ATLANTA (AP) Georgia wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell will have arthroscopic surgery on his right knee on Friday and miss the remainder of the team's spring practice. Mitchell was second on the team with 572 yards receiving on 40 catches in 2012. Georgia director of sports medicine Ron Courson says Mitchell is expected to be fully recovered for the start of preseason practice in August. |

Broncos selected Georgia WR Tavarres King with the No. 161 overall pick. King (6-foot 1/4, 189) hauled in 42 Aaron Murray passes as a senior for 950 yards (22.6 YPR) and nine touchdowns. He lit up Alabama for 128 yards on five catches in the SEC title game. With legit speed (4.47 forty) to separate from defensive backs and long arms (33") to create a wide catching radius, King looks every bit the part of an NFL No. 2 or low-end No. 1 receiver. King will slide in as the Broncos' No. 4 receiver.
NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah believes Georgia WR Tavarres King has WR No. 2 potential. Jeremiah tweeted that he would select King in this third-round. The Georgia receiver disappeared at times this season, but added a vertical element to his game. At the Senior Bowl, King stood out among his peers and showed a lot of consistency and separation.
Georgia WR Tavarres King ran an official 4.47 forty, which included a 1.58 10 yard split, at the NFL Combine. King had a great showing during Senior Bowl week, but he disappeared at times during his senior season. The Bulldog added a 36.5 inch vertical jump. Expect a day three selection.

Georgia WR Tavarres King tweeted that he has been invited to the Senior Bowl. King has shown some vertical playmaking ability this season for the Bulldogs but failed to generate consistent numbers. The senior receiver group is a bit weak at the top, but King should be selected int he draft's third day in April.
Georgia senior WR Tavarres King showed downfield playmaking ability in the Bulldogs opener against Buffalo, hauling in six catches for 117 yards and a touchdown. King has been overshadowed throughout his career, but if this opener was any indication the senior could be in for a big year. Junior quarterback Aaron Murray targeted King often, and the two connected on a 63 yard play. King has excellent straight-line speed, but we will see if he can keep up this kind of production against stiffer competition.
Seeking more playing time as a senior, Carlton Thomas has decided to transfer - destination unknown - out of Athens. This will not hurt the depth chart much. While Thomas appeared in 27 games in his Bulldogs career, coach Mark Richt has six scholarship running backs. Included are a couple of younger players ready for an increased workload behind last season's leading rusher, Isaiah Crowell. In a 2011 season in which he was suspended for three games due to disciplinary reasons, Thomas had 127 of his 361 yards against Auburn in November. He finished his Georgia career 159-725-4.
Tavarres King had a career-high 206 yards receiving in Georgia's 33-30 3OT Outback Bowl loss to Michigan State. King had 6 receptions and one TD, which covered 80 yards. His previous career-best was 109 yards against Kentucky in 2009. King obliterated his season high, which was a 65-yard effort against Coastal Carolina on Sept. 17.
Georgia running back Richard Samuel (ankle) is out for the remainder of the regular season. Samuel had a big fourth quarter and scored the game-winning touchdown against Florida, but injured his ankle on the last play of the game. The news comes on the same day that Georgia announced that three other RBs would not be playing against New Mexico State. Isaiah Crowell, Carlton Thomas, and Ken Malcome have been suspended for violating team policy.
Georgia RB Caleb King has been ruled academically ineligible for the 2011 season. King would have been a senior this fall, so it's likely that he'll enter the NFL's Supplemental Draft. With Georgia already losing RB Washaun Ealy to Jacksonville State via tranfser, the Dawgs are suddenly thin in the backfield. Incoming freshman Isaiah Crowell now looks like the go-to ground option for UGA, and although he's supremely talented and will be running behind a strong offensive line, he'll have quite a task ahead as he looks to replace the 1200+ yards and 13 touchdowns racked up by King and Ealy last season.
Rumors are flying that running back Caleb King and offensive tackle A.J. Harmon may be ruled academically ineligible this fall. Obviously it is just rumor at this point, however, King has had academic issues in the past. Spring semesters are also coming to a close around the country, so the timing is probably right for news like this to start to break. If he is indeed not eligible, it only boosts the stock of freshman Isaiah Crowell.
In the latest scrimmage for the Georgia Bulldogs, the defense was beat up which allowed the offense to put the hurt on them even more. Aaron Murray threw for 125 yards and a score while backup Hutson Mason had 192 yards, three touchdowns, and two picks. Wide receiver Tavarres King caught three passes, one of which was a 45-yard score. Murray should be a top tier BCS quarterback while King has some big sleeper potential.
Georgia is moving tight end Bruce Figgins to fullback for the 2011 season Georgia is so loaded at tight end (Orson Charles, Aron White and top TE recruit Jay Rome) that it isn't even funny. Playing a little fullback will at least help Figgins make an impact.
Georgia receiver/quarterback Logan Gray will transfer at the end of the semester. "I will graduate in May from UGA with my degree in Speech Communication," Gray said. "I plan on playing my last year of football while pursuing my Master's degree at another school, most likely close to home, where my family can attend all of my games." Gray was one of the top recruits of the Bulldogs' 2007 class but just could never find a fit. With National Signing Day just hours away, Gray is a reminder that not all top recruits pan out. In what is not much of a surprise, Georgia wide receiver A.J. Green has decided to forgo his senior year and declare for the NFL Draft. Green is arguably the best receiver in the country and is widely considered a top 10 pick in the upcoming draft. Green will be missed as any All-American would be, but there is plenty of talent in the wings for the Bulldogs.
Georgia running back Caleb King as well as cornerback Derek Owens and offensive tackle A.J. Harmon will not travel to Memphis for the Liberty Bowl after being declared academically ineligible. With King out, Washuan Ealey's stock just went up.
Georgia junior wide receiver A.J. Green has denied an earlier report that he's made up his mind and will enter the 2011 NFL Draft. "Haven't even made a decision yet," Green tweeted early on Thursday. We don't expect an official decision to come until after the Liberty Bowl on Dec. 31. But, odds are high that he will forgo his senior year.
It has been speculated that Georgia running back Caleb King may be declared academically ineligible for the Autozone Liberty Bowl. "We'll know on all that for sure (Wednesday)," said Richt. "I'm not going to make any comment. I’ll probably be on vacation tomorrow. Maybe at the bowl site, you can ask me." Based on Richt's comments, King is obviously skating on thin ice. If he's out, Washaun Ealey will get extra reps.

