Troy head coach Larry Blakeney has already said that "You don't just replace a player like Jerrel Jernigan with one guy" but the Trojans certainly have some interesting options to fill his cleats. Running back Chris Anderson, who rushed for 388 yards and caught 119 yards last season, has been moved to the 'H' receiver as well as JUCO transfer Corey Johnson, the brother of former USC receiver Ronald Johnson. Whoever wins the starting 'H' position will certainly not put up Jernigan's numbers, but he should get over 60 catches and a few designed runs which makes him a decent fantasy option in most leagues.
Much maligned receiver Josh Jarboe has signed with Arkansas State. Jarboe was booted from Oklahoma, couldn't stick at Troy and will now try to keep his nose clean with the Red Wolves. He spent 2010 at community college so he should be eligible to play in 2011.
Troy wide receiver Jerrel Jernigan showed us his versatility once again as he scored on the ground and through the air against Ohio in the New Orleans Bowl. Jernigan rushed the ball three times for 16 yards and a score while also catching seven passes for 48 yards and another touchdown. Jernigan is a phenomenal athlete and football player and should be seen playing on Sundays soon.
Troy senior tailback DuJuan Harris sung quite a swan song against Ohio as he rushed for 105 yards and a score in his last collegiate game. Harris was a 1,000 yard back a couple years ago but the Trojans like to take a committee approach to rushing the ball so he was never able to reach that milestone again.
Troy wide receiver Jerrel Jernigan was all over the field against Western Kentucky as he caught six passes for 89 yards while also rushing the ball six times for 49 more yards. Jernigan didn't reach the end zone but still cranked out some good numbers.
After missing the Louisiana-Lafayette game with an ankle injury, Troy running back DuJuan Harris should be ready for the game against Florida International. Harris is a former 1,000 yard rusher but has been splitting carries with Chris Anderson and Shawn Southward and therefore has little fantasy value.
Troy wide receiver Jerrel Jernigan did it all against North Texas. Jernigan rushed for 89 yards, caught 57 yards, and even passed for 18 yards and a touchdown. Jernigan may have spotty performance, but you have to go with a player when his coaches gameplan ways to get him the ball.
Troy wide receiver Jerrel Jernigan was injured late in the game against Louisiana-Monroe and head coach Larry Blakeney says "Only one I’m worried about (injury-wise) that I know about is Jerrel." There is some concern that he may have suffered a concussion but there is no official word as of now.
Troy running back DuJuan Harris (ankle) sat out his second consecutive game. No word on when Harris may return to action.
Troy quarterback Jamie Hampton suffered a broken leg in last night's game against Middle Tennessee State. Hampton is scheduled to have surgery today. Hampton has been taking a few snaps from starter Corey Robinson, mainly in a rushing capacity. With Hampton out, we could see more of wide receiver Jerrel Jernigan at Wildcat.
Troy's Jerrel Jernigan had a huge day as he hauled in nine catches for 203 yards and a touchdown. Jernigan also carried the ball six times for 38 yards. Jernigan is the star of and offense that should shred Sun Belt defenses for the rest of the year.
Troy wide receiver Jerrel Jernigan caught 10 passes for 87 yards and a touchdown and returned a kickoff 100 yards for another score in a loss to Oklahoma State. Jernigan has a ton of talent and will be looking to find the end zone more this season. He's a terrific option with UAB up next on the schedule.
It was thought that Jonathan Chandler would take over the Wildcat duties for the Troy Trojans but against Bowling Green it was wide receiver Jerrel Jernigan with six rushes for 70 yards and a touchdown while also grabbing five catches for 28 yards. One must hope that his receiving numbers will improve, but the fact that he is still rushing the ball keeps Jernigan a decent WR3.
Troy coach Larry Blakeney is keeping his choice for starting quarterback, Jamie Hampton or Corey Robinson, close to his vest. And he won't announce his decision until gametime. The Troy quarterback spot provides a great deal of fantasy potential, provided there's a clear-cut starter. This certainly doesn't appear to be the case.
Troy wide receiver Jerrel Jernigan will lose some Wildcat carries to quarterback-turned-receiver Jonathan Chandler but according to coach Larry Blakeney, "(Jernigan) can play inside or outside at receiver, and he can play quarterback in the 'Wildcat'" and that "we've got him a package at almost every position he lines up". Jernigan is one of the most dynamic players in the Sun Belt and is the kind of player that coaches look for ways to get the ball into his hands.
