Stanford News
| Ex-Stanford QB Nunes carving out new career path |
|---|
STANFORD, Calif. (AP) The bench press started like every other one Josh Nunes had done throughout his Stanford career. As he lifted the weight above his chest, the former starting quarterback thought he felt his right shoulder pop. The weight crashed down violently on his upper body, and his spotter quickly pulled the bar off. Remarkably, Nunes gathered himself enough to sit up. |

In his final game with Stanford, Andrew Luck threw for 347 yards and 2 touchdowns. The effort came in a 41-38 overtime to Oklahoma State in the Fiesta Bowl. Luck completed 27-of-31 (87 percent) passes, including all 15 in Stanford's five scoring drives. Luck, who had one interception, finished his final college season completing 71.4 percent of his passes for 3,617 yards with 37 touchdowns and 10 INTs.
According to coach David Shaw, Stanford receiver Chris Owusu (concussions) will likely not play in the Fiesta Bowl against Oklahoma State. That would mean Owusu would finish his college career on the sideline. With three concussions in 13 months, any chance at playing the NFL may be in doubt as well. Owusu, who has 102-career receptions, missed the last three games.
Stanford's Andrew Luck won the Maxwell Award as the nation's best all-around player. Though he did not take the award for the best quarterback, Luck was able to take home some hardware as the best player in the country. That sentiment was echoed earlier today when Luck was awarded the Walter Camp best overall player award as well. The highly buzzed-about junior led the Cardinal to an 11-1 season behind his 3,170 yards and 35 touchdowns this year. The award-winning signal caller will not defend his title next year, as he has stated he will turn pro in time for next year's draft.
According the team's official website, Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck has the won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award. Luck, who is one of five Heisman finalists, guided Stanford to an 11-1 regular season and a Fiesta Bowl date with Oklahoma State. On the field, the senior has thrown for 3,170 yards and 35 touchdowns. Academics also comes into play with the Golden Arm Award and Luck is a member of Pac-12 All-Academic First Team.
Andrew Luck threw for 233 yards and 4 touchdowns in a 28-14 win over visiting Notre Dame. Luck threw at least 2 touchdown passes in all 12 regular-season games and, dating to last season, extended that streak to 15 games. He threw four TD passes two other times this year and has 35 on the season. Luck also went over 3,000 yards passing on the year and 9,000 for his career.
Stanford receiver Chris Owusu (concussion) will be held out of Saturday's game against Oregon. After suffering his third concussion in little more than a year against Oregon State last week, Owusu's status was questionable at best. The senior is second on the Cardinal with 35 receptions.
Concussion could sideline Stanford receiver Chris Owusu for the Saturday's top-10 battle against Oregon. Owusu suffered his third concussion in little more than a year and had to be removed from the field Saturday against Oregon State. While tests will be performed as the week progresses, it does not look good for Owusu's availability against Oregon in a battle of top-10 teams. Owusu is 35-376-2 this season with his reception total second on the team. As it is, the Cardinal will likely be without Zach Ertz (22 rec.) because of a knee injury. Tight end Levine Toilolo suffered an "upper-body" injury against the Beavers and did not return. These injuries could leave leading Heisman candidate Andrew Luck shorthanded for a game in which he could lockup the hardware.
Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck threw for 206 yards and 3 touchdowns in a 38-13 win at Oregon State. Luck was 20-30 for 206 yards and 3/1. Those are not numbers that come close to sealing a Heisman, but they were solid. After all, Luck had 3 TD passes in a 25-point win. It was the sixth time this season Luck has thrown at least 3 TD passes in a game and he has 26 on the season -- with only 5 INTs.
Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck threw for 330 yards and had 4 TDs (one rush) in a 56-48 3OT win at USC. Luck, who was 29-of-40 with 3 TDs and 1 INT at USC, has thrown for 2,218 yards and 23 TD passes with only 4 INTs this season. He has completed 71.9 percent of his passes, which outpaces his 70.7 of 2010. Only twice in eight games this season has he completed less than 65 percent of his passes with a season-low of 63.9 on Oct. 15 at Washington State. The senior has the fifth-best rating in the nation behind Russell Wilson, Case Keenum, Robert Griffin III and Kellen Moore.