Georgia receiver A.J. Green says he won't decide on whether he will stay or enter the 2011 NFL Draft until after Georgia's bowl game - if they play in one. A key factor, however, is the NFL's labor agreement. "That’s really gonna play a big part in my decision,” Green said. “Because if they’re talking about a lockout, there’s really no point in me leaving.” The NFL collective bargaining agreement is set to expire next March. Underclassmen need to declare their intentions by Jan. 15. It is unlikely there will be a new CBA in place by then. And if not, this will be a huge factor in how many underclassmen decide to leave school early.
Georiga wide receiver A.J. Green may have just cemented his jump to the NFL after coming up big against Auburn. Green hauled in nine catches for 164 yards and two scores as the Bulldogs fell to the Tigers. If you have him on your roster, start him. If you have him in a keeper league, hope that he comes back.
Georgia will have wide receivers Kris Durham and Logan Gray back for the game against Auburn. Durham was out with a bruised lung and Gray with an injured jaw but both should be available against the Tigers. Neither Durham or Gray is much of a fantasy option but their return does help the depth behind A.J. Green and Tavarres King.
As the Bulldogs put it on Idaho State, wide receiver A.J. Green found himself open enough to snag six passes for 103 yards and two touchdowns. Green is becoming a better fantasy prospect because of the maturation of his quarterback is a solid starter every week.
Georgia wide receiver Kris Durham was the star receiver against Vanderbilt as he caught four passes for 112 yards and a touchdown while A.J. Green only managed 64 yards and a score. This is an obvious situation of a team focusing on Green which just leaves players like Durham wide open.

Georgia wide receiver A.J. Green has been suffering from leg cramps and has not been full speed this week in practice. “We’re hoping that he can make it through,” coach Mark Richt said. “Even (Tuesday) he was not full speed, and I was like, ‘Oh man.’ It was making me nervous." The last thing you want to hear is that your game-breaking wideout has leg issues. However, we fully expect him to play this week against Tennessee.
“I don’t know yet. But I do feel like I owe some of the fans some more stuff, just missing those four games. So I don’t know,” Georgia receiver A.J. Green said when asked if he would leave early for the NFL. “Like I said, I’m gonna sit down with my family whenever the time comes and make the best decision for me.” I understand why reporters ask the question, but do they really think Green is going to say "boom, outta here" during the middle of the season?
A.J. Green faced off against Colorado in his first game back from a four game suspension and picked up right where he left off. Green caught seven passes for 119 yards and two touchdowns in the loss. Green even added a 40-yard rush on the night. Green has shown no signs of rust and should be in everyone's starting lineup from this point on.
Georgia wide receiver Kris Durham is currently listed as questionable for the game against Colorado this Saturday. Durham suffered a neck stinger against Mississippi State last week. This would be a huge blow if star receiver A.J. Green was not eligible to play, but with Green out there, Durham's loss will not be felt.

