| Michigan's Brady Hoke: Notre Dame 'chickening out' |
|---|
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) Michigan coach Brady Hoke has taken the Notre Dame rivalry up a notch. Hoke made a crowd chuckle on Monday at West Michigan Sports Commission luncheon by saying the Fighting Irish are "chickening out" from the storied series. Notre Dame exercised an option in its football-scheduling contract with Michigan last fall to cancel games from 2015-2017. |

Like Dayne Crist, tight end Mike Ragone could follow Charlie Weis to Kansas. Weis recruited Ragone, who was a freshman with the Irish in 2007 and remained at South Bend through last season. Staying healthy has not come easy, however. The tight end tore an ACL in 2008 and missed the entire season. Last Sept. 10 against Michigan, Ragone again tore an ACL and was sidelined for the duration. Because he missed virtually two full seasons, Ragone has a year of eligibility remaining and, as a graduate, may transfer to Kansas where he could play immediately. Ragone is primarily a blocking tight end with only 11 career receptions.
For Notre Dame receiver Michael Floyd, 2011 has been a season of transformation. The star receiver will play his last game at Notre Dame Stadium on Saturday. That's saying something considering it looked like Floyd may not have played at all this season given his brushes with the law. Floyd changed the routes he ran off the field and he has been productive running them on the field with 77-922-7.
WR Michael Floyd will rejoin the Irish after serving an indefinite suspension stemming from a March DUI arrest. Malcolm Floyd will be back for the Irish in 2011 after Notre Dame announced that they will officially reinstate the wide receiver. Serving an indefinite suspension following a DUI arrest, Floyd has taken all the necessary steps to prove he has learned from his mistakes. "I am very pleased with the progress Michael has made since March. That is why I am comfortable reinstating him to our football team," Coach Brian Kelly said. Floyd will look to prove this progress on the football field as he has already been named to the Biletnikoff and Walter Camp Award watch lists.
Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd was arrested and charged with driving under the influence at 4am Sunday morning. This is Floyd's second alcohol-related offense in the last 14 months. The Irish kick off spring practice on Wednesday. I'm sure we'll hear from coach Brian Kelly between now and then.
Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd just gave Irish Nation a reason to believe in 2011 as he has announced he is returning to the school for his senior season.ÿ Floyd is the team's top playmaker and will help them to build on the momentum from the end of this season.
Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd was the star of the Sun Bowl as Notre Dame beat Miami. Floyd had six grabs for 109 yards and two scores. Floyd is a superstar receiver no matter who is throwing to him and Irish Nation can only hope he comes back for his senior year.
In what can be deemed slightly uncharacteristic, Notre Dame rolled up nearly 200 yards rushing as the Irish topped Miami in the Sun Bowl. The Irish ground swell was led by Robert Hughes who carried the ball 27 times for 81 yards and a score while Cierre Wood added another 81 yards and a score on just 12 carries. Out of the Leprechaun formation, Theo Riddick added another eight carries for 32 yards. You will never confuse Notre Dame with Wisconsin but Brian Kelly does like to run the ball more than people think and he has a solid group to work with next year in Wood and Jonas Gray.
Notre Dame wide receiver Duval Kamara did not travel to El Paso with the team for "personal reasons" and will therefore miss the final game of his career. Kamara has had a lackluster career and should be easily replaced by either TJ Jones or John Goodman.
Notre Dame tight end Kyle Rudolph and wide receiver Michael Floyd have asked to be evaluated by the Draft Advisory Board but head coach Brian Kelly says "We are heavily recruiting them. We are recruiting them for Notre Dame." Losing Rudolph would hurt for next year but with Tyler Eifert, the Irish are set. However, losing Floyd would be a huge hit as he is the team's top playmaker.
Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd caught 11 balls for 86 yards and a touchdown in the win over USC. The touchdown gives Floyd 10 on the season and 26 on his career to date.
Notre Dame running back Armando Allen will miss the rest of the season with torn cartilage in his hip. The injury will likely require surgery. Look for Cierre Wood to lead a struggling Irish ground attack.
Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd performs no matter who throws him the ball as he caught 11 passes for 104 yards and two touchdowns in a close loss to Tulsa. Even with Tommy Rees at the helm a healthy Floyd remains a solid start.