Stanford receiver Chris Owusu (conussion) is expected to play Saturday against Washington. Andrew Luck has been spreading the ball around nicely this season as five pass catchers have at least 15 receptions. The leader of the pack is Owusu, with 25. The senior suffered a concussion against Washington State last week.
Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck threw for 336 yards and 4 touchdowns in a 44-14 win at Washington State. It was the fourth time this season that Luck threw at least 3 TD passes and he has 18 on the year against only 3 INTs. Saturday night also marked Luck's third 300-yard game of the season.
Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck threw for 370 yards and 3 TDs as the Cardinal blew past Colorado, 48-7. Perhaps most impressive about Luck's performance in Palo Alto on Saturday was the distribution. No receiver caught more than four passes and 11 different players had at least one reception. Through five game, Luck has 1,383 yards passing and 14 TDs with only two picks.
Do not expect Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck to catch any more passes, as he did against UCLA last week. Luck had his moment in the sun as a receiver and the video clip of his reception created quite a buzz. Can you imagine the buzz if the Heisman candidate got hurt?
Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck totaled 361 yards to lead the Cardinal over Arizona. Luck's Heisman campaign remains on schedule after a thorough effort in the desert. He was 20-of-31 for 325 yards with 2 TDs against the Wildcats. Whether he was finding an open receiver or running for a first down, Luck's scrambling ability came into play at key times. He enters an open week having completed 67 percent of his pass with 8 TDs and only one pick.
Stanford senior receiver Chris Owusu has emerged as Heisman candidate Andrew Luck's top receiver. With the Cardinal's leading receivers from a year ago having graduated, the opportunity was there for Owusu to step up and be the go-to man for Luck. Owusu is doing a very good job of that. He was 7-106-1 in an easy win over Duke on Saturday, giving him consecutive weeks of seven receptions to open his senior season. With 14 catches, he's more than halfway to his 2010 total of 25.
Coming off an injury-riddled 2010, senior Chris Owusu is working to become the top target of his Heisman-candidate teammate. If there ever was an opportunity to greatly improve one's stock and place himself on the radar of NFL scouts, it is Owusu in Palo Alto. With Andrew Luck's top receivers from a year ago - Doug Baldwin and Ryan Whalen - graduated, Owusu is striving to be Luck's favorite target. In a 2010 campaign that was disrupted by a concussion and a knee injury, he managed to catch 25 passes. "We're a different when he plays," said coach David Shaw.
Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck lit up the defense in the Cardinal spring game, throwing for 165 yards and three scores. The Cardinal will not be as good as 2010, however there's little reason to expect a significant drop-off from Mr. Luck, a superstar certain to be the Sam Bradford of the 2012 NFL Draft.
New Stanford offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton tells the San Jose Mercury News that the Cardinal will "at the end of the day get off the bus running power." Translated this means that they won't wing it 50 times a game just because all-Everything quarterback Andrew Luck has decided to return for his senior season. While the staff wants to stick with what has worked under Jim Harbaugh, it would be reasonable to expect an increase in passing attempts for Luck in 2011. They'll want to win with the ball in the hands of their best player.
Stanford running back Jeremy Stewart will be back for another year and fellow running back Usua Amanam will get a look at cornerback this spring. Stewart having another year of eligibility provides good depth, but essentially the only way the ball is coming out of Stepfan Taylor's hands will be due to injury.
Stanford receiver Chris Owusu missed Monday's practice as he continues to recover from injuries last season. ÿ"He's got nothing to prove to me," coach David Shaw said. Owusu has all the talent and the quarterback to have a big time season. He just needs to get healthy and on the field.
After Jim Harbaugh left The Farm for the Frisco Bay, offensive coordinator David Shaw has been named the new head coach for Stanford. Shaw made the offensive machine go and should keep the momentum going for the Cardinal.
Stanford wide receiver Doug Baldwin had five catches for 97 yards and a touchdown in the win at Cal. He drew the start again with Chris Owusu sidelined. Baldwin showed great concentration and hands on two circus catches in the second quarter to help put the game away for the Cardinal. He is now sixth in the Pac 10 with 66.1 receiving yards per game and is a must start down the stretch with Owusu injured.
Stanford wide receiver Ryan Whalen had five catches for 51 yards in the win at Arizona State. With Chris Owusu out, Whalen figured to have a better game but the Sun Devils took him out while leaving Doug Baldwin (10 catches for 123 yards) open underneath. He is a decent option in Pac 10 leagues down the stretch but don't be afraid to take a shot on someone else with more upside.