The Bulldogs rushing attack could use a set of fresh legs to help ease the load on Washaun Ealey. Do not expect a 50/50 split but King will get some touches.
With star receiver A.J. Green out serving a suspension, the Georgia Bulldogs needed some receivers to step up, and against Arkansas those were Kris Durham and Tavarres King. Durham finished the night as Aaron Murray's favorite target catching five passes for 101 yards while King added four catches for 91 yards and a score. Green will still be the go-to guy when he comes around but he will not be the only option anymore.
The NCAA has upheld its decision to suspend Georgia wide receiver A.J. Green for four games after selling a game jersey. Green is a deep ball threat and will be sorely missed again this weekend against Arkansas.
Georgia wide receiver Kris Durham has thrived while A.J. Green sits in timeout. Hes's gone for 8-159-1 in two games while emerging as Aaron Murray's security blanket. And the Atlanta Journal-Constitution expects Durham to still be a key factor upon Green's return. Durham is a solid option in SEC leagues, though we do look for his production to take a hit when Green does make it back.
Washaun Ealey had a great game back from suspension as he ran 19 times for 79 yards against the Gamecocks. Caleb King did not play at all. Ealey is the main man in the backfield and should easily pass 1,000 yards rushing this season.
The NCAA has ruled that Georgia wide receiver A.J. Green, will need to miss four total games before being eligible to play after selling a game jersey to a sport agent. Green has already missed the season opener and barring an appeal, will have to miss three more game. Georgia has said that they will appeal the ruling but until Green hits the field, look for Tavarres King to try and pick up the slack.

Georgia running back coach Bryan McClendon told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that "Right now, it’s probably Caleb [as the starter] because he has been more consistent in his pass-blocking throughout camp." The fact that Washaun Ealey is dealing with an arrest stemming from a hit-and-run, King may see his workload increased against the Cajuns.
If there was any concern that A.J. Green's production would go down with yet another new quarterback, those worries were dispelled in the Bulldogs' first scrimmage. Green caught five balls for 141 yards and two scores. It is no surprise that regardless of who is throwing to him, Green is a star and should be a WR1 in BCS-only leagues.
Georgia quarterback-turned-wide receiver Logan Gray is making a nice early transition to his new spot. Coach Mark Richt says, "I like what I'm seeing out of Logan Gray. I'm just impressed that he's this far along this quickly." Gray shouldn't receive much fantasy consideration to start. After all this is an offense that features A.J. Green and a couple of talented backs. Factor in a green quarterback in Aaron Murray, and it's hard to see Gray blowing up. And Richt didn't rule out a return to QB should Murray suffer an injury.
Head coach Mark Richt and offensive coordinator Mike Bobo know who their top receiver is in A.J. Green. What they don't know is who will be lining up on the opposite side of the field. The Lexington Herald Leaader, talks about the prospects in Marlon Brown, Rantavious Wooten, Kris Durham, Tavarres King, and even incoming freshman Michael Bennett. The top receiver will be Green and I project tight end Orson Charles being the next option for Aaron Murray but the third receiver is still valuable in SEC-only leagues.
TMZ is reporting that Georgia wide receiver A.J. Green is a part of the investigation into the Pimpgate Agent Party down in Miami, though Green says he "was home that weekend." Sounds like this story will not go away anytime soon, and the unfortunate Georgia summer continues.
Running back Dontavius Jackson has decided to pursue his football future at somewhere other than The University of Georgia. He'll transfer following the summer semester. Jackson was suspended after his arrest for DUI this week, a run-in that continues a rough summer for the Bulldogs.
Georgia coach Mark Richt has suspended running back Dontavius Jackson for at least six games and receiver Tavarres King for at least one game. The pair could be suspended for longer depending on the outcome of Richt's investigation into the case.
The booze was flowing in Athens once again as Georgia running back Dontavius Jackson was arrested and charged with DUI, leaving a scene of an accident and other traffic violations early Saturday morning. Receiver Tavarres King was also arrested and charged with underage possession of alcohol. King had a solid spring and is expected to be a major contributor this fall. We await word on their punishments.
The Atlanta Journal Constitution is reporting that Damon Evans is out as Georgia's athletic director, according to a source. Getting busted for DUI and having a woman who is not your wife in the car when doing so is not the message Georgia wants to send.
Georgia Athletic Director Damon Evans was arrested on suspicion of a DUI Wednesday night. While the football team is trying to return to glory, this is indeed a blackmark on the program and the school.
According to teammate Brandon Boykin, the most improved player for the Georgia Bulldogs is wide receiver Tavarres King. King has bulked up in the offseason and Boykin says that "you can just tell his releases are a lot quicker and he’s working with his hands a lot better." Tavarres King could very well be the receiving threat opposite A.J. Green that the Bulldogs have missed in the past few years. Consider King a nice sleeper option in BCS and SEC-only leagues.
Matt Hayes' of the Sporting News lists Georgia's A.J. Green as his top game-changing wide receiver. Hayes says Green is: "The most complete receiver in the game. A gifted, dangerous player who hasn't nearly reached his potential because of uncertainty at the quarterback spot." Hayes' analysis is spot on. Green is one of the top deep threats in the country. Along with the uncertainty at quarterback, Green is not in an offense that is as wide open as some of the others on the list... and that hurts his college fantasy football value.
With Logan Gray moving to the flanker position, Georgia wide receiver coach Tony Ball says that "he’s got 75 to 80 percent of it pretty much taken care of because he at least knows what to do." Gray is behind seven other scholarship players at receiver, and thus should not be considered too highly in any league.
Incoming quarterback recruit Hutson Mason is on campus and already impressing teammates. "“He hit me in stride every single time,” said receiver Kris Durham. “I was very, very impressed with him.” With Zach Mettenberger booted from the team and Logan Gray likely moving to receiver, Mason is going to have to learn the offense quick. One big hit to Aaron Murray and he could be on the field.
Georgia quarterback Logan Gray has decided to stay at Georgia and not seek a transfer to another school. Faced with the likelihood of playing second fiddle to Aaron Murray at quarterback, Gray will also give playing wide receiver a shot.