Troy senior tailback DuJuan Harris considers last year's stat line of 583 yards and 10 touchdowns as a disappointment because the previous year he tallied 1,077 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns. Harris says "I'm very motivated, I've got to work twice as hard now. I have a son now. I'm not just playing for me." Harris will continue to share carries with Shawn Southward so he is only one to consider in Sun Belt only leagues or as the occasional bye week filler.
Quarterback Corey Robinson was 6-of-12 passing for for 68 yards in Saturday's scrimmage. Jamie Hampton, working with the second team, was 2-of-5 for 54 yards. "We have to figure out what is best for the team," coach Larry Blackney said. " Which guy, and what role each guy will play. I am not afraid to play two, I have done it before. ...I don’t doubt that we will wind up having to play both guys." This is obviously not music to fantasy owners' ears. Hampton is losing his grip on sleeper status. Avoid this situation unless something drastic happens.
Jerrel Jernigan has been the resident Wildcat quarterback for the Troy Trojans for the past two years but those duties will now fall to Jonathan Chandler. Chandler was a dual-threat quarterback who is no longer in contention as a quarterback and has moved to wide receiver. In light of his experience at quarterback, he is an ideal option to run the Wildcat. This certainly hurts Jernigan's stock a bit but expect him to get more receiving work now that he will be operating solely as a wide receiver.
Former Oklahoma Sooner recruit/problem child wide receiver Josh Jarboe has been dismissed from the Troy program for a violation of team rules. Larry Blakeney tells The Dothan Eagle that freshman Jamel Johnson should see more playing time now that Jarboe has moved on. Not sure if there's another program that will take a shot on Mr. Jarboe.
Troy coach Larry Blakeney really likes both of his quarterbacks, Jamie Hampton and Corey Robinson, telling The Dothan Eagle, "I really like them both, and our team likes them both." Well this sounds like a worst-case fantasy scenario. The Troy offense should score a boatload of points, but there's a quarterback battle. And there's also a coach who's torn like The Bachelorette with only one rose to give. So even when one starts the game the other will likely be getting those "go get ready and throw" winks.
Troy head coach Larry Blakeney, when talking about wide receiver Jason Bruce, says "He’s a guy that could really have a big year for us". Bruce was working as the 'H' receiver but was behind star Jerrel Jernigan. Since he has moved to flanker he has been really impressing. Bruce is one to consider as a sleeper in small leagues.
According to Troy offensive coordinator Kenny Edenfield, the battle between Jamie Hampton and Corey Robinson for the starting quarterback job will end "as soon as one can separate from the other." Hampton appears to have the leg up based on experience, though this is a battle where either can quarterback can post fantasy-worthy numbers on a weekly basis.
The Dothan Eagle reports that Troy tight end Matt Stidham (shoulder) is fully healed for camp. Stidham has only caught two passes on his career, so he's likely not on your fantasy radar. But it's still nice to hear that he's healthy, right?
Troy wide receiver Jerrel Jernigan told The Dothan Eagle that he has high hopes for the upcoming season, one being a desire to nab 1,200 or 1,300 yards receiving. Jernigan posted over 1,100 receiving yards in 2009, so his goal is certainly within reach. Where owners would like to see the greatest improvement is in the touchdown category. In two years he's only posted 11 scores from scrimmage, a number we feel he could match in 2010 alone.
Wide receiver Josh Jarboe “has had his best spring practice," and Chip Reeves “could be our best receiver if he does the right things and if he’s eligible,” Troy coach Larry Blakeney remarked. Jarboe, if you recall, was a high profile recruit who was headed to Oklahoma before his Youtube rap career landed him in hot water. There appears to be no shortage of talent in the passing game for Troy, we just wonder how the offense will respond to the loss of offensive coordinator Neal Brown.
The Troy quarterback race has be pared down to two: Jamie Hampton and Corey Robinson. “I think we’ve got two guys that can win for us,” coach Larry Blakeney said. “Both have abilities and good, strong personalities. I’m not ready to say either one of them is the starter. They’ll work through the summer and some into fall camp before they know.” We'd be pretty shocked if Hampton, the former starter before blowing out his knee, doesn't win the job. But if he doesn't, it is a pretty good sign Robinson is solid quarterback as well.