Stanford wide receiver Doug Baldwin set career-highs with 10 catches and 123 receiving yards in the win at Arizona State. It was his second 100 yard game of the season. Baldwin started for the injured Chris Owusu and was open all night long. He has had some monster games when pressed into duty, but with Stanford keeping injuries secret it's hard to predict when he will be in the starting lineup. He has 46 catches for 630 yards and six touchdowns this season.
Stanford wide receiver Ryan Whalen had five catches 59 yards in the win at Washington. Stanford jumped out to a huge lead early which lowered the numbers in the passing game. Whalen looked healthy (elbow) and is back to being the top receiving option for Andrew Luck. He is a great buy low candidate and could post some huge games down the stretch.
Stanford wide receiver Ryan Whalen set season highs with six passes for 71 yards and a touchdown in the win over Washington State. Whalen has been dealing with an elbow injury but looked good against a struggling Cougar pass defense. He should post strong numbers the rest of the way as long as Andrew Luck stays healthy. He is a good buy low candidate.
Stanford wide receiver Doug Baldwin had a career-high eight catches for 98 yards and two touchdowns in win over USC. He is tied for the Pac 10 lead with five receiving touchdowns. Baldwin saw more action that usual with Chris Owusu and Ryan Whalen banged up entering the game. He had a monster game (four catches, 111 yards, and two touchdowns) in Week 1 so this wasn't unprecedented. The bye week should allow the starters to heal up but Baldwin is worth a roster spot in Pac 10 leagues in case he finds himself starting again this season.
Stanford wide receivers Chris Owusu (concussion) and Ryan Whalen (elbow) both played against USC. Owusu had three catches for 73 yards while Whalen only managed one catch for 18 yards. It was good to see both starters make it out on the field after being questionable during the week. The Cardinal will use the bye week to heal up, and look for the passing game to be back at full strength in two weeks against Washington State.
Stanford receivers Chris Owusu (mild concussion) and Ryan Whalen (elbow) practiced this week, but wore yellow noncontact jerseys. It looks like the pair have a good chance of playing against USC, which is good for Andrew Luck. But they are too much of a risk to start.
Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh gave no update on the status of receiver Ryan Whalen (elbow) for this week's contest against USC. There is a good chance Stanford will have both Whalen and Chris Owusu (mild concussion) back this week. But there's just as good of chance both will be unable to play, making them receivers to avoid this week.
Stanford wide receiver Ryan Whalen returned to practice on Wednesday. He suffered a dislocated elbow in the win over Wake Forest on September 18th. There is no news on how much he practiced or if he would be available for the big showdown in Eugene this weekend. If he can return it would provide the Cardinal with a huge boost in the passing game. We probably won't know more until right before kickoff thanks to Jim Harbaugh's reluctance to talk about injuries so you are probably better off looking for another option this week.
Stanford kicker Nate Whitaker nailed all five of his field goal attempts (24, 41, 36, 33, and 29) in the win over Notre Dame. Whitaker is now a perfect eight-for-eight on field goal attempts this season. Stanford is averaging 48 points per game so you know that he will continue to see ample opportunities to score. He should be owned in all BCS only leagues.
Stanford fullback/linebacker Owen Marecic pulled off an incredible feat in the Cardinals win over Notre Dame. He plunged in from the one-yard line on offense and 13 seconds later returned an interception 20 yards for another score. The two-way standout is a throwback football player but he won't have many great fantasy days. He finished the game with three carries for three yards and one catch for four yards. He has nine carries for 20 yards and two touchdowns on the season.
Stanford wide receiver Ryan Whalen suffered a dislocated elbow last week against Wake Forest and is highly doubtful for Saturday's game against Notre Dame. "As soon as I tell you you're going to tell Notre Dame," Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh said when asked if Whalen would play. You can tell how testy Harbaugh gets when asked about injures. It would seem unlikely that Whalen will play this week, increasing the stock of Chris Owusu and Doug Baldwin.
Stanford wide receiver Ryan Whalen injured his left elbow after catching a four-yard pass early in the first quarter. He tried to brace his fall with his left hand and his elbow bent backwards. It didn't look good and I would be surprised if he returned to this game. The way Jim Harbaugh controls the injury report, we may not know much about this for a couple of days.