"(Tuesday) was my first practice since I messed up my hamstring, and the only thing that kind of held me back was stamina," Notre Dame receiver Michael Floyd said. "I was fully padded, did everything with the team. I think I contributed more than what doctors wanted me to, so my body felt good." Barring a setback in practice, we fully expect Floyd to play this week against Tulsa.
Signs are pointing to Notre Dame receiver Michael Floyd (hamstring) returning to the lineup this week against Tulsa. "We are obviously going to move (Floyd) around," coach Brian Kelly said. "And again he's feeling better. And we want to make sure that he's able to play at full speed when we get him back. So, again, I think we'll manage that during the week and see how he feels." Kelly probably let the cat out of the bag with his talk of moving Floyd around. It's hard to image Kelly game-planning for a player that is questionable to play.
Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd participated in practice on Thursday in a limited capacity. "Michael moved around today -- looked pretty good," coach Brian Kelly said after practice. "He said he felt pretty good. We didn't ask him to do too much." I suspect Floyd will play this week, but he still remains a risk. Whether or not to start the playmaker depends on your other options.
Notre Dame running back Armando Allen (hip) was back at practice Tuesday and says "it's pretty set in stone" he will play Saturday against Navy. Good news for the Irish. The receiving corps is ailing and they may need to lean more on the run game this week.
Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd is nursing a hamstring injury and according to head coach Brian Kelly, is a game-time decision as to whether or not he will play against Navy. If the Irish take the field without their top receiver, it would drastically effect the offense and will require players like T.J. Jones and Tyler Eifert to step up.
Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd had a field day against Western Michigan with nine catches for 157 yards and three touchdowns. Without Kyle Rudolph, Floyd's stock has gone up even more.
Notre Dame running back Armando Allen missed practice on Tuesday due to a hip flexor. ''He's going to dress and he's going to want to play,'' coach Brian Kelly said after practice. ''He told me that he's got to play." Going up against a porous Broncos' rush defense, this looked like a game Allen could rack up some fantasy points. But now he is too much of a risk to play.
Notre Dame running back Robert Hughes is currently listed as number two on the team's depth chart behind starter Armando Allen. Taking a look at the context, you will notice that Jonas Gray is questionable against Boston College with a groin injury and Cierre Wood is not being cast aside but is just young and the team does not want him to be pressured. Hughes is a good fit against Boston College as he is a physical back who can also help a lot in pass protection.
Notre Dame running back Armando Allen hobbled off the field with an apparent leg injury but was able to return to the game later. He finished with 15 carries for 49 yards in the loss to Stanford. Allen has been a decent surprise this year racking up 302 rushing yards through four games. The Irish aren't running the football that well as a team but Allen is still posting decent numbers. He could have some huge games ahead as the Irish look to establish more of a running attack.
Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd had eight catches for 110 yards in the loss to Stanford. The talented playmaker has 24 catches for 339 yards and two touchdowns through four games, but owners were probably hoping for more after using a high selection on him. He is still a WR1 in all leagues as the passing game in South Bend isn't the problem.
Notre Dame star wide receiver Michael Floyd was again held out of the end zone as he nabbed five balls for 66 yards in the loss to Michigan. Floyd has been the victim of a whole bunch of defensive coverage and quarterbacks who must think the junior is nine feet tall. Mount Floyd is poised for an eruption, and a questionable Michigan State secondary is next on the schedule.
When Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly saw Michael Floyd, he thought he was a bit overrated but Floyd has put in a lot of work to make himself a more polished receiver and quarterback Dayne Crist has noticed. "He’s got the potential to score on any given play, and that’s not an exaggeration", says Crist. Floyd is a top tier receiver who should put up even bigger numbers than last year in the new offense.
ESPN's Brian Bennett brings up an interesting stat in his latest blog: Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly hasn't had a 1000-yard rusher since 2005 when he was at Central Michigan. Coach Kelly isn't worried though. "I would be very surprised if we were not a solid team running the football," Kelly said. If he could have stayed healthy, Armando Allen would have surely cracked the century mark last season. And we see him flirting with the mark again this season. Keep in mind Allen is also very good out of the backfield and will be heavily used as a pass catcher.
“In 20 years, I have not had a player who has worked as hard as Michael Floyd has worked,” coach Brian Kelly said. "I'm not easily impressed. He's been outstanding." Kelly noted that Floyd was not a precise route runner when he arrived and he had a lot of work to do to become more than just a deep/jump ball threat. Based on Kelly's comments we can assume he's become a more complete receiver and should be one of the most dangerous players in the country.
Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly has three candidates in mind to run the Wildcat formation. Kelly is looking at Armando Allen, Theo Riddick, and even tight end Kyle Rudolph. If Rudolph is getting carries out of the Wildcat, that just increases his already high draft stock.
Notre Dame tight end Mike Ragone was released from the hospital after being treated for heat illness suffered during practice. Ragone is an athletic tight end but will be hard pressed to see much playing time in Brian Kelly's spread offense while sitting behind Kyle Rudolph on the depth chart.
Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd has really taken the offseason to hit the weight room and focus on football. Position coach Tony Alford said of Floyd, "He came back in great shape, he’s making plays. He’s being a leader. He’s pushing himself to get better. What he has to do this fall is do all that every play, every day." Magic eight ball says: All signs point to Floyd having a huge year; draft him as a WR1 in any league.
With Notre Dame kicking off fall camp on Saturday coach Brian Kelly laid out his team's strengths and weaknesses. Running back and offensive line were at the top of his strength's list, while he listed experience at quarterback as a big question mark. Quarterback Dayne Crist has a lot of upside, but running back Armando Allen is probably a better bet to be a week in and week out fantasy producer. Don't overlook Allen on draft day, especially in PPR leagues.
Speaking at the ACC's Media Day in Greensboro, Maryland linebacker Alex Wujciak singled out tight end Will Yeatman as a potential breakout player for the Terps. "He came in, worked out with us, and he's huge," Wujciak said. "He's the biggest tight end I've ever seen." Yeatman was once ahead of Kyle Rudolph on the Notre Dame depth before his thirst for adult beverages forced a transplant to the Maryland lacrosse team. Listed at 6 foot 6, 250 pounds, he is in fact, a big dude. Talent isn't a concern here, and the Terps certainly need a second pass catcher opposite Torrey Smith. In ACC leagues, there is no reason not to gamble on Yeatman once the top few TE's are gone.
ESPN's Brian Bennett ranks wide receiver Michael Floyd as Notre Dame's #1 player: "The only thing standing between Floyd and absolute superstardom is health. When he's 100 percent and in the lineup, he's nearly unstoppable and clearly one of the best receivers in the game." Bennett's analysis is spot on. Floyd is arguably the most talented receiver in the country, though he's had trouble staying healthy the last two seasons.
"Unfortunately, we would have liked to play Notre Dame in 2013," Army athletic director Kevin Anderson said on Thursday. "But Notre Dame has found that it's not going to work for them." In a week where any kernel of information could be a sign of bigger things to come, the timing of this news is certainly interesting. I'll let you draw your own wild conclusions.
Notre Dame tight end Mike Ragone plead not guilty to possession of marijuana charges in court on Monday. However, the South Bend Tribune states that he could still face suspension from Notre Dame's Office of Residence Life making his return this fall "all the more unlikely." If Ragone is suspended, Kyle Rudolph will have to shoulder even more of the workload.
The Associated Press is reporting that Notre Dame and Miami are expected to resume their series after about a twenty-year hiatus, with the first of three games to be played at Solider Field in 2012. It seems like forever since those legendary tilts featuring Jimmy Johnson vs. Lou Holtz, and as the linked article states those times are certainly in the rearview mirror. But this is one in Chitown is going to be a whole lot of fun.
Notre Dame tight end Mike Ragone was arrested and charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession Saturday morning. Ragone was expected play a more significant role in coach Brian Kelly's pass-friendly offense. No word on Ragone's punishment.
While Notre Dame has been staunchly against giving up their independence in football, athletic director Jack Swarbrick says Big Ten expansion could create changes in major college football that force them to review this stance. This would be a major shift in philosophy for the Irish, who have been able to garner huge television deals on their own. The two obvious choices for Notre Dame would be the Big Ten where they have geographic and rivalry ties, or the Big East, where they currently play hoops.
"The defense is going to do what the defense is going to do. If we score fast and it's three and out and then we get the ball, hopefully we can score fast again. That's the idea," new Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly said. Don't look for Kelly to deviate too much from the up-tempo offenses that have made him a success at Central Michigan and Cincinnati.
Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd and "6 to 10" other people were involved in a fight at a house party in Minneapolis on Jan. 8. Floyd was cited for underage drinking. Not exactly the way coach Brian Kelly wanted to start off his coaching tenure. There is not word from Kelly on Floyd's punishment.
Former Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen is expected to have surgery to repair torn ligaments in his right big toe, requiring two to three months to heal. Clausen will likely miss most, if not all of the NFL Combine in February and schedule a private workout for NFL scouts in April.
Notre Dame's Golden Tate won the Biletnikoff Award as the nation's top wide receiver. Tate beat out finalists Freddie Barnes from Bowling Green and Jordan Shipely from Texas. Tate has had two phenomenal years with back-to-back seasons of double digit touchdowns and over 1000 receiving yards. Tate, a junior, has already declared for the 2010 NFL Draft.
Notre Dame junior wide receiver Golden Tate has decided to declare for the 2010 NFL Draft. Tate's departure does not come as a shock, especially given recent events. Over the last two years Tate has proven to be one of college football's top playmakers.
No surprise as Notre Dame junior quarterback Jimmy Clausen has decided to forgo his senior season and make himself available for the 2010 NFL Draft. Clausen's press conference at The College Football Hall of Fame to announce he was attending Notre Dame seems 10, not nearly three years ago. And while it's fair to say his collegiate career didn't produce anywhere near the wins that Irish fans anticipated, the former #1 QB recruit in the nation did improve considerably during his three years as starter.
Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbick says the 6-6 Irish will likely decline any bowl invitation. "I agree (no bowl) is the likely outcome, but we are reconvening the leadership counsel to make a final decision," athletic director Swarbrick told the Chicago Tribune. Sure your season didn't go as planned. Sure you canned your coach. Sure your starting quarterback and one of your top wide receivers are likely to jump to the NFL. But... canceling your bowl game sends a bad message. Notre Dame fans must be appalled if this is the case. This is not like the situation of a few years ago when South Carolina and Clemson declined bowl bids following an on-the-field fight that probably warranted such a measure. On the positive side, the players at UCLA are eager to play some football.
Various sources are reporting that Notre Dame has contacted UConn head coach Randy Edsall about their vacant coaching position. As the Chicago Sun-Times states, Edsall doesn't have the same wow factor as Bob Stoops, Urban Meyer and even Brian Kelly, but would a good fit for the Irish. Edsall has done an excellent job building the UConn program over the last 11 years.
Notre Dame wide receiver Golden Tate is expected to meet with former Irish coach Charlie Wes on Friday regarding whether he will return for his senior year or enter the NFL Draft. Tate says two big factors will be whether or not quarterback Jimmy Clausen returns and who the next Irish coach will be.
Something tells me Tate has pretty much already made his decision. Especially after his performance against Stanford last weekend.
Notre Dame players are expected to vote on Monday on whether or not they want to play in a bowl game. I hate to pile on Notre Dame while they are down, but are you serious? Any player that puts a 'no' vote down has to be seriously questioned. Your season was a disappointment, sack up, get over it and go do what you came to Notre Dame to do...play football.
Notre Dame has fired coach Charlie Weis, according to the New York Daily News. It was only a matter of time. Weis finishes his five years at Notre Dame with a 35-27 record, not much better than the "6-5" record he said was unacceptable when hired. It doesn't seem like Weis will struggle to get an assistant job in the NFL, although he doesn't exactly need the money. Jimmy Clausen and Golden Tate seem likely to enter the NFL Draft now.
Despite recent rumors, Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops says he does not have an interview set up with Notre Dame.
Notre Dame has yet to make a decision on the status of Charlie Weis, at least not officially. Stoops, Urban Meyer and Brian Kelly are all names that have been thrown around as potential candidates for the Irish gig. Of them, Kelly seems like the only one that has a remote chance of happening. The rest seem to be figments of imaginations for Irish faithful and media members.
Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen threw for 340 yards and five touchdowns, but it wasn't enough as the Irish fell once again. Notre Dame has been a fantasy gold mine all year. With Clausen expected to go pro, that well could dry up quite a bit in 2010.
Notre Dame wide receiver Golden Tate had 201 yards receiving and three touchdowns in the loss to Stanford. Another Notre Dame offensive star who has an NFL decision to make, Tate has gone over the 100-yard mark four games in a row, and has exceeded 200 yards twice. He has scored at least one touchdown in eight consecutive games and has 17 total scores on the season. Solid.
Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd caught 6 passes for 85 yards and two touchdowns in the loss to Stanford. If Jimmy Clausen and Golden Tate both bolt for the NFL, and with the likely dismissal of Charlie Weis looming, what is in store for Floyd in 2010?
Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick says that quarterback Jimmy Clausen was "the victim of a sucker punch" at a South Bend bar early Sunday morning. Clausen, his girlfriend and his family were enjoying a midnight snack at C.J.'s Pub, except it was 2:00 a.m. No word on the junior's status for Saturday.
Notre Dame running back Armando Allen is doubtful against Stanford with a broken bone in his right hand.
Allen has had a rough year, suffering from a list of injuries since week three against Michigan State. Robert Hughes will be called upon to carry a majority of the load.
WGN 720 is reporting that Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen was involved in a fight outside a Notre Dame bar early Sunday morning, and he may have been given two black eyes as a capper to a pretty rough day. Normally we don't deal in rumors such as this, but it's hard to doubt a WGN report; after all this is the organization that allowed the nation to enjoy Harry Caray. This Irish are preparing to face Stanford this weekend, and this development could certainly have a huge impact on the contest.
Notre Dame wide receivers Michael Floyd and Golden Tate both went over 100 yards with a touchdown, but it wasn't enough as the Irish lost to Connecticut. If you don't care about the Charlie Weis watch, I suggest not watching ESPN all week. He's probably gone, but I guess it's not over until the portly coach sings.
"Oh no, I don't think that any decision's been made because I probably would know, and I don't know," Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis said Tuesday about the possibility that he could be fired. Unfortunately for Charlie, the guy that gets fired is usually the last to know. Weis has been on the hot seat after dropping the last two games.
With Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis seemingly hanging on by a thread, expect some big names to be tossed around the rumor mill. This week the possible candidates include Oklahoma's Bob Stoops and Iowa's Kirk Ferentz. Last week it was Cincinnati's Brian Kelly. At no other time during the year do more "sources" come out of the woodwork with their "inside info" than late November when the axes start to fall. But it's fun, it makes million dollar coaches squirm and internet message boards light up like a Christmas tree.
Golden Tate caught 9 passes for 113 yards and a touchdown while returning a punt 87 yards for a score in the loss to Pittsburgh. This is nothing new as Tate has produced these types of numbers nearly all season. For the year, Tate has 1,172 yards receiving with 13 combined touchdowns, and he still has two games to play. No word on how many games Charlie Weis has left, however.
Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis says that running back Armando Allen (ankle) will start this week against Pittsburgh. Allen has missed the last two games will likely share time with Robert Hughes
Notre Dame wide receiver Golden Tate says he is not thinking about the NFL, only finishing out his season with the Irish. "Right now, I try to think about the team and this season," Tate said. "I'm sure (coach Charlie Weis) and I and my family will address this when the time is appropriate. Right now, I'm playing for Notre Dame." This is a pretty standard response from players this time of year. Tate will be one of the many players we highlight in an upcoming early entry piece.
Notre Dame wide receiver Golden Tate was not fazed by the return of Michael Floyd, catching nine passes for 132 yards and a touchdown. Both of them are must starts the rest of the way. Tate has at least one touchdown in five consecutive games.
Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen threw for 452 yards and two touchdowns in the loss to Navy. Notre Dame may not be very good on the defensive side of the ball, but they are an offensive machine. There isn't a fantasy trio in the nation better than Clausen, Golden Tate, and Michael Floyd.
Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd played as if he never left, catching 10 balls for 141 yards and a touchdown in a loss to Navy. Floyd will provide you with a nice boost for the playoffs going forward; he looked good.
Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis said that Michael Floyd "looks very spry" and will play "plenty" this week against Navy. Earlier in the Weis indicated that they would ease Floyd back into the rotation. Keep in mind they have Pittsburgh the following week. Floyd is a bit of a crap shoot this week.
Notre Dame running back Armando Allen is day-to-day with a sprained ankle. Allen has been bothered by the ankle injury since tweaking it late in Week Three against Michigan State. Allen has missed two games due to the injury (Purdue and Washington State).
Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd has been cleared to play Saturday against Navy. Good news for Floyd owners, potential cut in stats for Golden Tate owners.
Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen (turf toe) left Saturday's win over Washington State early, though coach Charlie Weis said his junior quarterback could have returned to action if he was needed. Clausen's toe will cause him problems all season, though he's made it clear that he expects to play through the pain.
Notre Dame wide receiver Golden Tate had 80 yards receiving and 61 rushing with two combined touchdowns in the win over Washington State on Saturday. With reports that Michael Floyd may be ready to play next week, it will be interesting to see how that affects Tate's dominance since Floyd was injured.
Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd will have a CAT scan on his collarbone next Monday or Tuesday to determine if he can return on Nov. 7 against Navy. Navy has been the target date for Floyd's return for a few weeks now, but we'll have to wait until next week to know if he will be cleared.
Notre Dame wide receiver Golden Tate caught 11 passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns in the Irish win over Boston College. Check Tate's last three games: 28 receptions, 489 yards and five touchdowns. He has Washington State next week, so this should continue.
Notre Dame wide receiver Robby Parris (lower body injuries) has been upgraded from doubtful to questionable for Saturday's game against Boston College. There's optimism that Parris will be good to go on Saturday, though he's a risky start as the passing offense runs through Golden Tate and Kyle Rudolph almost exclusively of late.
Notre Dame wide receiver Robby Parris (hip) is listed as doubtful for this Saturday's game with Boston College. Though Parris tells The Boston Herald that he expects to play. Parris has emerged as an Irish receiving threat in Michael Floyd's absence, though he's a risky start this week.
Notre Dame wide receiver Golden Tate caught eight balls for 117 yards and two touchdowns in a loss to USC. Not quite as impressive as his 244 yard effort his last time out, but he continues to pick up the slack in the absence of Michael Floyd.
Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd may not be done for the season after all. According to ESPN, Charlie Weis said Floyd is ahead of schedule and could return in November. Interesting turn of events. If you have room, stash him away for the playoffs.
Notre Dame wide receiver Golden Tate caught nine passes for 244 yards in the Irish win over Washington. Tate appears to be adjusting to the loss of fellow wide out Michael Floyd just fine.
Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen threw for 422 yards and two touchdowns Saturday afternoon against Washington. His isn't 100 percent, but Clausen at 90 percent is still pretty darn good. Keep playing him.
Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen (turf toe) told The Chicago Tribune that he doesn't expect to return to 100% until after the season. Clausen sounds fully ready to play through the discomfort, though fantasy owners will certainly want to monitor his mobility as the season continues.
Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis said that running back Armando Allen (ankle) and quarterback Jimmy Clausen (toe) will be "ready to go" this weekend against Washington. Clausen played sporadically against Purdue while Allen sat out last weekend. Each appears to be a solid start with the Huskies visiting South Bend.
Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis says that quarterback Jimmy Clausen's toe looks much better now than it did at the same time last week.
Clausen missed most of the second half against Purdue, but he should be healthier against Washington this Saturday.
Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen split time with Dayne Crist against Purdue due to lingering effects from his turf toe injury. Clausen saved the Irish late in the game on a touchdown pass to tight end Kyle Rudolph, but it was his only scoring throw of the evening.
With running back Armando Allen out due to injury, wide receiver Golden Tate filled in all over the field. Tate took nine carries for 55 yards and a score out of the backfield, while catching another five balls for 57 yards.
Notre Dame running back Armando Allen did not play against Purdue, resting his sprained ankle. Robert Hughes and wide receiver Golden Tate filled in most of the night in the Irish backfield. Check back later this week for more on Allen's status.
Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis said that a decision on the status of running back Armando Allen (ankle) will be made around game-time on Saturday. Weis went on to tell The Chicago Tribune that Allen "may not play as much as he normally would play. It might turn into a 10, 15-carry game instead of a 25-carry game." With the Irish playing a late game on Saturday, fantasy owners will not be able to wait until the last minute to decide on Allen, thus we urge going in another direction this week.
Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis said that starting quarterback Jimmy Clausen (turf toe) "looked sharp. He looked like he's ready to go." With the injury uncertainty now surrounding the Irish, it seems very likely that Jimmy Clausen will be on the field Saturday night in West Lafayette.
Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen missed Tuesday's practice because of turf toe in his right foot, but expects to play on Saturday. "The goal is to play -- that's the plan," Clausen said. "I'm going to practice [Wednesday] and more [Thursday] and hopefully I'll be ready to go for Saturday." With Clausen's plant foot not being 100 percent and without Michael Floyd (broken collarbone) in the lineup, we expect Notre Dame to try to slow the game down a bit this week.
Notre Dame conducted practice on Tuesday without two of its offensive stars. Jimmy Clausen (turf toe) and Armando Allen (ankle sprain) both stood on the sidelines, though Charlie Weis said he expects both to play against Purdue Saturday night. Combine these injury woes with the loss of top wide receiver Michael Floyd and the Irish offensive starters become a little riskier to start this weekend. We'll have to monitor the progress of Clausen and Allen.
An MRI conducted on Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen's right foot revealed nothing more than turf toe. Jimmy battled through the injury last week and we expect him do the same this week against Purdue. However, with Michael Floyd out and Clausen having a bad plant foot, running back Armando Allen could see more work this week.
Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen was expected to have x-rays on his foot on Sunday, but the results are not yet known. Coach Charlie Weis believes the injury to be a turf toe or a sprain in the arch of his foot. Clausen hobbled his way through the second half in the win over Michigan State last Saturday. Barring something major showing up on the x-ray, he should play against Purdue.
Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis said that star wide receiver Michael Floyd (broken clavicle) was to undergo surgery today, and it's expected that he'll miss the regular season. Weis thinks that Floyd could return for an Irish bowl game. This is a very unfortunate blow for Floyd and the Irish as the wide-open, downfield attack has been emerging as one of the best in college football.
Notre Dame WR Golden Tate saved the day catching a 33 yard TD pass from Jimmy Clausen with 5:18 to go in the game as ND held on to beat Michigan State 33-30. Tate finished with 7 receptions for 127 yards and a TD, but Michael Floyd went down with a broken collarbone to make it bittersweet. We won't be seeing Floyd on the field quite possibly until the end of the season if at all. More news on this as the week progresses.
Notre Dame running back Armando Allen carried 23 times for 115 yards and a touchdown against Michigan State, making this the second week in a row Allen has passed the century mark. Allen now has 326 yards rushing for the season and has scored in all three games for Notre Dame.
NBC is reporting that Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd has suffered a broken collarbone.
ÿ While there has been no indication how long Floyd will be out, you can probably expect him to miss 6-8 weeks.
Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis said that wide receiver Michael Floyd is just fine after cutting his leg late in the Michigan game last week. Floyd is expected to be at full speed against Michigan State on Saturday. The Spartans have the unenviable task of trying to once again defend two talented wide outs. This week it is Floyd and Golden Tate. Given the results from Central Michigan's Antonio Brown and Bryan Anderson, you'll want to start the two Golden Domers this week.
Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis said that running back Armando Allen will "be just fine" when the Irish face off against Michigan State on Saturday. Allen injured his thigh last week against Michigan.
The Irish running game has been a pleasant surprise this year and Allen has over 200 yards and two scores in two games. The injury could slow him down a little, but he's still a decent second or third starter this week.
Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd, who left the Michigan game in the fourth quarter with a leg injury, told The Chicago Tribune he was fine, saying "Just banged up my knee a little bit. It was just a slight little cut, and I'll be good to go next week and in practice." Floyd went on to tell The Tribune that the decision to return was up to him, and he "didn't want to force it too much." Look for Floyd to start against Michigan State next Saturday.
Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen threw for 336 and three scores in the loss to Michigan. Clausen is moving into the tier of top national fantasy quarterbacks, and he'll remain there for as long as Charlie Weis is willing to let him drop back and chuck it deep down the sideline with such frequency.
Notre Dame running back Armando Allen ran for 139 yards and a touchdown in the loss at Michigan. Allen's owners should be pleased with the holes opened by the offensive line, as the Irish were able to move the ball very well on the ground, something that wasn't the case in 2008. He did get his bell rung at the end of the game, so watch for Monday's injury report.
Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd came down hard in the back of the end zone and appeared to injury his leg.
Floyd was taken to the locker room and has since returned to the sideline. But he did not return to the game.
Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis reported that fullback James Aldridge will miss this Saturday's game in Ann Arbor with a sprained right shoulder, and his chances to play against the Spartans in two weeks aren't very good either. Robert Hughes will replace Aldridge as the prime blocking back, though we don't expect too many carries for Hughes.