Green has been getting reps on punt returns this spring and may add returns to his repertoire this fall. “The bottom line is, is he the best at that skill," coach Mike Richt said. "If he is, then we’ll let him play. Or if there are certain times we feel like it’s important to get him in there and do that, we might do that, too.” It is not a given that Green will return kicks this fall, there are a number of other candidates also being looked at, including running backs Washaun Ealey and Carlton Thomas.

Gray, who likely sees a Georgia future watching Aaron Murray playing quarterback, met with coach Mark Richt to chat about where he'll go from here. Among the names to line up next to A.J. Ealey and King both missed several games due to injury last year, but still managed to tally over five yards per carry when healthy. Running behind an offensive line returning all five full time starters should help their campaign.
"There is not a clear-cut No. 1 guy going into the spring," Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo said about the pending quarterback race. Aaron Murray and Logan Gray should be considered the front runners. But strong armed Zach Mettenberger is in the mix as well. This one looks like it will drag out until just before opening day.
With Joe Cox graduating, Georgia is in need of a new starting quarterback. The candidates that will battle it out this spring are sophomore Logan Gray, redshirt freshman Aaron Murray and redshirt freshman Zach Mettenberger. Gray has the most experience, serving has Cox's backup last season. Mettenberger is a big kid with a strong arm, but my money is on Murray, who is arguably the best all-around quarterback of the three.
Georgia's Richard Samuel will switch from running back to linebacker this spring. The move will likely be permanent as the Bulldogs have some depth at running back.
In breaking down the lack of depth Georgia has at wide receiver, Bill King of the Junkyard Blawg speculates that 2010 could be A.J. Green's last year as a Bulldog. We agree with King's assessment. Assuming he stays healthy, we don't see Green returning for his senior year. Green is ranked as the 4th best NFL Draft prospect for 2011 by some guys at NFLDraftDayInsider.com.
"We’re glad he’s back because even if he doesn’t get eight balls for 160 yards, he’s one of those guys where his presence kind of makes people gameplan towards him," Georgia quarterback Joe Cox said of wide receiver A.J. The Aggies have the 111th ranked pass defense, making Green a solid fantasy play this bowl season.