Troy quarterback Jamie Hampton, a candidate for the starting quarterback job, had a good day during Saturday's scrimmage. The lefty completed 18-of-22 passes for 204 yards and two scores. Hampton is the favorite to take over for Levi Brown, at which point he'd become a fantasy factor with the right weekly matchup.
Troy quarterback Jamie Hampton, the favorite to win the starting job after missing all of 2009 due to a knee injury, tells The Troy Messenger that he's "probably two to three months away from being 100%." Hampton went on to say that he's close, which is good news as a healthy Hampton will certainly be a fantasy factor.
Despite losing offensive coordinator Neal Brown, Troy head coach Larry Blakeney still feels good about his offense. “Having the quarterback back is a key thing,” Blakeney said. “And then we have some guys who have played a little bit, which should make the situation a little easier.” After sitting out the 2009 season to let his surgically repaired knee heal, Jamie Hampton will return to his role as the Trojans' starting quarterback. With receiver Jerrell Jernigan and running backs Shawn Southward and DuJuan Harris also returning, Blakeney can breathe a little easier.
Troy quarterback Levi Brown nearly hit the 500 mark for passing yards, completing 27-of-36 passes for a school-record 477 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception. Brown has seven games of more than 300 yards passing, three of those being north of 400 yards, and over 3,500 yards passing for the season.
Troy quarterback Levi Brown posted his third consecutive 350 yard plus passing game against Louisiana-Monroe this week, torching them for 378 yards and four touchdowns. Coming into this week's game against Louisiana-Monroe, Troy quarterback Levi Brown was only 30% owned. His totals for the past three games stand at 1,238 yards and eight touchdowns, and he has topped the 300-yard passing mark in five of eight games this season. With Western Kentucky's 120th ranked defense on the schedule for next week, Levi Brown should make for an amazing spot start.
Troy quarterback Levi Brown threw for 378 yards and four touchdowns in the win over Louisiana-Monroe. Brown has recovered from a relatively slow start to the 2009 campaign, and he now has thrown seven touchdowns in his last two outings with nary an interception to be found. All the men just call him sir.
In his third game passing with more than 300 yards, Troy quarterback Levi Brown lit up the Florida International secondary to the tune of 391 yards and three touchdowns. Brown has tallied 937 yards, six touchdowns, and zero interceptions in his last three games, and gets to feast on the North Texas defense allowing 211 yards per game and 10 passing touchdown on the season next.
Troy running back DuJuan Harris limped off the field late in the fourth quarter in Saturday's win over UAB.
Harris, who rushed for 61 yards and a score, appeared to hurt his knee.
Troy has put a gag order on wide receiver Josh Jarboe, but that doesn't mean they don't think highly of the Oklahoma transfer. Quite the opposite. "He has a great deal of God-given ability;" receivers coach Shayne Wasden said. "How hard he works at it will determine how good he will be, but he certainly has the tools." Jarboe is a tough one to peg. He has a ton of talent and he fits the big fish in a small pond theory. Yet off-the-field issues have plagued him in the past and he has yet to play a down of college football. He's certainly someone we could be talking about on the waiver wire early in the season.
Harassment charges against Troy's Josh Jarboe have been dropped and the much-maligned (but talented) wide receiver should be ready to go this fall. Jarboe should make an immediate impact for the Trojans this season. Special thanks to Graham Watson from ESPN for looking into this for us.
Troy quarterback Jamie Hampton will redshirt the 2009 season in order to rest his surgically repaired knee. The move has allowed Levi Brown, who filled in for Hampton after he was injured against Florida Atlantic, to concentrate on being the starter come this fall. Don't forget about Hampton when you're filling out your 2010 draft board.
While speaking of the quarterback job Troy head coach Larry Blakeney said, "The quarterback job is Levi?s to lose and he has gotten off to a good start in the spring." Levi Brown took over after Jamie Hampton went down with an injury. Brown was impressive when afforded the chance, throwing 15 touchdowns in his seven starts. With the dynamic Jerrel Jernigan and others returning, Mr. Brown could push towards 30 touchdowns in 2009.