Stanford running back Jeremy Stewart was not in uniform during yesterday's practice. He is still nursing an ankle injury and is doubtful for this weekend's contest. Look for Stepfan Taylor to lead the team in carries again against Wake Forest.
Stanford running back Jeremy Stewart sat out Saturday's contest with UCLA due to an ankle injury. Stepfan Taylor got the start and rushed for 80 yards on 20 carries.
Stanford wide receiver Ryan Whalen caught four pases for 40 yards including a 16-yard scoring strike in the first quarter. Whalen now has eight catches for 104 yards and one touchdown after two games. It seems like defenses have really zoned in on stopping him with Chris Owusu out of the lineup. Hopefully a healthy Owusu will fatten up Whalen's numbers.
Stanford RB Jeremy Stewart suffered an apparent ankle injury in last week's win over Sacramento State. He had five carries for 21 yards and a touchdown before limping off the field. He is questionable for this weekend's showdown with UCLA. The Cardinal backfield is hard to gauge right now, but if Stewart is out then it might be worth rolling the dice on Stepfan Taylor this weekend. The Bruins did give up 313 yards rushing last week to Kansas State.
Yesterday's game didn't give any indication if anyone in the Stanford backfield is going to emerge as a viable fantasy option this season. Jeremy Stewart started and had five carries for 21 yards and a touchdown. The fact that he only carried the ball five times has to be concerning for fantasy owners. The rest of the backfield went as follows: Stepfan Taylor (3 carries for 16 yards and a 59-yard receiving touchdown), Tyler Gaffney (eight carries for 33 yards and a touchdown, Usua Amanam (eight carries for 50 yards), and Anthony Wilkerson (seven carries for 27 yards and a touchdown). This is definitely a situation to avoid until further notice.
Stanford wide receiver Doug Baldwin had four catches for 111 yards and two touchdowns in the win over Sacramento State. All of his yardage came in the first half. In one half Baldwin exceeded his 2009 totals (four catches for 36 yards). He drew the start today with Chris Owusu out so don't expect similar weeks like this going forward. The good news is that the Cardinal are going to throw it a ton this season, so he should hold some value in Pac-10 leagues as their third wideout.
Stanford WR Ryan Whalen had six catches for 64 yards in yesterday's win. He did all of his damage in the first half. A decent day for Whalen, but I am sure his owners expected more with Chris Owusu out of this game and the way that Andrew Luck lit it up. Don't worry though as he is still going to lead this team in receiving when all is said and done.
Stanford RB Jeremy Stewart is leading the race to replace Toby Gerhart. His ability to pass protect is what is giving him the edge right now. The 6-foot-1, 218 pound senior averaged 6.3 yards per carry during an injury plagued 2009 campaign. Stepfan Taylor was thought to be leading the charge heading into the fall based on his performance last year as the backup to Gerhart. Don't count him out yet as we are still early in the process and this situation has committee written all over it.
Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh said running back Jeremy Stewart "has separated himself in some ways as a pass protector and runner." Coach Harbaugh went on to say Stepfan Taylor "has been outstanding as well." Keep in mind Tyler Gaffney, a front runner to take over the starting job, has spent most of spring with the baseball team. And it will probably take all three of them to replace Toby Gerhart. We'll likely have to wait to see if someone can separate himself from the pack this fall.
Regarding departing running back Toby Gerhart, Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh said, "I don't think we can replace him with one person, but I do believe we can replace his production in combination." Not good news for fantasy owners. Look for Tyler Gaffney, Jeremy Stewart and Stepfan Taylor to battle for the right to gain some of Gerhart's lost yards.
Stanford is planning on moving fullback Owen Marecic to linebacker. Coach Jim Harbaugh said that Marecic will "be working with the defense all spring." Clearly Marecic's fantasy value will be minimal as linebackers don't see too many carries.
Stanford running back Toby Gerhart is not listed on the NFL's official early entry list. Before fantasy owners get too excited, Gerhart says he is off to the NFL. However, despite having a year of eligibility remaining, the NFL must be classifying him as a senior.
Stanford running back Toby Gerhart has decided to declare for the 2010 NFL Draft. At some point one can do no more where he's at and it's time to move on. This is one such instance. Stanford has a gaping hole at the running back spot.
