punt returner, but McCartney cites his almost 20 yards per reception as notable. We'll keep an eye on Williams this year, and certainly tip our caps to Mr. McCartney if this one pans out.