Starting for the injured Andrew Luck, Stanford quarterback Tavita Pritchard completed just 8 of 19 passes for 117 yards and was intercepted twice. A tough way to wrap up a career and the Cardinal will welcome back a healthy Luck with open arms next season.
Stanford running back Toby Gerhart scored twice and had 135 yards in a Sun Bowl loss to Oklahoma. Gerhart has one year of eligibility left, but has already slipped when discussing his plans for next year. He finishes the year with an amazing 28 touchdowns and 1,871 yards. Best of luck on Sunday's Mr. Gerhart.
Tavita Pritchard will start at quarterback for Stanford when they take on Oklahoma in the Sun Bowl on Dec. 31. There was an outside chance Andrew Luck (finger surgery) could return, but that won't happen. Pritchard is no stranger to the starting role, having started 19 games for the Cardinal before giving way to Luck this season.
Stanford's Toby Gerhart won the Doak Walker Award given to nation's top collegiate running back. Gerhart beat out finalists Mark Ingram from Alabama and C.J. Spiller from Clemson. Gerhart leads the FBS in rushing yards with 1736 and rushing touchdowns with 26.
Stanford running back Toby Gerhart accidentally tipped his hadn regarding the 2010 NFL Draft in an interview on Comcast's Chronicle Live. “I’m going to start training here shortly, get ready for the combine," Gerhart said. There is only one combine coming up and that is the NFL Draft Combine in February. I don't think anyone would disagree that Gerhart is physically ready for the NFL. He reminds me of former NFL fullback/running back Mike Alstott.
Five footballers have been named finalists for the Heisman Trophy to be presented on Dec. 12 at 8 p.m. EST. Stanford running back Toby Gerhart, Alabama running back Mark Ingram, Texas quarterback Colt McCoy, Nebraska defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and Florida quarterback Tim Tebow will travel to New York for a chance to become the 75th recipient of the prestigious award. Ingram may have locked up the award with his three touchdown performance against Florida on national television Saturday night. However, my vote would go to Stanford running back Toby Gerhart. Gerhart leads the FBS in both rushing yards with 1736 and rushing touchdowns with 26.
Stanford running back Toby Gerhart was up to his old tricks Saturday against Notre Dame, rushing for 205 yards and three touchdowns. Gerhart also threw for a score to receiver Ryan Whalen in the second half. That makes 26 rushing touchdowns on the season for Gerhart, with 13 coming in his last four games.ÿHe's as consistent as they come.
Stanford running back Toby Gerhart had 136 yards and four touchdowns in a loss to Cal. Gerhart was a one-man wrecking crew, as quarterback Andrew Luck struggled to a 10-for-30, 157 yard evening. Touchdown Toby is now up to 23 scores on the year heading in to next week's finale against Notre Dame.
Stanford running back Toby Gerhart continued his run through the Pac-10, gaining 178 yards and scoring three times in an upset win over Southern Cal. Wow. Gerhart is now up to 19 touchdowns on the year, as the Cardinal have beaten USC and Oregon in back-to-back weekends. With Cal and Notre Dame remaining, Gerhart could threaten 25 rushing scores.
Stanford running back Toby Gerhart carried 38 times for 223 yards and three touchdowns in an upset win over Oregon Wow. All of the above numbers are season highs, and this guy is a stud. Gerhart has failed to score just once this season, so it will be interesting to see what results await him next week at Southern Cal.
Stanford running back Toby Gerhart ran 27 times for 125 yards and a touchdown against Arizona State. Gerhart's heavy workload proves his ankle was just fine. But just in case, Stanford has next week's bye to make sure Gerhart is 100% heading in to November 7th's matchup against Oregon.
ESPN.com reports that Stanford running back Toby Gerhart (ankle) practiced on Monday, and coach Jim Harbaugh said he "looked like Toby." As Ted Miller reports, ankle injuries are tough to gauge. It's looking like Gerhart will play against ASU, though owners will want to wait for further reports.
ESPN.com's Ted Miller reports that Stanford star running back Toby Gerhart (sprained ankle)ÿis questionable for Saturday's game against Arizona State. If Gerhart is unable to go, there will be a big void in the Stanford offense.ÿ Gerhart has five 100 yard rushing games and just as many games with multiple touchdowns.
Stanford running back Toby Gerhart punched in two fourth quarter touchdowns, but it wasn't enough as they fall to Oregon State 38-28.
Down by 38-14 and needing to air it out, it didn't look good for Gerhart owners, but the two late scores saved the week. Gerhart finished with 96 yards on 20 carries. Only the second game he's been held to under 100 yards this season.
Stanford running back Toby Gerhart rushed for 134 yards and three scores on 24 carries in the 24-16 win over UCLA on Saturday.
Gerhart is no stranger to strong rushing games, but this one was particularly impressive considering that UCLA was ranked 9th in the country in rush defense heading into the game.
Stanford tailback Toby Gerhart was the focal point of the Cardinal offense Saturday in a 34-14 win over Washington, taking 27 carries for a career-high 200 yards and a touchdown. Stanford continues to ride Gerhart for all he's worth as freshman quarterback Andrew Luck progresses under center. No doubt Gerhart remains a solid producer week-in and week-out for the remainder of the 2009 season.
After gaining tough yards last week in a loss to Wake Forest, Stanford senior tailback Toby Gerhart found the going much easier Saturday versus the San Jose State Spartans, taking 24 carries for 113 yards and two touchdowns. Outside of a 17 carry, 82 yard performance last week against the Demon Deacons, Gerhart has proven a statistical beast for a Cardinal squad still trying to break in a freshman quarterback in Andrew Luck.
Stanford wide receiver Ryan Whalen was freshman quarterback Andrew Luck's primary target this afternoon in a seven-point loss on the road to Wake Forest, grabbing nine catches for 123 yards and two touchdowns. Through the first two games of the season, Whalen has nearly halved his total production from last year (508 yards) and doubled his total number of touchdowns (1). Expect Whalen's number to continue to increase as Luck gets comfortable under center, particularly since the junior is truly the only seasoned receiver Stanford boasts on offense in 2009.
Stanford running back Toby Gerhart has his eyes set on rushing for 2000 yards this season. Gerhart considers his goals "reasonable". Opening up with Washington State is certainly a good way to start his quest. Gerhart is one of the top running backs starts for week one.
Stanford veteran quarterback Tavita Pritchard, who has seen redshirt freshman Andrew Luck emerge as the 2009 starter, is taking a team-first attitude, and he'll help the youngster acclimate to the starting job. Pritchard, who led the Cardinal to their stunning 2007 upset at USC, provides Jim Harbaugh with a welcome veteran presence. And while he presents no fantasy value at this point, strange things happen during the course of a college football season.
Despite losing two talented offensive lineman from a group that cleared the way for over 1,100 yards and 15 touchdowns, Stanford running back Toby Gerhart is confident this year's big uglies will be just as good, if not better, than the 2008 version. Gerhart is a pretty sure thing at tailback. He'll get his carries, his yards and his touchdowns in 2009, and he remains a top-15 national back.
Stanford running back Toby Gerhart and Notre Dame wide receiver Golden Tate went undrafted in last week's MLB draft. Gerhart and Tate were two we had been keeping an eye on. Looks like fantasy owners are safe.
Stanford running back Toby Gerhart went undrafted in the first two days (Wednesday) of the MLB draft. The draft concluded on Thursday, but full draft results are impossible to find and I've been told it is 245 rounds long (I'm being a tad sarcastic...but not much), so we are still trying to confirm where/if he was drafted. Either way it is safe to say that Touchdown Toby will be back for the Cardinal.
Fantasy owners will take note of a Mercury News article that states Toby Gerhart will likely not be a high draft selection in the June MLB draft. Barring a major change, it looks like the bruising Stanford running back will back this fall. "As of right now, I'm coming back and playing football, unless something happens different on draft day," Gerhart said.
Running back Toby Gerhart has been spending more time in the batters box than in the backfield this spring for Stanford. As mentioned in a podcast in March, Gerhart and Minnesota wide receiver Eric Decker each have a high probability of being drafted early in MLB's amateur draft in early June.
Stanford quarterback Tavita Prichard enters spring ball as #1 on the depth chart, though based on coach Jim Harbaugh's comments this spot is very much up in the air. Pritchard will have to fend off Andrew Luck and Alex Loukas this spring, and then freshman Josh Nunes will join the fray.
